it could be good for the sport, but I don't see how watching 10 pins/techs is fun for the fans, even if you're a fan of PSU..

Meanwhile in another thread you just said,

Add something to the conversation, or just refrain from commenting at all. They were two horribly boring duals for two completely different reasons. PSU vs MSU was a shutout before it began, and tOSU vs Rutgers ended up being a staring contest of who could do less and win a match. Go ahead, defend the buckeyes and their 4 takedowns outside of Mendez.

The season is like many others.

Penn State fans are happy and watching to see how far and how excellent the program can get

Oklahoma State fans are very excited as they have a brand new energy in their program.

Iowa will again draw the most fans, and they have some top notch guys. And the twins gonna scream and jump up and down which is entertaining as always.

And fans of all the other programs have their individual storylines and the race to see who can put pressure on Penn State.

And Nebraska might even be leading PSU at intermission this Friday night causing some fans to believe PSU is vulnerable.

I feel as though there is a lot to like this year

On top of all what everyone's said.. the way it's increasingly becoming so top heavy (for all the reasons). Makes it more boring..

when the same 3-4 schools just buy their titles. It makes the things that people love about wrestling, especially people/teams improving, showing what hard work can accomplish.. seem irrelevant.

How is this different from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s? I recall it was Okie State and Okie for a while, then add in Iowa and ISU. Wasn't it basically 3 or 4 schools back then too?

It was OSU, ISU and OU in that order and yes OU won a couple/7 team titles.  Generally no one outside the top 5 was beating a top 3 team in a dual.  No one talked about "top 10" teams.

And before all of them it was A&M.  Shame the Aggies fell off the cliff after '56.  Would be fun to head down to a dual in College Station.

I'm aware. But it's becoming immeasurably worse. Saying it hasn't is just pure ignorance

You're just yapping out both sides of your suck.

Carry on...

Another snarky one liner without making a point. Do you ever actually say anything interesting?

Maybe you need it spelled out for you.

I do not care about the team score in a dual. The winner of the dual means absolutely nothing in college wrestling. If tOSU lost to Rutgers, what implications does that have on their season? None. I tune in to duals because I want to see good match-ups and good wrestling. PSU pinning and teching a vastly inferior team is not entertaining to me. Likewise, watching a dual where over 90% of the airtime is two guys staring at each other in neutral is not entertaining.

OK State vs NC State, despite the matches going 9-1 in OSU's favor was far more entertaining than either of the aforementioned duals, because there was actually wrestling taking place. Not a staring contest, and not a mismatched pin-fest.

Again, how so? It has been 3 or 4 schools for 65 years.

Could those 3 or4 schools steal the mid tier teams kids by offering them $20,000 to transfer?.. on the floor at NCAAs.

Did mid tier programs that developed that walk on into an AA.. have to spend their time stressing about someone swooping in and "now" wanting that kid? So instead of being able to celebrate program milestones and build on them.. they now just have to worry about getting outbid..

Again, acting like the gap hasn't gotten bigger is lying or being deliberately obtuse

The result from a team race standpoint is the same. Three or four schools dominate.

I will agree that smaller schools are losing guys to bigger more monied programs. Nil is here to stay

But it’s also much easier than it used to be for guys who can’t start at those 3 or 4 schools to transfer to the mid tier teams

Again, acting like the gap hasn't gotten bigger and is contributing to making it less interesting to watch.. is just burying your head in the sand

Can you provide some data on this gap that has supposedly widened?

The only gap I see widening is the one between Penn State and everyone else, and apparently they’re not even offering guys the most money (although I’m sure they’re probably in the top 3 or so).  So if anything that proves it is winning that attracts the most guys and not necessarily money.

Last year 2nd and 8th place was separated by 10.5 points and it could be similar this year.  So if anything there might be more schools in the running for a team trophy than there have been in the past.
