I am watching the semis and there is nobody there. Why don't they have the tournament in a venue where fans care?

After graduating from Michigan, Churella served as the head wrestling coach at UNLV from 1979 to 1984. While holding that position, Churella established the Las Vegas Collegiate Invitational Tournament, later renamed the Cliff Keen Invitational.

I moved to Vegas nearly 20 years ago.  I used to take PTO Friday afternoon, but it only makes sense to head over for the QF Friday night and maybe the SF session Saturday morning.  I find it much more convenient to catch the SF and Finals on Flo, particularly since Flo allows me to view multiple matches simultaneously.

The Churella family still runs the tournament.  When I took my son to the finals about 4-5 years ago, old man Churella (Mark Sr's dad) was collecting money at the door.

That's a more diplomatic explanation than the truth - some coaches (and wrestlers) just need a stripper and coke fix before the holiday grind

Yes I have, multiple times. What's your point? I found the stands to be mostly full Saturday morning.

Haha... I don't know which ones you have gone to, but the ones I have been to up until Tulsa two years ago, the first session on Saturday morning is about 1/4 full and the least attended session.... that's my point.

If no one attends, move the tournament.

1) can you name a regular season tournament that's well attended?

2) not every college event has to be midwest/northeast

3) have you considered that part of its success is that the teams love going there

4) Vegas is awesome. if you're going to travel to a monster regular season event, why not Vegas?

out of curiosity, when is the last time you traveled to a college wrestling tournament?

The last NCAA before the pandemic. Here are my responses:

1) can you name a regular season tournament that's well attended? The Southern Scuffle has always been well attended.

2) not every college event has to be midwest/northeast. True. But there are other areas where a better attendance would be realized.

3) have you considered that part of its success is that the teams love going there. What success? No one was there!

4) Vegas is awesome. if you're going to travel to a monster regular season event, why not Vegas? Some people like Vegas, and maybe the wrestlers like walking through the casinos and staring at the dangerous women. But is that more important than big crowds watching and cheering?

The Cougar Clash is definitely trying to cash in on the dangerous women theme.

You’d think the tournament organizers could at least pull a page from the casino playbook and just give out free tickets so it doesn’t look so empty

Hope they don't drug test there.  I got a contact high just walking down the strip.

If only all the Kennies and Penn St knew Vegas was more fun than dodge ball then the place would be packed.
