I would say yes. It is estimated that there is over ! trillion dollars of Waste and fraud in the federal government right now. I'm not sure if that includes the billions of dollars of redundancy in many of the programs. I believe there is quite a bit of federal overlap with State and local programs also. A little reform wouldn't hurt.

Expand

We spend too much time getting or trying to get folks to pay more taxes…. As opposed to cutting waste.  the rich pay what… 50% of the counties income tax.

The fear on the left imho is some of their useless programs will be gone.

Useless career bureaucrats being out of work is also a good thing.   Get in the private sector…..

the problem is they won’t go far enough.  I counted 22 city workers outside my house the other day when they were pouring concrete…….  20 of them were standing around with their D in their hands doing nothing for hours.   Go after the local unions and pensions that are bankrupting cities next…..   stop sending illegal alien funding to sanctuary cities.  Cut them off too.

doesn't stand to be able to wildly enrich themselves from within the government.

While we are on it maybe we can come up with some law that prevents government officials from becoming rich while in office by ways of lobbyist kickbacks, insider trading, etc. At the very lest tighten up the STOCK ACT.

Martha Stewart went to prison for insider trading yet Nancy Pelosi and others just continue to play the system in their favor.

I have already said, multiple times, the issue is with who he's tapping and the method of execution.  There is already an office whose role it is to do these things, he could add muscle and teeth to their operation, but instead he has to do the big, showy, and inherently inefficient thing of creating a whole new office.

Expand

So how has the office that already exists been doing?  Apparently not very well as we are trillions in debt.   Maybe a new approach is needed as they seem ineffective.   See what I did there?   Called them ineffective while Musk is looking for inefficiencies?  Your newly found awesome department might be at the top of the list.

why are Elon and Vivek 'conflicted' ?

You can take the quote marks off of conflicted. It is a long, high dollar list:

Tesla is the largest beneficiary of zero-emission credits from the government that they turn around and sell to other manufacturers for billions (you can see this in Tesla earnings). Note: Weren't you against EVs?

Tesla's Gigafactory in Nevada received $330mm in tax credits. What are the odds he will determine a tax credit for one his projects is not efficient?

SpaceX has a $2.89 billion contract to develop a lunar lander. Is there any chance that putting people on the moon will be deemed redundant by Musk? Do we need people on the moon? What if it costs $3 billion?

SpaceX, Blue Origin, and United Launch Alliance all compete for government contracts. What are the chances a Blue Origin contract proposal will be deemed less competitive? What happens if Musk is allowed to see a Blue Origin or United Launch Alliance contract? Is that anti-competitive behavior?

In total SpaceX has gotten in excess of $19 billion in contracts. Who will decide if those are efficient? Do we expect Musk to tell us when he padded the contract too much?

Musk has often broken securities laws which sometimes lands him in trouble with the SEC. Will he decide the SEC is inefficient and move to cut funding? What about other agencies that regulate his companies?

Which your administration played politics and wasn’t a fan of….. But whatever.  Scary business man gonna cut some government programs…….

There is no evidence he will do what you’re afraid of.   Fear leads to anger….. don’t be afraid.

The point of conflicts is to avoid them, not to wait until there is evidence that what was knowable before hand actually occurred.

I really haven’t read any other posts here besides yours and trips and wkn’s tbh.  But that’s reality imo.

again this perfect human who is also qualified to cut gov spending is a utopian goal.  To get to that level that he is at …. One must have conflict.

I literally pulled two people much more qualified just off the top of my head.  It's not utopian.

He can't increase space x funding etc.   He can only find them not inefficient and leave them alone.   Congress has the purse strings.   You guys are all Chicken Littles running around saying the sky is falling or gonna fall if Musk is able to identify wasteful and inefficient spending but saves his own funding.   I'd say that not a bad bargain.   The money will be spent if he does nothing.   The money might be saved if he does something.   Objectively, which is better?
