Vito is on the verge of being TF by Ono...

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Somebody pack some lead weights into Ono's singlet!

He loses 4-6 😞

Really hope the Iranian wins, pulls JB back in, and we get to see him leave his shoes on the mat after taking bronze.

It's a tall order though.  The Iranian is excellent (top 3 at worlds his last 2 appearances) but the Georgian guy he has in the semis has two techs, including one over Takahashi, the Japanese wrestler who just won U23s (beating Mesenbrink along the way) and beating Rassadin at Asians before that.

Wow, Ono is insane right now. The fact that he has that head pinch throw in his arsenal with all his other offense is just not fair.

Taylor won his first world title at 28 and Burroughs won a title at 34. I'd say there is some time left on the clock in the ultimate match against Father Time, though he is more cruel at the light weights. Luckily Vito has the length to grow into 65 for the next quad.

Both significantly heavier than Vito.  The lighter guys tend to have shorter careers on top in most combat sports.  That factors in as well.  Look at Vito's injury history as of late... further compounding things.

Kentchadze is a monster will be a great match Takahashi did wrestle 74kg less than a week ago though and looked super small comparatively he also has a bum wheel so Im taking that match with a grain of salt.

Thats the best 20 year old to ever grace a wrestling mat.

Maybe... but Turkey had a 17 year old World Champ in 93 in Hamza Yeriklaya.  Hamza went on to win two Olympics.  I bet he was pretty good at 20 if he won at 17.  (Also was 82 kg at 17, where he was wrestling full grown men)

Blaze losing to Ono 7-2 is looking like one of the more impressive losses out there when you factor in him teching everyone else at u20's beating uguev 10-2 and Vito 12-0

That is absolutely insane was it definitive he was not age cheating? Im always concerned with Russia,Turkey,Iran in that regard but thats partially because they grow beards at 11 and I did not get my first whisker until I was 19.

Vito isn't that young! He is 25.  Does he have another entire cycle of him being the US rep left in him?

It's a fair question. How many of the 2024 Olympic/World reps do we think make it through the 2028 Olympic cycle?

SR Rep/U20 rep

57KG - Lee (26) / Lilledahl

61KG - Vito (25) / Blaze

65KG - Zain (29) / Bassett

70KG - Green (31) / Duke

74KG - Dake (33) / Lockett

79KG - JB (36) / Ryder

86KG - Brooks (24) / Barr

92KG - Taylor (33) / Mirasola

97KG - Snyder (28) / Rademacher

125KG - Parris (25) / Kueter

Certainly other contenders amongst those weights who weren't U20 team members. Guys like Mendez, Mesenbrink, Shapiro, etc.

When I was in 5th grade, my next door neighbor (just under 4months older than I) was already shaving!

(I didn't regularly shaved until my sophomore year in HS... And that was every OTHER day!)

We are about to find out how special the JB era was. Sparking the the US in 2011 and performing at a high level for almost 10 years. And then the 4-5 other studs that came in and lasted almost two cycles.  Here's to hoping we find another spark.

The "age cheating" thing, I'm not sure about... but he did have a fairly long career winning his last world medal (bronze) in '06, before retiring with neck issues in 2007.  So a 13-14 year long career, regardless.

FILA named him the third greatest wrestler of all time.  I'm guessing Karelin and Medved the top two?
