I was glad to see Davino control Gonzales, Bouzakis needs to step up or he may lose his spot.

True frehman E'than Birden lost 1-1 to returning starter Hepner at 165. Birden solid D needs to work on some offense during his RS year.

I haven't seen the match, but he got out from bottom on Hepner, who is very stingy on top. I love Birden's upside going forward, looking forward to his 5 appearances.

So what happens to Gilcher? Either he starves back to 157 (unlikely based on what I've heard) or bumps up to 174 where they already have a formidable Rogotzke?

Is the McCallister over Seltzer results a surprise for Mizzou fans?

I was high on both Hepner and Geog, especially Geog. I hope they can get it going, cause they are the best that OSU has at the weight.

Bouzakis is gonna be what he is. I don't believe he has a high ceiling. I do believe he AA's this season...

Any chance we see Davino?

No not really. It was a wild match. McCallister was a top 100 recruit and former super 32 and fargo placer. He was like 170-2 in high school. I was surprised he lost to Gioffre 9-6 in SV. So it makes me think the three of them go back and forth.

It was for me.   I thought Seltzer might have worked his way into a starting slot this year.  On the other hand, great to see McCallister do so well last night.

While we didn't see all the expected starters and we didn't see all the other promising new guys to the program, from last night's matches it looks like 149 is the only weight class that might have an unexpected starter this year.   Anyone see any other changes to the likely starting line-up?

PS.  Love the rule allowing redshirts to compete in a handful of matches without losing a year of eligibility.  Gives the newer guys some added experience and allows starters to rest or recover when needed.  Looking forward to seeing some of the new guys compete.

I was expecting a much closer match between Walker and Mauger.  Mack needs to put on some size while Walker is cutting down, but I expected a closer match. Two good young guys in the fold.

Minnesota doesn't do official wrestle-offs, but the open practice yesterday gave some indications. Salazar seems to have the edge over Nelson and Nagel at 197, who both would be solid starters.  Brandon Morvari and Cooper Flynn were very close at 125, but neither opened up much so hard to say for sure.  Bennett Tabor has put on good weight at Hwt, and I think will jump up significantly in the rankings. Max McEnelly is going to be a problem for a lot of 184 pounders.  Tommy Askey, Andrew Sparks, Drew Roberts, Vance Vombaur, and Clayton Whiting also looked in great shape and favorites to start at their perspective weights.  Tyler Wells at 133 did not participate yesterday.

Seltzer needs to come home to Purdue....

Speaking of Purdue, where was Rowley for wrestle-offs? I was surprised to see Quintero up at 133. I thought he was a 25 lifer.

Stanford “wrestled off” most of their young guys today. Aden Valencia dominated Jack Consiglio 13-3.

Do you have other results?

Speaking of Stanford...tough schedule.

Is Valencia expected to start over Miranda? He is definitely the best option for Stanford but I could see them wanting to have him take a full redshirt year
