First round, Ghasempour vs Finesilver.    Would anyone believe it if this happened?

They call him finesi_ver because Ghasempour would be forfeiting that L

Iran is pretty weak in the lighter weights. Nokhodi and Ghasempour probably will get medals below gold.

For 61 and 70, I can't expect Momeni and Khalili anywhere near medal bouts. There's probably about 10 wrestlers in each category better than said wrestlers.

Nokhodi -- probably the 2nd best wrestler if you just go down the entry list.

At 92, it's a bit of a jump ball between the big 3, but I think Ghasempour is maybe half a step behind Taylor and Sadulaev. So it's likely a medal unless all favorites draw the same side.

Let's say 1 silver, 1 bronze, draw dependent.

Who do you see as the top 79 Kg wrestler?

Well, JB certainly would be in the conversation as one if the GOATs

I am just not sure that he is still the top guy in 79.

I like and respect him, I hope he goes out on top

So then you want him to win 86 in 2028!

Magomaev is probably the on-paper favorite with youth on his side. JB is either 2-0 or 3-0 against Nohkodi I believe the only Iranian he's ever lost to is Savadkhoui. Kentchadze on his best day can probably beat anyone. As for me JB is still my pick for the weight but if any of Nohkodi,JB,Magomaev won it all I would not be surprised in the least.

I think one thing that a lot of people haven't really considered (recently), is that 79 KG is the old 74 KG and he (JB) is better suited for 79 KG.  A case in point is that when he weighed in at 180 (?) to wrestle David Taylor, who won Worlds that year and for many years after), and lost on criteria 4-4.  That, to me, helps prove that dropping below 79 KG is not ideal.

We haven't seen him against Dake at 79 KG, either, and Dake could very well be better at 79 KG - they just both want(ed) to be the best 74 KG guy on the planet because that was the Olympic weight.

Yea we'll see how JB fares this time at 79, but he hasn't lost there that much internationally, except for that one criteria loss to Savadkouhi and that was off-season basically.

Marsteller was and is a bad matchup but he adjusted.

I agree with most points above and that Magomaev, Kentchadze (for whom, 79 is actually a really great weight), Nohodi, they are all medal favs. I just think JB has that extra touch that these great wrestlers don't.. Even at 36 years old

Never argue with an idiot. They will only bring you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Even if he's healthy I think he will have his hands full against Azarpira - that kid is legit.

Azarpira also went under the knife after the Olympics.  So did Nokhodi after the recent world championship

Iran and Russia will have their dual match in Moscow

GR  will be on Nov 22, and FS will be on Nov 23.

The Iran FS is a bit depleted due to injuries, and only Amouzad, Ghassempour and Zare will be there from the A team

You can read the list of the competitors from both teams, Here, with some help from Google Translate

Hope he recovers well - he is young and was very impressive in Paris.  He was very competitive with Taz and I thought we could be seeing the beginnings of a rivalry.  What did he have to have fixed?

Iran and Russia tied 5-5 in their dual match.  Russia won the first 5 weights, and Iran won the 5 heavy weights

Note that Ghassempour wrestled at 86.  I think the rumors are true, he will wrestle 86 from now on, and if Hassan Yazdani comes back from his injury, he will move up to 92 and later 97

How do the Iranian fans feel about the bump? I wonder if Yazdani is a better fit at 86 if for no other reason than his gas tank at 97.

i cannot speak for all iranian fans, but as for me, I like the move.  I think he has to cut too much at 86 and it impacts his cardio.  This is all assuming he can come back from two shoulder surgeries
