Bias Game

I notice my own internal bias' sometimes so why not list em.

1) I think its gross when michigan buys a whole team its gross but it doesn't really bother me when Iowa does it. This is likely because Iowa gets treated like scum by some people on here regardless so i feel like "why not".

2) Don't mind Rivera getting exported to puerto rico, again when michigan does it I get annoyed. My rationalization for this one is that their rent-a-team completely laid down in the dual with PSU. So in the back of my mind I'm thinking something like "if you are gonna steal em at least coach em".

3) I'll credit @MPhillips and point out that when I see tOSU screw up a mat return my brain always assumes its a systemic problem and not a by product of wrestling being hard (though I'm sort of right about that)

Sure, I'll play.  I'm kind of disgusted at Iowa/Brands by seeing Iowa guys who dedicated their careers to the Hawks, like Glazier and Kennedy, get run out of town for the short-term benefit of one-year-wonders like Buchanon and Teemer.  I'm all for competition, but isn't there a point at which a coach should be like, "Hey thanks but we have our guy?"

I can't decide if I'm being fair in my disgust or if I just don't like Iowa.  I'm fine with transfers, but usually when we see it, the guy getting displaced has another weight he can go, or can use a redshirt, or will just lose a year, or wasn't any good.  Or the guy coming in has a ton of eligibility, so it's more like a new recruit than a hired guy.

Until now the worst example was probably Beard/Dean, but even that didn't annoy me as much, because Beard was just a freshman while Glazier/Kennedy invested their whole career, only to get shown the door at the end. Especially Glazier:  after a 20-4 year, it's his last year of eligibility and he can only go 197, and he's booted out for a guy coming in who also only has a single year of eligibility? Really? No loyalty at all?

So is it my bias, or are Iowa's efforts (esp. Glazier) a new low in selling out your homegrown guys?

I am biased toward:

1. Bravery and courage, regardless of result.  think of Rivera at Northwestern bumping up to 133 to face number 1 Stephan Micic.  He lost the match, but won a fan.

2. Those who don't take a redshirt

3. Underdogs

4. Guys who were recruited over

5. Aggressive wrestling style with high attack rate

6. High stamina - never gasses

I am a fan.

I hate every other college in the country that has a wrestling team. I also hate every other college in the country that doesn't have a wrestling team. I hate people who want to talk numbers, outcomes and projections that have nothing to do with wrestling. I like to talk and write about wrestling and create wrestling videos and cartoons, and I'm biased against people who aren't equally interested.

In that respect, I'm like the serial killer at Thanksgiving dinner who is burning up inside to say, "Guess what I did yesterday?"

thats all good, but they aren't bias'. The idea is to point out things you are essentially a hypocrite about.

Bias to me does not mean hypocrisy.  I'll have to rethink my answer.

I am biased toward guys that have some overlap with my past even if it violates the creed I mentioned above.  And so if there is a conservative style, high pedigree wrestler from the Lehigh Valley or the broader Philadelphia area, I would probably root for them against a wrestler who fits the criteria I put above.  That makes me a tribalist for my hometowns to some extent.

thats a good example. "tribal tendencies" might be a more accurate statement of my intention
