Not sure if this is a thread already but seemed like a good one to have. To start a conversation, I was thinking about the class of 2026 and was wondering if as a coach you guys would rather get both Rayney brothers (I assume they are a package deal) or one of Bassett/Forrest.

I have seen videos of the Rayney brothers wrestling greco. How well do they do in freestyle and folkstyle.

Real good question. I like it. I think I'd take both Raney's over one of Bassett/Forrest because two high placers at NCAAs beats one champ from an NCAA team tournament standpoint. And then if one (or both) of the Raney's wins it that's an added bonus.

Both just made the U17 WTT Freestyle finals (against each other) and both are Super 32 AA's. So I'd say pretty well.

both 2x ironman and super 32 placers the smaller one won Fargo in both styles I believe last year the other was at worlds and won gold in Greco and then the heavier one made both teams for cadets beating his brother in the finals for free.

the heavier one probably had the best who's 1 match ever with jax this last year I would watch it if you haven't insane number of points.

Gophers won’t be in on Raineys, Bassett or Forrest but Kellen Wolbert is the big name AWA kid in the class of 2026 and I know for a fact the gophers have a good shot at him.

Mizzou lost out on Wyatt Duchateau, I was hoping Wolbert became a Tiger.

It's an interesting question.  Basically what you're asking is would you take two top 10 prospects over a #1 prospect.

I tried to look back at recent recruiting classes to see where it would've made sense to take the one guy over the two, and I don't think there's an obvious answer at all to this question.

Take 2017--you could take Fix at #1 and you would've gotten amazing production.  You also could've had Yianni and Vito if you're Cornell, or Lee and Warner if you're Iowa.   Third option, you could have Nick Lee and Berge at Penn State... a little less clear.

2018--Gable vs. Sasso/Hoffman or Parris/Silva.  In that scenario Gable's the better pick.

2019--Kerkvliet vs. Schultz/Chlebove, or Kharchla/Decatur.  Kerkvliet looks like the best option there.

2020--Amos vs. take your pick... any combo is pretty much better.

2021--Shapiro vs. Kueter/Arnold... remains to be seen.

If both Raney brothers end up being internationally credentialed (i.e. medal winners in freestyle juniors), I would take them.  The miss rate on those guys is too low to pass up a chance to fill two spots in your lineup with surefire AA's and possible title contenders.

That was my thinking as well I feel like the most points the one guy could score at NCAAs for his career is around 100? With the Rayney brothers I feel like not only do you bring in two very good wrestlers but a workout partner for each guy to help them not stall out in progress. so even if they both low AA you're probably getting 100 points from them with the upside of a high AA or national title which could push that up to like 120-140 points and a better dual team.

I think it's different for each specific team too. For example, a school like Okie State would probably take Forrest/Bassett because the 'home run hitter' may be enough to push them into 2nd and they may not have a need in their lineup for both Raney's. However, a school like Illinois would probably prefer the Raney's because they'd fill two holes in their lineup as opposed to one.

Yeah.  I think if you made me pick today I'd go with either of Forrest or Basset as I think they're both pretty close to can't miss prospects.

If you're Penn State you might just nab the entire bunch and call it a day.
