2024-2025 Lineups

Penn State will be the heavy favorite again next year, but before things get crazy with the portal I wanted to see what people think their favorite programs lineups look like next year:

Virginia Tech

125-Eddie Ventresca or Cooper Flynn (Ventresca dealt with a nerve issue that forced him to the sideline but I've heard good reports on him coming back healthy).

133-Cooper Flynn or Portal (Think Flynn bumps up but this could be a portal addition)

141-Sam Latona (one more year for Latona-he bumps up again to 141 where he will still be very tall and long for the weight)

149-Caleb Henson (HITMAN)

157-Rafael Hipolito (not a super heralded recruit but the staff loves him, very inexperienced wrestler but will grow by leaps and bounds over the next few years)

165- Clayton Ulrey (Connor Brady has another year but I think he said he wasn't going to use it-Ulrey will be undersized at 165 but is tough)

174-Lennox Wolak (All American transfer from Columbia)

184-TJ Stewart (All American)

197-Sonny Sasso (Very strong redshirt year, uber athletic and long 197)

HWT-Jimmy Mullen (Very strong redshirt year)

Here’s my take on Minnesotas lineup next year. This is without any portal additions or subtractions, but I have hope this will finally be the offseason that the portal works in our favor, for the first time since Michael Blockhus.

125 Brandon Morvari rFr
133 Tyler Wells So
141 Vance Vombaur rJr
149 Drew Roberts rJr
157 Blaine Brenner rJr down from 165
165 Andrew Sparks rSr or Hunter Lyden rSo
174 Max McEnelly rFr or Isaiah Salazar rSr
184 Max McEnelly rFr or Isaiah Salazar rSr
197 Gavin Nelson rFr
285 Bennet Tabor rSo or Koy Hopke Fr

I think they will look to the portal for any weights 149-165. I could see Salazar being done with college wrestling after this year, but I think he sticks around and either he or McEnelly goes 174. They could also get a transfer 125, but I’d bet only short term as they love Morvari.

How does this one look for VT?

125 - Flynn
133 - Ventresca
141 - Latona
149 - Church
157 - Henson
165 - Hipolito
174 - Wolak
184 - Stewart
197 - Sasso
285 - Catka

Not really thinking Mullen beats out Catka while focusing on Football.  Crook to redshirt.  VT has some insanely good true frosh coming in as well.

Salazar is massive for 184lbs.  I don't see how he goes down.

Minny has been unfortunate in the portal the last few years.  I think you guys might lose him that route, if he goes again.  I think McEnelly is going to have the spot next year.  The kid is special.

He really isn’t though. He was dwarfed by Plott and smaller than Rogotzke and Berge. From what I’ve heard, his cut to 184 isn’t that difficult and if he does return, they plan on approaching him about 174. He’s about the same size Devin Skatzka was his last year.

Nobody dwarfed him.  The guy is massive.  He might be shorter, but there wasn't a thicker 184lber on the mat with him at any point this year aside for perhaps Stewart...

Just telling you what I heard from someone pretty close to the situation. The cut wasn’t hard this year and they believe that 174 is an option.

One thing I feel certain on is that he’s either gotta change weights or transfer, unfortunately if he wants to keep wrestling because like you said. McEnelly is special.

I hope he stays.  You guys have been gutted the last few years and that sucks to see.  Eggum qualifying all ten still this year goes to show the depth and coaching ability him and his staff has up there

Rogotzke certainly did not dwarf Salazar, I though Salazar was clearly bigger.

Yeah you’re probably right and I’m getting overzealous in pushing my agenda in hopes to somehow keep him for another year at 174 lol

Mullen potential is unreal , he could’ve went down as the greatest NJ high school wrestler ever but decided to go to pan am instead of states the Covid season , he was never even close to losing a match ,football or no football his ceiling his a lot higher then catka and he’s going to pass him quickly if he hasn’t already

Missouri

125- Noah Surtin, Senior (unlike this year they will have kids that can spell him from time to time so he is not as beat up come nationals)
133- Kade Moore, Sophomore (with a possibility of True Freshman Gage Walker or Jake Crapps possibly pushing him for the spot)
141- Josh Edmond, Junior
149- Logan Gioffre, Sr., / Nathan Pulliam, Jr., /Zeke Seltzer, So. - I can see Seltzer being the starter here after gettin a summer of putting on some good weight.
157- J. Conway, So.,/Cameron Steed, So., /Logan Gioffre, Sr.,  - This would be Steed's but I heard he now weighs in the 180s. Gioffre wrestled 157 last year so it wouldn't surprise me.
165 - Cameron Steed, So.or Keegan O'Toole Sr., - I think it is going to be Steed.
174- O'Toole Sr.,  (or possibly Whiting if Keegan goes back to 165 or even Steed)
184- Hawks, Jr. /Whiting, So.  - It will be a battle again.
197- Rocky Elam, Sr. - With Sinclair redshirting. I don't think Rocky has the frame to carry the weight like his brother. Plus it took Zach 2+ years to become a good sized 285 weight wise. Don't think they can do it 6 months.
285- Seth Nitzel, Jr.  or Portal. Heard that Boersma was hurt this year and maybe done (which sucks). Just keeping it warm until Stillwell gets here.

Logan Swensen is going to be a beast, but I feel like in high school he’s displayed a similar lack of offense that his brother has. I think that keeps him from being elite right away, but he’ll be really close to that eventually. I keep waiting for Cael to show some more explosiveness.

Cael seems like a very good athlete. He shows some of that explosiveness on reattacks but definitely has shown a lack of ability to generate his own offense against the elite guys.

depending on what davino can do and how cannon continues to develop (really good red shirt season) I think this is a strong second place contender.
