We couldn't tell in the arena, was Brands challenging for the Merkle position?  They're not showing replays, so someone had to pull it up on their phones, lol. In a related story, that sucked. 
You can't tell from the broadcast, but the commentators are speculating it is about Figs grabbing the shoe (he had his fingers dug into the laces, which maybe isn't legal? )

Iowa State placing above Iowa actually doesn't bother me - I think it's cool that the state has multiple top programs. It's the continued lack of individual champions that has bothered me for the past 15 years

Penn state has a real deal kid coming in and Stanich is going to keep get better he went to a small public high school , Never had any real practice partners he’s going to keep jumping levels

I just think beating ISU h2h and in the team race is a consideration for Brands' job security (like his predecesor)
