what is this based off of?

Nothing in particular. I was just wondering since everybody else is transferring to OSU that maybe Meyer Shapiro will as well.

I would be pretty shocked he seems super close with Yianni and Grey.

I just read in The Athletic that the new thing in college football is for NIL collectives to provide the family a travel stipend to induce a player to transfer.

So basically a series of free vacations to places their kid will never go to. First we will head down to Miami for a nice weekend on the beach and tell the coaches we definitely had a great visit and they are in our top 25 schools we are looking at.  Next up we will head to NY.....

I think they get the money after the transfer. The idea is that now they can travel to see the kid play. Maybe they just get tickets and hotel rooms at the game site on game weekends, or maybe they get cash and go to Miami when the kid is playing in Nebraska in December?

Cleveland Belton entered the portal last off-season.  Wrestlestat has just started showing his name again in the active portal list.

If he is in fact - again - in the transfer portal - which appears to be the case - you have to wonder where he ends up.

But after his disgraceful antics in the championship match at the PAC 12 tournament this year I have to wonder who would be interested.

It also leaves Oregon State S.O.L. at 141 lbs.

SInce @Thumper @NearFall @bronco is a coward and blocks me along with a lot of people who disagree with him, I will go ahead and tell you the truth....

Belton is in the portal, but not sure if he will continue wrestling, stay at OSU or actually transfer.

I know exacly what happened, since I was mat side. At the 2023 Pac-12 championship you might remember that ASU put Yas in at the last minute to wrestle. In the championship, Belton pinned him in OT. Belton stood over him at the end. Probably not the best move. They got into it there and had to be separated. This year, Vaquez returned the favor with some choice words -they got into it  and had to be separated. Rivalry....tempers.... competitors.... no backing down...that's what it was. It was a two year confrontation in the making that I am sure Vasquez had circled on his calendar. Not handled the best by either wrestler.... disgraceful? No.

As a side note, OSU is not SOL at 141. Singleton was bumped up all year from being the #2 guy at 141. He got some ranked wins and was ranked in the top 30 most of the season. OSU will be fine at 141.

One more thing from The Athletic article this morning.

Pay to play is allowed. We all need to wrap our heads around that. While the rule originally banned any pay to play arrangements in February of this year a Tennessee federal court issued a temporary injunction on the NCAA, preventing them from enforcing that part of the rule. That injunction applies in every state. Until that injunction is lifted, collectives and individual boosters can use NIL as an inducement for enrollment or transfer.

One more thing from The Athletic article this morning.

Pay to play is allowed.

If pay to play is allowed then why do we have limits on eligibility?   Someone needs to sue, if UX wants to hire a 40 year old to wrestle for them wouldn't it be age discrimination to prevent it?

I also know an old swimmer with a speedo ready to travel.  🙂

What antics are you talking about?  I don't think I saw the match

He wrestled his former teammate at ASU in the championship match (Jesse Vasquez). It was a close match most of the way but Vasquez won it and to say that Belton's action were classless, at and after the end of the match, would be an understatement.  He embarrassed himself and his team.  There is clearly "bad blood" between the two of them.  They've wrestled competitively twice (that I know of) and Vasquez has won both matches.

Here's a link to the video of the match:

Hello Daniel,

If you weren't such an idiot you would know that you're an idiot and you keep re-posting relevant information, thus making yourself look like an idiot.

Have you checked on the caregiver you've kept locked up in the basement within the last three to five weeks?  She (he?) might have needed some water or something in that span of time.

#CaregiverLivesMatter

Have a lovely day, West Coast DanTheMan
Sincerely,
Everybody

We should start tossing out official predictions for the landing spots on all below. I’ll go first. I’ll admit, some of these are more of a hope than a prediction…

Alirez - Northern Colorado
Hendrickson - Oklahoma State
Parco - Iowa
Amine - Virginia Tech
Cannon - no idea, maybe Purdue?
Barraclough - Arizona State
Nijenhuis - NDSU
Belton - Cal Poly

I previously said in response to someone, that I do not see Alirez going to Oklahoma State as that would not be money well spent. It would not get them to a title in his one year of remaining eligibility. But after listening to Taylor's press conference, I can now see it happening.

Taylor emphasized the need to build the RTC right away. His reasoning is that you need to show recruits and possible transfers that there is a path to success beyond college, if they have those aspirations. Of course, anyone who is an NCAA title contender right off the bat has those aspirations.

Against that backdrop, bringing Alirez in for a year makes perfect sense if it is a glide path to building the RTC. I think we all agree that Alirez will be a real threat at 65kg for years to come, so viewing him as an RTC building block rather than just a college building block means you probably make the NIL down payment on him this year to secure him for the RTC next year, and beyond.
