It looked like they were administering CPR to Argentina on Mat B. Glad to see he was resuscitated to immediately give up 4 points and lose.

Is this Perez for Dominican Republic an American?  Apologies to the fine people of DR for asking but I can't recall them having any wrestlers in the past.   Looked pretty darn good in the two matches I saw.

What happened to Nick Lee? Was this suppose to go in Gomez’ favor?

sorry, haven’t seen much of Gomez but I do know he’s a freestyle guy first and foremost.

Lee probably wins the match by 6+ points more often than not.
But Gomez is Gomez, and when he gets a little steam, he sometimes looks like a world beater.
There's a reason he went to Mexico though, its HARD to make the U.S. team. We have 5+ guys that can give the absolute best in the world all they can handle in any given match.
Gomez is not among the best in the world, and losing to him is probably the biggest upset of the tournament so far.
Valencia beating Torreblanca is up there as well.

Does anyone know of Mexico has qualified anyone for the Olympics yet, and if so who they are? If not yet, who is still in the hunt?

Mexican.

Maybe the non-wrestling board should reconsider their thoughts about the border

So Anthony Valencia beat Torreblanca.

The same Torreblanca that was like 15-0 against Blue Dragons Jr.

Valencia beating Torreblanca is a far bigger upset.  Guy has won six golds at the Pan Ams since 2015 and a silver.

Here is his results against USA on the Senior MFS circuit...
- 2023 Pan Am Games - WIN over Mark Hall via DEC 3-1
- 2023 Pan Am Champs - WIN over Mark Hall via TECH 14-4
- 2020 Pan Am OGQ - LOSS to David Taylor via DEC 8-0
- 2020 Pan Am Champs - WIN over Alex Dieringer via DEC 2-1
- 2019 Worlds - LOSS to Myles Amine via DEC 3-2
- 2019 Pan Am Games - WIN over Patrick Downey III via DEC 7-2
- 2018 Worlds - LOSS to David Taylor via DEC 8-0
- 2018 Pan Am Champs - LOSS to David Taylor via DEC 3-2
- 2018 Yariguin - Loss to David Taylor via DEC 4-4
- 2017 Pan Am CHamps - WON over Gabe Dean via DEC 6-4

For Valencia to beat him is a great feather in his cap.

He beats everyone not named David Taylor for those who don't claim Myles Amine (I do).

Also, I know it is Folkstyle and they aren't the same thing... but for shits and giggles I went and seen how Wrestlestat compares Gomez and McNeil... and they're saying it is very much a match, which I believe.

Respect what Gomez has done, but he has exerted a shit tonne of energy to get that win, whereas McNeil has been on the mat like 65 seconds total.

As far as I can tell, Zane Richards is 3-0 against Darian Cruz. The one thing about Cruz is that he wrestles in every tournament and exhibition he can get a ticket for. He's dangerous, just ask Thomas Gilman. But Richards is so precise and not prone to Gilman-like mistakes.

Zane's first-round opponent wrestled in the United States last year, is a model and even has a Wrestlestat.com page. Plus, he is an influencer. Zane wrestled 133 in high school, so he's pumping in liquids and other calories right now.

For RBY fans (I am not one of them), here's a video of Zane Richards teching Oscar Tigreros in the championship of the Pan Am Games. Like his last opponent, Tigreros will have the strength advantage over Bravo Young:

Here's a link to all the current qualifiers.
And no Mexico has a chance with RBY and Gomez, but no current rasslers
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrestling_at_the_2024_Summer_Olympics_–_Qualification

Thanks for that link.

Some interesting items. Cuba has qualified five athletes in Greco. In freestyle, they have zero qualified now, but four athletes have a shot at the Pan Am qualifier.

Honduras (!) qualified a wrestler in Greco and they have a shot for another one in freestyle.

Puerto Rico has a freestyler qualified (Seabass) and three more still have a shot.

Mexico, Venezuela, and Canada each have three alive in the Pan Am qualifier.

I haven’t looked at the women’s brackets yet, but I’m sure they’re interesting as well.

As of now we have 6/6 WFS spots qualified.

We have 4/6 MFS spots qualified with a shot at a fifth at Pan Ams.

We have 3/6 Greco spots qualified.
