Before I get blown up, I don’t have a dog in the fight. I’m a Mizzou fan sitting here watching a great dual between two top teams. Legit question and discussion point….

Looking at Eierman, and now seeing Teske, Woods, Franek, Caliendo…is transferring to Iowa improving these guys? To be fair, bringing this up as Iowa is wrestling the best team in the country, but…thoughts? Not sure who is a part of the HWC, which could be a factor to transfer there, but doesn’t seem like it’s putting these guys over the top on the college level. Thinking of Eierman’s comments that he felt Iowa could push him to the top of the podium, and assume Woods felt the same way. Unfortunately didn’t happen for Jayden and not looking great for Woods now.

Eierman and Woods had their highest placements ever at Iowa, both 1 seeds.  Just didn't happen in the last match, and lost close matches to great opponents.  Teske was never an AA anywhere else.

Brands doesn’t have a clue how to take a great wrestler and make them better. Evident for almost a decade now.

Define great wrestler

Pat Lugo got way better at Iowa.

It's just a weird narrative. People only compare Iowa to Penn State, but coming up short of Penn State is then treated like they're Oklahoma.  Notably, many of these transfers are still hanging around postgrad.

A guy that is considered a bona fide title contender

Like the 5 #1’s currently on the Penn Stare team. Only a 5 star coaching team can make that happen.

First of all throw anything that happens against Penn State out the window. They’re that much better than the rest of the field.   Second of all most of Iowas transfers are from other conferences to the big ten where the competition and grind of the dual schedule are far tougher than where they came from.

So in your opinion is all AA a great wrestler and a title contender no matter the weight and competition?

No. But guys like Kem, Marinelli, Eierman, GIlman, Woods to name a few all could've won and never did (woods could but it looks bad) That's damning. those guys win 10 total in Penn State's win.

That’s a nice opinion that you can never prove. If Kem was at Penn st he wouldn’t have started over Starocci soooooooooo

But if he was the Penn State starter, odds are he wins more. Everyone else sees how Iowa guys plateau near the end of their careers and don't get over the hump in the last 6 years. This is not controversial at all.

He certainly would have been more healthy. Brands runs his guys into the ground.

I would exclude Eierman from the list. He got to SV in the final his first year at Iowa after never making a final. The next year he was looking like a sure finalist until he messed up his knee late in the season. And I do not blame that on Iowa grind. I blame that on the style he brought to Iowa. He was always OK giving up a leg and countering, but it finally caught up to him.

The OP is about tranfers getting better at Iowa once they get there. 🤦‍♂️

The theme applies to guys in the room for a career, though. If you're an elite recruit, it may be the worst room in the country to go to. They will break you down, give you HEW, and you'll have limited senior prospects unless you go to Penn State's room. Ask Thomas Gilman. He will tell you.

Sincere question — has he really said things along those lines? I know he’s been a little antagonistic on Twitter overall but

The theme?   It Was about transfers getting better at Iowa.  Or not getting better.  Franek, Caliendo, Teske, Eireman, woods all are totally into senior wrestling???  🤦‍♂️

Cope harder, I guess? there are 30 head coaches in the country that would get more out of Iowa's resources, including two in that state.  The fact that a historic, iconic, proud program like Iowa lets themselves be coached by two brothers who clearly don't have all the crayons in the box is downright sad.
