I fat-fingered my data entry and had his record at 6-6 one year… Still working on sanity scrubs with it. When were the "non-pigtail" years? There have been championship pigtails in the 32-man bracket structure for every tourney since 1967. The only difference today is the existing process defines a single pigtail for each 33-man bracket, as opposed to the era when qualifying tourneys selected their own national qualifiers allocated by the 5-year R12 calculation and the (back-room) "wildcard" process. I knew the 1936 Unl situation as I knew Scobey (Lehigh) only had 3 in the weight so the 3rd had to be one. Good point. So imagine you are that fifth man, Burl Boring (I am guessing he did a lot of hand fighting and never took a shot), who goes 0-1 in the same bracket but loses out to the guy who goes 0-2 for fourth place just because that guy got two buys to Boring's one.
