MadMardigain Posted January 14 Share Posted January 14 (edited) My understanding is for many Olympics the general tickets are often acquired by host country citizens by putting your name in a lottery system and hoping your name get pulled. Or you can purchase the tickets form someone who’s name did. Some people will put in for whatever events they can and then go to the games and try to swap them out with someone for specific event tickets. CHROMEBIRD Posted January 15 Share Posted January 15 I doubt that the tickets have been released at this point, but a thing to keep in mind is Pauley Pavillion (UCLA) will be the venue for wrestling in 2028. There isn't a ton of floor space so I am guessing they will eliminate some of the bleacher seating to make room for multiple mats. bnwtwg Posted January 15 Share Posted January 15 My household plan is to enter as many lotteries as we are allowed. If we get selected then make some trades. The the real plan takes effect: I plan to bite the bullet and pay whatever it costs on the second-hand market if I don't get lottery for men's freestyle, women's swimming, and luckily the marathon on the final morning will be free to stand along the course. I just need to figure out if they will be on TicketMaster or somewhere else. I may also try to get tix to men's rugby sevens if it doesn't conflict. Not sure how many times I will get the chance to take the kiddos to a World Cup game in 2026 and a US summer Olympics so I'm not going to miss the opportunity even though it's going to be insanely expensive. 1 i am an idiot on the internet Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
mspart Posted January 15 Share Posted January 15 (edited) We tried that with the Olys in 2002 in Salt Lake. We lived in MN then and I had tickets. Then we moved to Hawaii and I sold the tickets because I thought it would be too expensive to travel. But I should have kept them in hind sight. They weren't for anything great. Nordic Ski jumping, Speed Skating, and I think snowboarding. Not finals or anything. We had younger kids at the time. I watched wrestling last time almost exclusively and thought that I missed out on other events that I enjoy watching. No, marathon is not one of them! But I do like the track, field, swimming, gymnastics as well. Last kid should be through will college by 2028, so it should be well within my means, but it just kills me to spend outrageous amounts on sports tickets. The first round of lottery tickets is usually around 18 months before the opening ceremonies. As the host region, we will get access to a larger pool of tickets than other regions, but there will also be more demand as some people will grab anything just to experience the games. CoSport has handled US tickets in the past but who knows what that will look like by 2026 when tickets start going on sale. Guessing based on past experience and location, D seating for prelims around $75 up to $250-300 for A seating. Finals something like $100 for D to $400 for A. This is purely speculative though. There is nothing like it in the sporting world, imo. It's hard to comprehend how loud and incessant the Iranian horns are from TV. Bought everything available at the time. During the initial sale they make you buy multiple sports, so I grabbed women’s soccer and sailing as well. New tickets would pop up every couple months and I grabbed the sessions I was missing. No such thing as an all sessions pass like NCAA’s. Have section B and C for prelims and section A for all gold medal FS finals. Going to be a good time. Hoping to go to LA in 2028 as well. I imagine transportation and planning will be much easier. MinnesotaMustang Posted February 20 Share Posted February 20 It’s interesting, some of the lesser sports e.g. “dressage” are incredibly difficult tickets, in addition to obvious things like gymnastics and swim. Every sport has their own group of hardcore fans much like wrestling. There is also a group of people that seems to attend “every” Olympics. For Paris it looks like the “Concorde Urban Project” has become a hot ticket. This is where they do skateboarding, BMX, and I think breakdancing. Probably the novelty. The IOC has seemed to be doing a good job controlling scalping and reselling, with the only tickets available so far being through them at face value. Got all but a couple sessions the first go around and got the others randomly within a couple weeks after that. I still haven't bought my flights or hotels yet. I'd like to go to other events like soccer too. I have tried to buy some lodging but haven't been successful yet. Tickets were better than I thought they would be except for the A sections that I had to buy a few of. Some people say wait on booking hotel because more will open up as it gets close, but who knows. Flights are still plentiful and not that bad. I booked one that the host ended up trying to book a whole other family in the 2nd room of the apartment when it was supposed to be empty. I peaced out and and convinced the other family to leave too. The guy was pissed I got both of us out. He figured at least one of us would stay. Got air bnb to pay the difference between what I paid and a new one right downtown. It ended up being a sweet deal. But I would never try it again for a big event like that since they really provide no protection. I'll look into the facebook group. Thanks.
