Flo's got it 17-15 for Cornell (credit to @Jon_Kozak )

Wrestlestat has 24-9 for Cornell:

https://www.wrestlestat.com/compare/dual/20/cornell/77/wisconsin

I think 125, 157, 197, and 285 are tossups. I have 133, 141, 149, 174, and 184 with Cornell as the favorite and 165 as the only match where Wiscy is favored.

125 - Wiscy Dec

133 - Cornell Tech

141 - Cornell Major

149 - Cornell Major

157 - Cornell Dec

165 - Wiscy Major

174 - Cornell Dec

184 - Cornell Major

197 - Wiscy Dec

285 - Wiscy Dec

Cornell 23 - Wiscy 13

I would be more surprised to see Wiscy win six than I would to see Cornell win nine.

* Disclaimer - Quick breakdown and I am not a pro, let alone a pro at either of these teams.

I’d say 285 leans towards Cornell.

Kind of crazy that a few years ago Hilger was thought of as a solid AA and now he’s an also-ran. Depending on how brackets shake out at B1Gs, he could get knocked off in a quarterfinal. He’s 6th at best now. Kerk, Parris, Cass, Davison and Orndorff are all better than him (yes, I know Orndorff is oh-fer against him). I’d put Fernandes at that Orndorff level.

They went 1-1 against each other last year.

Hillger won 6-2 in the dual on February 20th.  Fernandez won 2-1 at NCAAs.

Edit: In what universe is Ormdorff a step ahead of either of these gents?  Same tier.

Two things about Flo's review:

  1. From this weekend, it appears that Brett Ungar will be at 125 going forward:  he majored LaJoie and nearly took out Jax Forrest; and
  2. Fernandes was limping a bit after his only match on Sunday, and didn't once throw boots in as is his modus operandi.  They MFFed him
(probably out of caution with his history of a bad knee)

Ungar is an upgrade, and if Fernandes can't go, I don't know if they have another heavyweight (Furman is not enrolled this semester).

I was saying I’d take Orndorff to out place Hillger.

I think Fernandes had/has more room for improvement from last year.

Boasting about nearly taking out a kid who hasn't even started his freshman year of highschool wrestling seems off.

This will sound like I'm quibbling ... but generational talent?  How many generational talents have been popping up the past 10 years?

I'm guessing more than just Forrest.

Spencer Lee?  Gable Steveson?  Yianni D?  Kyle Snyder?  I bet we can add more.

Not sure the term 'generational talent' is right.  Unless generations are all of 1 year long.  But even so ... there are some other super high schoolers right now.

125 - Wiscy Dec -- Agree

133 - Cornell Tech -- Cornell major.  Not thinking Vito will go for the Tech.

141 - Cornell Major - I'm favoring Cornella but this will be a tough match vs Zargo .  I hope you are right, but I predict a decision for Cornella.

149 - Cornell Major - Would love to see this.  Hoping Yianni goes.  And he has a fire lit.

157 - Cornell Dec - Thinking Wisconsin will win this.  If saw Yapoujian this weekend might feel better.  But didn't.

165 - Wiscy Major - Wiscy but by decision.  Ramirez needs to wrestle smarter.  Hamiti very good.

174 - Cornell Dec - Foca gets the major or better.

184 - Cornell Major - Agree

197 - Wiscy Dec - If Cardenas, I pick Cardenas -- not sure if he will be in the lineup though.  Otherwise, not sure who.

285 - Wiscy Dec - yup - not sure Fernandes will be representing.  So worried here.

Cornell 23 - Wiscy 13 -- I have it 15-19, Cornell.

Don't see Lamont getting teched, Zargo and Model will not get majored either. In fact I will pick both Zargo and Model will win.

Care to share a match by match prediction?

I am curious as to your reasonings for your three picks as well.

125- Barnett wins a close one

133- Arujau gets the major 14-5

141-Zargo had Cole Matthews on the ropes before getting choked out and Cornella lost to Carter Young who didn't even win at match at NCAAs.

149-Yianni wins, but could see this being a decision if Gomez wrestles it close. I anticipate Gomez wrestles aggressively which could turn the match into a major.

157-Model has been making big strides and think he outlasts his opponent in a close 1-2 point win.

165- Hamiti pinned Ramirez last year, but think Hamiti still wins comfortably.

174-Rowley is a big ? as a freshman, but think Foca gets bonus points.

184- Bonus for Cornell

197-Amos wins. He almost won last year dealing with all the issues he had going on in his life.

285-Hillger was hurt last season and has gained quite a bit of strength. I think he wins by 3-4.

18-16 Wisconsin

This should be a good dual.  I'm not sure Cornell has all of the lineup available, but I've got it at 5-5 split, Cornell with a couple of bonus points - 17-15 Big Red.

Coach Grey just indicated in email that Cardenas will be there, and his brief discussion of Fernandes didn't mention any injury.  No mention of Vito/Yianni/Yapoujian.

Gonna be a great dual.

Give me a break… I think Hillger wins but to say he has gained a lot of strength sounds ridiculous- he has been around forever and sorry but don’t see some major strength gain that hasn’t already been realized

Gaining strength from being healthy and being able to get good workouts in is ridiculous? LOL ok....
