Wonder who will take one next season? Many of these guys I would imagine also have the Covid year. That’s a lot of years in college.

For ASU, I think it’s only Schultz, Figs and Teemer that qualify.

Question on Oly Redshirts....  It is my understand that USA Wrestling (a separate entity than the NCAA) determines the criteria for who is eligible to take an Oly Redshirt.

My questions is under what authority can USAW impact the NCAA eligibility rules?

And if there was some rule/law passed by the NCAA that deferred that authority to USAW, could USAW have determined that everyone who competed in 2020 season was deemed to have been an Oly Redshirt so that the seniors wouldn't have lost a year of eligibility?

Still weird to me that some guys only got to compete in 3 NCAAs and others are getting 5.  Heck Daton Fix can probably take another Oly year next year and still be eligible to compete at NCAAs in 2 years at the age of 27.

The NCAA could pass a bylaw to eliminate ORS if they wanted to. It would just be an incredibly stupid move, one that goes against their mission, and would trigger a sh*tstorm because it would very likely have to apply to other sports as well.

Olympic redshirt standards are specified in NCAA rules. I am not sure to what extent they are coordinated with USAW or if USAW has any input.

Drowning in data, but thirsting for knowledge

are either Bouzakis or Mendez eligible for an Olympic RS? Assuming Bouzakis is in fact staying at Ohio State, this could help them sort out the 133 logjam, at least for one more year. I guess Mendez could just a take regular RS next year too.

Criteria for 2024 Olympic Redshirt...

Screenshots_2023-03-24-12-23-11.png

#5 is interesting that they included the "AND".  It would seem to only apply to Shane Griffith?  Carr, Mekhi and AJ Ferrari all past champs with eligibility but they are previous UWW medalist so don't need #5.
