What’s the highest seed a wrestler has or can receive as an at large bid? I know some are 32/33 pigtail to get in, but was wondering if any wrestler needed an at-large and received a top 15-ish seed.

Are there any actual rules to this? Otherwise I'm thinking Gomez will get a decently high seed. And by high I mean Top 15. He could be a bracket buster seeded so low.

I would expect the following At-Larges to be within or near a Top 15 Seed :

125:  Cardinale (WV) & Brown (MD)

133:  McGonagle (Lehigh)

141:  Happel (UNI)

149:  Gomez (WI) & Zapf (PENN)

157:  Jacques (MIZ)

174:  Washington (IU) & Fisher (NW)

Mekhi Lewis got the 4 seed as an at-large.

Looked like he was in agony finishing off his quarterfinals match.

So it’s possible, but not probable that Gomez could be seeded top 4? No dog in the fight, before the injury he was a lock. B10 didn’t do him any favors.

I mean...Lewis defaulted in the ACCs and was a returning champ(from '19).

Gomez has lost his last 3 matches now. Got hurt for Thomas, lost in the 1st round to Rooks and then a DQ vs the Maryland kid.

I'd put Gomez as a ~10 seed. Kinda hard to see him being a top 8, but I really have no idea.

He looked like he was moving better in the Maryland match, but he's unlikely to have a full gas tank and he looked bad in that 1st match of the B1Gs. I think his ceiling went from potential at a historic upset...again, to hopefully being able to make a little run and finish at least somewhere on the podium.

mcgonagle is going to get a high seed and he's apparently going to try to wrestle but if i'm the alternate at 133 i definitely keep my weight down for a couple of weeks

Little Nicky Sorry-ano was a #3 as an At Large in 2017.

that's who i was thinking of when i said that i hoped that mcgonagle didn't go if he couldn't go. nicky robbed someone of an opportunity (to get rolled by the 1 seed)

What did the big do to Gomez?

Just stating he didn’t place and he lost 2x. Would it have made more sense to not wrestle at all? To me, probably. He would still have gotten the same At-large.

Can’t qualify if you don’t take the mat.

Of course he needed the :01 second long injury forfeit match. Killian Cardinale and others have done it.

A 0:01 Inj Def followed by an mff (like Cardinale) would have resulted in a better NCAA Seed for Gomez.  Admire that he tried to compete but he ultimately hurt his NCAA Seed & himself by wrestling.

It is sad that this is true but it is true

I didn't want to start a new thread for this ... but ... in years past the NCAA has released the Top 2 Seeds for each weight class about 15 minuts apart PRIOR to the Selection show.  I can't find when or if they are doing that ?  Anybody know ?
