WNBA Commissioner to retire after this season.

Her retirement will be effective as of Dec. 31, the league said.

It was inevitable. She totally botched the “what is a woman” thing.  Backed hero self into a a corner and had no other way out.

Hopefully they get someone in there with the goal of growing the sport rather than making it a laughingstock.  Everyone knows WNBA because of identity politics now, most have no idea about much else.   The league should be pushing the stars, Caitlyn Clark for sure as she packs arenas when her team comes to play.   She is making them more money than they ever have in the past.   Yet, the officials continually allow fouls against her that would not be tolerated in the NBA.   The WNBA floor officials are the worst I think I've ever seen.   Fix those things and WNBA might stand a chance at becoming profitable for the first time in history.   Yes, you heard that right, they have never not needed the bail out the NBA gives them.

Her mismanagement of the league predates the men wanting to enter the draft.   Caitlyn Clark is old news, yet she still brings in the fans and the money and there is no acknowledgement of that.   There is no promotion of that.   It would seem that officials on the floor have been told to look away from any foul on Clark and it has gotten pretty rough, rougher than the NBA would allow.  The few highlights I've seen are horrendous and the officials do nothing.

The trans issue predates the two guys signing up for the draft by months.   We had a minority owner of the local Seattle team verbally berate two teenagers until they cried because they were there supporting Sophie Cunningham's opinion that women should play women and men should play men.   This owner was suspended for 5 games or so.  Similar happened in Atlanta.   Similar has happened everywhere.   Where was the commissioner during all this?  Silent.   Did nothing.   And then the draft thing hit.

She essentially fought against her own brand and ensured continual loss of money when she should have been trying to get to a profitable stance.   That's why she should go.

Uh, who suspended the minority team owner for 5 games?

I’m not saying she’s doing a good job.  I have repeatedly stated that the WNBA should better define what women are eligible to play (and that they can even do so without being hypocritical).

Just saying that it’s very possible her leaving was already in the works.

Are you saying the minority owner didn’t deserve being suspended for what she did/said to those girls?

Yeah, just saying its because she mismanaged the league.  And I gave examples of the mismanagement.   You do not refute them so you must agree with them.

The league suspended the minority team owner but did you know that except for my posts?   I only heard it because of the local media here.   I never saw anything else about it.  It was quiet.

Atlanta a fan was asked to leave by security.   Whose security?  WNBA security.   https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/state/georgia/atlanta/2026/08/18/wnba-issues-apology-following-fan-interaction-at-atlanta-dream-game/91349594007/

She mismanaged the whole thing.

But she didn’t define what a woman was nor does she want to. Shes running away. Pretty simple.

I’m refuting that “she did nothing.”  I’m sure she was involved in the very suspension you referenced…And no I had not heard about it.  I pretty much never hear about anything regarding the WNBA unless it’s from conservatives whining about something.

She did something quietly perhaps.   She should have gone out and loudly proclaimed that this minority owner was being suspended for her horrific actions against two fans and anyone who does similar will be suspended for the rest of the season.  Make it loud.   That should have ended all this nonsense.  And if not, suspend whoever for the rest of the season, player, coach, owner, security.

The

WNBA officially issued the suspension and fine. [1, 2]
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert and league officials handed down a five-home-game suspension and an undisclosed financial penalty to Celeste Keaton, a minority co-owner of the Seattle Storm.
