I wrestled a dwarf in one of those tournaments who was very good, and I just didn't know how to approach him.  I ended up losing pretty convincingly but never faced him again.  I would have liked some guidance on how to approach that situation.

Takes a man to share this. There is a dwarf where I do BJJ. He's a former wrestler. It's pretty damn hard to snap him down. His legs are always underneath him.

I was thinking snap down cause of the head but yea that makes sense…I think you’d have to work the ole forehead into the temple and ankle pick…

I think Chris Perry top ride locking around the arm and head. Many had done it before him but after he got so effective with it they had to make a rule change and start counting. Also, many were leg passing as shot defense before Jesse Delgado but feel like the rule change came right after him as well.

No offence but I think you might be misattributing both rules, the side headlock thing was Fleming i think? Had a weird turn from there that looked like choke but wasn't. Also neutral danger was Heil.

TCNJ used to put on a summer wrestling camp in the late 90's/early 2000's run by Dave Icenhower.

I also wrestled a dwarf in HS and was also largely stymied until I figured out technique be damned just heavy hands on the head and used my leverage to force the front headlock position - from there he was cooked; drop it to the mat, spin behind, release and repeat

But that could just have been my particular dwarf not liking heavy hands; dunno if it works on all dwarves

I know a guy who wrestled him at nationals, he'll swear it’s BS to this day. "ITS LIKE HAVING A F'N 84LBER ON TOP OF YOU!"

If it were such an advantage, given the number of looney toons in the wrestling world, someone would’ve had an unfortunate chainsaw “accident” by now to gain that advantage.

It’s good of you to not stereotype dwarves and minimize the diversity of said dwarves… do they like being called dwarves now? I sure hope so… much more whimsical than “little people” or whatever Disney wanted to call them.

How about OZ?  You can buy them at Dunkin  6 count or 10 count

My argument was always that if it even was, it wasn't while he was re-inventing the whole sport of wrestling so he could compete at all.

I spent nearly 20 years working in various D1 college athletic departments but I now manage a bio lab - so while not a scientist I'm scientist adjacent and at least know a sample size of one (1) isn't going to be enough to get published in a credible journal

As for preferred nomenclature, I just rolled with dwarf cause that was said first and I didn't think it was a clear and obvious slur

I thought they were little people but I’ve gotten in trouble for calling myself names on here so I wouldn’t do say what I do…

What? It’s belittling to make assumptions about a whole group of people based on some anecdotal experience.

In the full tilt podcast Kolat talked about a guy who had an impossible leg and would lead it really hard, so he had to shoot to it, only so he could just drop it and grab the other one which was now available. Most probably remember RBY posting his hand on his hip so Desanto couldn't get a tie up on that side (i guess the rationale was that he wasn't near fast enough to shoot on him without a tie up, and would be feeding into his best position if he did)

I started imagining if wrestlers from other countries had weird plans for wrestlers who seem normal to us, or in any case what are the weirdest gameplans you're aware of, especially ones that correspond with weird styles, I'd really like to know how people handle Seth Gross cause he's one of the more unorthodox i can think of.

If you notice Gross constantly reaches high with his same side hand as his lead leg. This is where he usually gets scored on. If you shoot high and finish high, not on your knees you take away most of his scrambling opportunity.

Saw a match between Randy Lewis and Tom Brands. He was basically taunting him to shoot.

Randy Lewis: The Impossible Leg (DVD)

With Randy Lewis,
1984 Olympic Gold Medalist;
2X NCAA Champ, 4X All-American for the University of Iowa

Randy Lewis presents a counter offense DVD like no other. As a wrestler, Lewis used to bait opponents into shooting a single or high crotch. His philosophy was that no matter where he was on the mat, he was in position to score. Now, in this clinic demonstration, Lewis passes along the techniques that made him one of the most dangerous wrestlers from the feet. Once your opponent gets a leg, Lewis wants to do one of two things - square the hips or get the man to his knees. In each position, Lewis shows a number of different moves that will allow your wrestler to score - and even put his opponent to his back. In addition, he shows how to score if the opponent has your wrestler's foot in the air, if he collapses the leg, and how to score from a low single shot. These techniques are more than defensive moves - they will allow your wrestlers to always be on the offense!
