Maybe this is what he meant by discipline.
maybe he had to cut a lot more for NCAAs than usual and it caused his sub par performance.

he did get majored by the 14 seed and pinned by the 11 seed

Or maybe it's just really, really hard for a human being of that size to cut his body down one or two weights from his ideal weight class for an entire season.

Remember when I said, post NDI 2025, that tanOSU looked to be in peak form and that it would be very, very hard for them to hold it until the end of the year? And multiple posters mocked me? Anyone with a pair of working eyes could see it wasn't going to work long term. They were KILLING good teams at NDI, and it was painfully obvious that several of them were already approaching the edge.

Here’s the link to the video for those that haven’t watched it…again I didn’t take the self discipline things as a Bouzakis specific thing.

I took it as a dig at Bouzakis. When Ryan was discussing the 125-pound spot, self-discipline was clearly at the forefront of his mind, so it seemed obvious he was referring to Bouzakis. I also wasn't a fan of his suggestion that the wrestlers' mindset should be centered on pleasing the coach rather than taking ownership of their own development.

This seems to be a pattern...

If Fred and Co. want to pretend like the entire tanOSU team has magically jumped levels every fall, they are more than welcome to do it.

Tell that to the families of the two wrestlers who died because of excessive weight cutting.

i would gladly. my ignorance isn't bringing anyone back from the dead, nor would my pretending to be for the purposes of virtue signaling.

Based on the new rulings and TR interview setting up for this season:

125: Bouzakis. KIlkeary will wrestle a bulk of the matches through the season

133: Davino

141: Mendez

149: Kade Brown

157: Cannon

165: Stiles

174: Smith

184: Waters

197: Shumate

HVY: Feldman

Overall a much stronger team if Mendez is back. I am going with Waters at 184 because I think hes that good.

AA's- 133, 141, 157, 174 HVY

I think OSU can AA at 125 165 and 197.

149 and 184 Hopefully round of 16 type. I like Waters but that weight is so deep and Brown hasn't shown me enough to think he can break through the top 10-12, maybe Shaw makes this weight and gives Brown some comp.

Seeing a 5th or 6th place finish in March.

Ryan seemed really tired.  'Tired Tom.'

Understandable. Coaching at a major D1 program that isn't Iowa, PSU, or OKST and trying to compete with them sounds extremely stressful and draining. Certainly not fun.

Fishback is a 3x R12er or something close to that. I think he would be a pick to AA this year. Neither is a lock, but I think whoever goes at 184 will be expected to be a strong AA threat.

I think OSU can win at 125, 133, 149, 157 and HWT ... but maybe you are talking about something different.   🤔

"I will stick up for Ryan in the sense that the people saying he doesn't know cutting weight is hard is ridiculous. Ryan has been around d1 wrestling for 40 years, and despite me doubting he's a good in the room coach, there is no way he didn't have a vague idea of how tuned in bouzakis was........"

Above is what I had written in defence of Ryan before I remembered something. I was gonna say that if he is saying "discipline" i'm sure he has a reason and isn't doing it out of bitterness, but then I remember in Stieber's Flo film he literally says that when he was a RS freshmen he would just skip practice cause he liked to float off the last few pounds but was too sucked out to work out. So at least at that point the whole coaching staff was flagrantly incompetent by high school standards. Seems like it must have gotten better but I don't know how it could have been that bad in the first place.

whatatya mean by "can"? If I throw out "can" I mean like 1/4 chance i think? Maybe they got a 1/4 of winning two of those.

Kind of related did anyone catch Rob Koll's comments about Bryce Hepner? When asked about him, Koll rolled his eyes and said it was "a love/hate relationship" with Bryce. Seemed strange

Rob Koll Talks Tar Heels Entering Year 4 In Chapel Hill

My read was that he started to say "love/hate" and then thought better mid-sentence because he didn't think it would come off how he meant it. Koll followed up with "Brycer Hepner... do you know Bryce?" Which made me think that it was one of those "If you know Bryce, you'd know exactly why I made that face when you brought him up." Just my take on it.

They just won 3 of em last year with tFr, one of the others was in the finals prior toss up match and HWT is weak this year and the Fr is a stud.

I’d guess other programs would throw a ton of money at him and not make him cut to 125 to start.

What programs are throwing a ton of money at someone that has never AA'd to come to their program?

I would imagine that whatever NIL Nic is getting at tOSU is probably more than any other programs would offer him at this point. tOSU came to an agreement with Nic as a top 3 recruit from the class of 2022 with huge upside. Now he is a DNP, DNP, DNP, who hasn't really shown any real progression over his college career. He can beat just about anyone. Unfortunately, he can lose to just about anyone as well. What program that has the funding to compete with tOSU would pay good money for a guy who is anything but a lock to AA in 2027?

well said / i can't see a high-level team throwing to much NIL $ at him but in this day and age who knows

would assume his OSU has declined since his arrival as one of the most sought-after HS recruits

How do OSU fans truly feel about the 165 spot, both/either Stiles or Birden? Not my squad so I'm not as clued in, but personally very underwhelmed by both and would not wager a bet they AA at the weight. Not suggesting that you were saying that, just using it as a chance to pose the question.

Seems like they should bump both Stiles and Cannon up. To me, you'd have two very likely AAs there. Both looked big for the weight.

Double-bumping Stiles from 149 to 165, you have one mid/high-AA (Cannon) and one R16-R12-7/8 sort of guy. Maybe Stiles will surprise at 165? It's happened before.

Cannon may have wanted to, but there is the, 'self discipline rap.'

I think Stiles will take the spot. Better mat wrestler with more offense. Birden appears to be a more defensive type. I say a chance to AA because 165 is one of the weaker weights this season. MM effect.
