First, I think these guys at this elevation don't do wrestle offs in hopes of making a world team.   It is just a necessary step to get there.   They have every confidence they will make it.

Second, Bo is training to be a World Champion period.   He is training to win the wrestle off and then to win the WCs.   That's how these guys tick.   If not, then they are not going to prevail in the wrestle offs and if they do, certainly not the WCs.   He will train normally and peak at the right time for both.  That's the way these guys roll or they wouldn't be where they are.

You entirely missed my point. I'm in no way suggesting that Bo isn't going to be ready for the wrestle-off. I'd expect anyone in his position to be ready. My point was that the length of time they are pushing back these postponed matches is just too excessive.

You don't think prepping to make the world team and being in that process from April until the end of September is a bit absurd? Of course Bo is training the right way to make the team and for world's because he doesn't have a choice. But I would much prefer to know whether I'm more focused on training for Worlds or NCAAs from July-September rather than spending 4 months waiting for a wrestle-off. It's an egregious amount of time from when they should have wrestled to when they are actually going to wrestle.

Returning medalist or not, if you need an extra quarter of a year from when you were originally supposed to compete for the spot, you can wait until next year. The opponent shouldn't have to "wait" to wrestle for the spot for such a long period of time.

All wrestlers (medalists and non) should be able to postpone the wrestle-off under the condition they make weight at Final X and forfeit match one (meaning the postponing wrestler must win two straight at the rescheduled date). It’s fair to both athletes and prevents any gaming (or appearance thereof) the system.

I agree. The duration of the delay seems excessive for a infection. But the Procedures do not and probably would not be able to address the severity of the injury when they state the time period allowed for the delay. I don't know the specific date but, per the procedures - "Wrestle-offs must occur before the departure for the 2026 World Team Acclimation Camp"(2026 World Team Trials Qualification & Procedures Men’s Freestyle). Not sure when the Acclimation Camp is, but given Worlds is in late October/early November, Woods still has plenty of time.

It has been six weeks since Final X.

getting so worked up about a long standing rule that literally everyone involved is aware of and understands is pretty on the nose for this place...

Why use PK as the example?  He is something like 0W-5L over the last year against the guy who has the spot at 86 KG.

I used PK because, PK is getting better and Dake is getting older (despite his bio hacking) and eventually PK might surpass Dake, father time is undefeated.   Dake was 0fer against JB until he wasn't too.

I am not saying Dake shouldn't be our rep this year, I am just pointing out that we determined our team early this year and if it wasn't a 1 year oddity, determining the team 5-6 months prior might not result in our best team come Worlds.

the leg grabbers were determined the exact same time as they have been since giving medalists protection...

Do they give medalists protection in Greco? As an American.. I wouldn't know.

That's my point..

I'm not questioning whether or not this situation is within the current ruleset. It's been 6 weeks since Final X and they aren't expected to wrestle for another 8 weeks.

I can understand why this rule would be advantageous back in 2006 when our #1 was lucky to medal and our backup likely didn't have a chance.. but it's 2026. We've had several guys that spent time as a backup go on to win gold once they finally got an opportunity. I just don't think our medalists need such a level of protection anymore.

i am so confused on why this is an issue to anyone...

how does it possibly affect anyone outside of the 2 athletes?

You do know that if a topic doesn't interest you, it is actually perfectly fine to not participate in the thread.

I don't think I did.   Knowing the rules, you must be prepared for this and that includes the training regimen you will use.  It is a long time but they have to be ready for that.   Each expects to make the team so the training is not a question and you proposed that they might want to know if they can back off a bit or whatever.   They won't was my point, and they know the rules.

Why do people complain about CP when they could just not watch Flo? 🤷🏻‍♂️

But, really, to me it’s one of those things that you see from afar that doesn’t make sense… like wrestlers not being allowed to shake hands before/after matches during the return from Covid… somehow rolling around with someone for ten minutes was safe, but shaking hands was going to kill grandma.

You're still talking about being prepared for the rules as they exist. The conversation is about whether or not the current rules make sense/are reasonable.

Also, you don't think there is a good chance that the training plan might look different if you know you aren't competing until Worlds vs you know that you have to compete at the end of September and then be able to gear back up again for the biggest competition of the year one month later?

I honestly don't think it probably matters to Bo as he's a young kid just coming onto the scene and he seems to absolutely love training and especially when your younger and haven't been in the grind as long, it's certainly less of a burden. But if this situation happened with an older athlete that has their own family, don't you think they would like to know if they could ease of the training to spend more time and vacation with their family during the summer rather than stay 100% locked-in on training all summer? Of course they would do what they have to by the current ruleset, but that doesn't mean it's ideal.

I think 10 weeks prior to worlds is the latest a wrestle off should be delayed. Expecting an athlete to be able to go through a training cycle to peak twice in any shorter duration than that coupled with the week prior to worlds essentially being for travel, weight, and acclimation seems like its just jeopardizing our ability to get the best showing out of the guys. Sure this is not something you can manage during the NCAA season but you certainly see teams who are selective with how they compete and also everyone is on the same playing field in that instance. For bo or real to peak for their wrestle off they almost have to then train through to worlds because to deload and then ramp back I am just not sure there would be enough time to be firing on all cylinders but by the same token 4-6 months of training like you have the biggest competition of the year coming up is also likely to produce sub optimal results (probably a result of real getting an infection body starts to breakdown a bit more susceptible to things of that nature)

Clearly nothing wrong with the rules as they are now…

and no anonymous forum nerd thread whining about them will make a difference anyway…

Bo wrestles in Slovakia inn2 weeks…

he then will wrestle in another month…

a month after that he will be in Vegas wrestling…

and just maybe a week and a half later he could be in Kazakhstan wrestling…

No anonymous forum nerd needs to cry fir him…

It's mildly annoying as a fan knowing Real's pushing this well past what he actually needs. In the grand scheme of things it doesn't matter at all Bo is on the U20 and U23 team he'd be training anyways. He's also the last person to complain about it. If it were a veteran guy who was really particular about training cycles at a later stage in their career we'd maybe have something to talk about

How do you know he is pushing this beyond what he needs? Have he or his team commented on his recovery? Staph is no joke, especially if it involves a joint. That being said, I wouldnt be mad if they imposed a wrestle off deadline

That was poorly worded - I don't know specifically if he is cleared just basing it off of hearsay. If that's true and he could wrestle earlier that would be the only thing I can think of to complain about but I still don't view it as a big deal

When the next 12 months of your life are affected by whether or not you make a senior world team, you will want to be as ready to go as possible…

if they wrestle in late September that will still be close to a month before they have to by rule…

seriously…

I don’t get the sense that too many on this forum can even contemplate what is being discussed…
