Is it true Ben Askren said LJB is an anonymous forum nerd?   🤔

Wouldn’t matter, Ben never was man enough to dedicate himself to Greco. He chose to join the ranks of masculine and mental mediocrity because he clearly isn’t built that different. Only the Greco guys know what that’s like. He’s just lucky LJB and the boys don’t take him behind the woodshed.

Gun to your head

Would you rather see NCAA weights align to UWW freestyle weights which would introduce a 213ish weight class

OR

For five years the only wrestling you're allowed to watch is greco

i am an idiot on the internet

I can't believe this discussion is still going on!

I used to really enjoy Greco and had some great experiences: trained regularly with a US Open champ, trained a couple times with Olympic medalists, participated in a World Team camp at the OTC,ran a club that taught Greco, etc.

I know that I am just an anonymous forum nerd, but I am not a fan of the current rules set.  Maybe I am just nostalgic, but I think 30 years ago was a much superior and I had olf heads  (Olympians) tell me that the "golden age" of Greco was 50 years ago (as far as the rule set and the entertainment value of matches.)

How about we push eight weights of each men’s and women’s freestyle and Greco? Is it crazy to think “fans” don’t need to advocate for the elimination of the sport?

Somewhat….   Medal / weight count is driven by popularity and tv ratings and global interest in the sport.   You are better off dropping Greco and lobbying for 10 Oly freestyle weights.   Now that isn’t likely to occur either but it has higher odds of occurring than getting more in both.

It’s more about getting non-traditional medalling countries to get medals at the lowest cost. Women’s Greco could do it.

A random woman from Ecuador  getting a medal in the 87KG Greco Olympics helps tv ratings how?

Would it get more eyes than a Mesenbrink winning 74kg? I don’t know. But the IOC is big on getting different countries medals.

The ioc has a popularity score it uses to rank all its sports.   It’s called the popularity index score.  That score helps them determine what to add drop.

Greco is in third from last.    They get the bronze medal for the literally least popular sports at the Olympics.    They are only above:

modern pentathlon And breakdancing.

I thought BJL said it was popular world wide.  It’s weird no one across the world is watching it either it seems

I think it’s growing… I could see it taking off in Latin America/South America if there’s a future.

I amend my comment.

We had a multi episode documentary on folkstyle on ESPN called the Cy hawk rivalry.   So you’re wrong there too.

I’ll amend it again.   There is a second documentary on folkstyle on espn

The Streak:  This gripping ESPN original documentary profiles the legendary Brandon High School wrestling program in Florida, exploring the immense psychological pressure of maintaining their historic 459-match unbeaten streak—the longest winning streak in high school sports history.

Man you are stooping pretty low in order to get people to say that there should be an NCAA weight between 197 and 285.

If these are the only two options, of course.  But in general no.   Not needed in the slightest.
