What's the point of this tax dollar waste?

So the money isn't spent on fraud in MN & CA?  🙅‍♀️

Ferris wheels are about as wasteful as fraud.  Neither is as wasteful as our defense spending though. Fat bloated pig.

Beer is wasteful.  We should not celibate the 250th with beer.

So it went up and will come down after the 250 celebrations?   We celebrate things.   According to RV, there should not have been any effort to clean up the city, clean up the memorials, clean up the pool or anything that spends money.   I think this is an appropriate expenditure to celebrate 250 years of independence, unless it cost billions upon billions.

Go ahead and get beer. Ferris wheels, fancy parades, whatever. Whatever. Buy it yourself though. Don't put it on the taxpayers.

While we are at it let's get rid of the inauguration festivities ... in fact we'd also save a lot of tax money if get rid of Secret Service after all there's a reason we elect a VP correct.

I asked the google and it said:

AI Overview
The Ferris wheel on the National Mall, constructed for the Freedom 250 celebration and the Great American State Fair, is privately funded. The organization, which was created under an executive order by President Trump to coordinate administration events, acts as an outside fundraising arm and is financed entirely through private donations.

So no need to worry about it RV.   No taxpayer dollars funding it.

Like the ballroom won't be funded by taxpayers?

Pay attention, dimwit.

You say "no taxpayer dollars are funding it" - which sounds good until we find out the opposite.

Not just once, but every freaking time.

Either you don't know better, or you are a pawn, or maybe both. (Or you are a dopey alias for Husker - same thing.)

We should get rid of snowplows.  Tax payer $s built them roads and are required to maintain them correct?  Why did we build roads where we need snowplows?  Everyone living in those areas should have their own mule & sled ... no wasted tax payer handouts!  🤨

Ok, show that taxpayer money is funding it.

Federal Taxpayer Funding: Congress originally allocated $150 million for Department of the Interior events related to America's 250th anniversary. Of this, approximately $100 million was reportedly redirected to Freedom 250 through grants distributed via the National Park Foundation. [1, 2]

Private Sponsorships: Freedom 250 has solicited donations and sponsorships from large private corporations to cover remaining costs. Corporate sponsors include companies like Lockheed Martin, Palantir, Deloitte, and United Airlines. [1, 2, 3]

State Fair Booth Costs: While organizers received federal funding, participating states were invited to build exhibits but had to source their own funding. Many states opted out or relied on private tourism boards and museums to foot their $100,000 to $500,000 estimated exhibit costs. [1, 2]

Controversy: Watchdog groups like Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility have raised concerns about a lack of transparency, citing the co-mingling of private and federal funds.

RV2, just because you want it to be true, so you can fuel your hatred for the orange man, doesn't make it so. You constantly bitch about taxpayers paying for shit that they aren't like the UFC event. Do you have evidence?

That was from AI, which uses multiple sources. Buy your own stupid ferris wheel.

I agree it isn't the best use of money but it's selective outrage. You wouldn't bat an eye if it was a democrat in the white house. It was a bipartisan committee that decided to fund freedom 250. Don't worry, it won't dent your allowance from your sugar momma.

110% incorrect. There are certain areas where govt should be spending $. Military (but we spend WAY too much on that), roads, education, protecting the environment, etc and I'm a huge advocate for making sure govt helps fight poverty, including, YES,  redistribution of wealth. I say that as a taxpayer and somebody that has actually never received any extra govt assistance (beyond using roads, etc) of any kind since college. It's simply the right thing to do and benefits our society overall in the long run.

I've never been in favor of big govt spending on parties or parades. I don't even like it when my local village has fireworks. Fortunately, my new village doesn't do that crap (YAY!!!).

Information I see on the google says only private funds did the ferris wheel.   If not, then the google has it wrong.  And the google is not known to be Trump friendly.

I personally do not see anything wrong with spending a little money to celebrate the 250th anniversary of our declaration of independence.   I think the Founding Fathers would approve.   They may not approve of Trump, or much of what we do these days, but they would approve of the celebrating the nations 250th birthday.   That's just my opinion.

You are wrong.

Doesn't matter if it's a D or an R in the White House.

If we're witnessing fraud, waste, or corruption - it needs to be called out if we intend to fix it. Every time. Period.

So you support what Doge did then?

As mentioned in the books thread, I'm reading Empire of Liberty right now. I did not realize how early on county fairs were introduced in the US. I think they are a fun piece of Americana and it's good to celebrate them as part of the 250th.

I do wish this was part of America250 rather than Freedom 250.

I am thrilled about the celebrations and anxious because it will be disrupted with troublemakers and violence (attempted or realized).  I really want to go but am not going!  Actually angry that I have to consider my safety for an otherwise awesome occasion.
