I heard.  (Im not the authority)…. somehow they have a deal with Chicago to keep the name.

Pritzker doesn’t wanna give tax breaks to billionaires…. Even if they generate zillions of dollars of taxes for the state.   Even though Pritzker is a known tax cheat.  I have a hard time being mad over this.   When I was younger I Would have been more angry but the city county and state messed this up as bad as they could… like they tried to mess it up.

Stadium projects never return the claimed monetary benefits to taxpayers. There may be non-monetary reasons to give teams what they want, but economic reasons don't stand up to scrutiny.

Zero NFL teams pay property taxes of the magnitude Cook County projected the Chicago Bears would face. [1, 2, 3, 4, 5]
If the Bears built a new $2 billion stadium in Arlington Heights without a tax break, Cook County’s assessment model would subject them to an estimated $72.5 million annual property tax bill. In the entire history of the NFL, no franchise has ever paid a property tax bill that high.

The Vast Majority of Teams: Most NFL teams pay $0 in property taxes because their stadiums are publicly owned by city or state stadium authorities, making them entirely tax-exempt

And nothing. My take is cities and states should not bend over for these teams, but 1) I don't particularly care for any pro sports and 2) I'm not a politician who will have to go before voters who do care about pro sports and explain why I let a team leave over a few billion in incentives.

Cool. Nothing to do with what I said, as is your wont, but cool.

How did republicans cost the city the bears.   That’s what tax fraud billionaire Pritzker is claiming now.

They didn't. It's nonsense from a politician who doesn't want to accept blame for upsetting voters.

Agreed. Taxpayers get fleeced, all so owners and players can rake in millions. And a handful of local businesses. I say good riddance to those MFers. Packers can leave WI too. They shouldn't get one red dime from us.

New thing is now taxpayers are also shelling out $$ for college NIL or salaries. Not directly but that's what its for in the end.

This is the MO for Seattle, King County, and WA state.   There is a massive wealth exodus from here and they are all in denial.   There are more houses on the market than normal, and they are in denial.   There is no flight.   There is no problem.   Starbucks gone.   Amazon, leaving Seattle.   Meta - laid off 1400 here in Seattle area.

Why?   1.   There is a head tax on big companies.   x bucks per employee and it isn't cheap.   2.  Capital Gains tax on capital gains.   This in a state where a graduated income tax is unconstitutional.   So capital gains tax was declared an excise tax by the courts.   That decision made Bezos leave the state for FL to be closer to family.   Funny that FL doesn't have such a tax.   3.  Millionaires tax.   People making a million a year will get taxed 9.9% after the first million.   The day that was signed Harold Schultz left and Starbucks with him.   Starbucks is setting up in Nashville.   Schultz in FL.   This tax is obviously unconstitutional.   The State SC has consistently said that income is property and the state constitution states that property tangible or intangible, cannot be taxed at different rates.  My property tax rate is the same as everyone else's on a state, county, city, school district, and fire protection level etc.   The Ds here have clearly stated that this threshold of a million in income will be lowered.   An income tax is not unconstitutional.   A graduated income tax is unconstitutional because the rate of taxation is different.   So businesses are closing and/or leaving.

And the politicos here say why is our revenue down?

I honestly think it’s willful ignorance.   They don’t care tbh

Things have been good for so long based on systems set up so long ago, people have forgotten the reasons they exist. So they can't imagine the world that isn't undergirded by liberal democratic capitalism.

It's why whenever they do the "what would your job be on the commune" engagement bait, it's always "poet" and never "garbageman." Everything that works about society is invisible to them, and they think it always will because they have no frame of reference for it not working.

The vast majority of tax incentive packages don't stand up to scrutiny.

I've lived in conservative and liberal areas and they all do it the same way: Tell you that they want to diversify the tax base as a reason for approving whatever project, approve said project but give tax abatements for a minimum of 20 years if not in perpetuity, raise taxes on homeowners. Rinse. Repeat.

You have people defending billionaires who shop at state legislature to pay no taxes and you have people clamoring to tax them to death. There's a middle ground to be had, but that's not politically expedient.

Our system is out of whack.

Of course he should. So should the Bears. So should 3M. So should Ameren. So should Citigroup. So should Halliburton. So should Palantir. So should Tesla. So should Disney. So should Trump. So should Bezos. So should Gates.

This list goes on and on.

Again, the system is out of whack.

He illegally avoided taxes by taking out all his toilets in his house to declare his home un-liveable….. to pay a zillion less in property taxes.   The others paid what they didn’t didn’t pay “LEGALLY”.

pretty big difference.
