Cause he got caught not cause he isn’t a dirty cheater…. Those taxes go to the school kids who can’t read he cares so much about

If J.B. Pritzker had refused to repay the property tax breaks, he could have faced severe financial penalties, civil lawsuits, or even criminal prosecution for perjury and tax fraud. While he quickly chose to repay the $330,000 to diffuse the political crisis during his 2018 gubernatorial campaign, the official county report explicitly highlighted violations that carry steep legal repercussions.

Stipulated he was wrong to do it in the first place. I'd just like you to come off it because it's 8 years ago and not incredibly relevant as far as I can tell.

Do you think the tax breaks or building stadiums ever make the returns promised when they are asked for? If so, do you have any studies that back that up.

It’s kind of what you say when you are a political and get your hands in a cookie jar.   Is a thief who gets caught still a thief.   Yes he is

Do you think the tax revenue for Chicago / cook / il for the next forever years they are now forfeiting to Indiana is a good thing ?

do you think these crooks won’t raise taxes to compensate ?

I think your premise is false. Stadium projects never deliver the economic benefits promised. I think they would have to raise taxes to compensate for what they would have to give to the Bears regardless.

Maybe they should have done more to attempt to keep The Bears, but not for economic reasons because I believe the promises of economic benefits are lies. I am open to anything you can provide that says that any stadium project has delivered on the economic gains, but I think especially Football stadiums are fool's gold.

It isn't? If I implied that it was, I'm sorry for not being clear. I'm not trying to blame anyone but rather explain a policy position I believe in.

The vast majority of tax incentive packages don't stand up to scrutiny.

I've lived in conservative and liberal areas and they all do it the same way: Tell you that they want to diversify the tax base as a reason for approving whatever project, approve said project but give tax abatements for a minimum of 20 years if not in perpetuity, raise taxes on homeowners. Rinse. Repeat.

You have people defending billionaires who shop at state legislature to pay no taxes and you have people clamoring to tax them to death. There's a middle ground to be had, but that's not politically expedient.

Our system is out of whack.

I think tax incentives are unconstitutional under the 14th Amendement's equal protection clause.  Legislatures and local authorities do not have (or at least should not have) the authority to single out individual businesses or industries for favoritism.  Broad policy should be the basis of competition,  not individual or targeted incentives.   Just this change sends 90% of lobbyists home.
