Same.   But I thought the new test was 50 chinups and 100 pushups in 15 minutes.   I think I could do that at my advanced age.  if I remember the fitness tests in elementary school, that would give you an idea of how advanced my age is.

To be fair to our good friend headshuck, the thread was about America always being great, while needing improvement, and the return of the fitness challenge is most definitely an improvement.  But, as is par for the course around here, it very quickly turned into a thread of whining and topics such as Obama, fraud, racism and jealousy…which I got admit how it suddenly took that turn kinda shocked me….immigration, and Obama’s books, even though sometimes we’re supposed to stick on topic, and sometimes it’s a message board so we shouldn’t.  Guess it all depends on comfort level with the topic.

Not really anyone wanting to acknowledge America has always been great or talk about the fitness challenge. Just…right off the rails. But as to the topic, this is a good thing. A really good thing.  Maybe the most long standing, positive impact to come out of the administration.  It will impact not only children directly, but also parents, schools, and comminities as they relate to children.  And without question, higher level of fitness and capability positively impacts mental health, confidence, social well being, work ethic, independence, self accountability, and other traits that develop well rounded people who work, contribute, and get things done.

Maybe if your high horse was a bit shorter people would engage with you in a better fashion.  Maybe work on that

Wow, your feathers sure got ruffled there. Do you disagree this is a really good thing, and with the reasons I expressed why it’s a really good thing? Do you disagree America has always been great, even though always needing improvement, and this initiative from President Trump is definitely and improvement?

Why so offended?

Oof.  So emotional.

If you could get past your emotion and utilize those reading comprehension skills, you would be able to see it wasn’t whining (whining was what I described, you really need to come up with your own thoughts) but rather it was displaying, with specific examples, how, in fairness to our good friend headshuck, there wasn’t exactly already a thread on this topic, but rather a thread on two related topics combined and how it quickly diverted.  You’re a big stay on topic guy…right? 😂 Care to discuss the topic??

Agitation that comes quickly and unnecessarily is a clear sign of addiction.  Put the phone down for a while.  Enjoy the family.

Nighty nite.

No emotion.  I don’t care.  You lecture from your high horse all the time and people don’t engage with you because of it.  Maybe it’s you.  Who knows boss.

Well, just today, on this topic,  I’ve been engaged with by headshuck, jross, ionel, braves, 3pt, mspart, etc, and you yourself continue to engage with me…alot (particularly for not caring) So are you saying that…wait, what exactly are you saying?

Take a break, a few breaths, and get back to me on that later, when you feel better. Maybe you'll actually be able to discuss the topic then.

The original sin was Rasta’s title: “My biggest issue with ‘MAGA’ has been…”. People responded to the critical framing rather than the content about childhood obesity. Complaining afterward that the thread ignored the fitness topic comes across as tone-deaf.

A better title would have been: “Childhood obesity is one area where we really do need to Make America Great Again.”  We’d still shout other areas that need improvement, but the discussion would have stayed more productive.

If you pretend the title didn’t exist and just reacted to the obesity content, then yes… sometimes the clearest view is from atop a high horse.

The fitness test is a start. If the news treated it like a national priority, tracking kids fitness levels, school compliance rates, and weekly progress, this country would improve almost overnight. There may not be a higher priority right now.

“Sin”?  Well, that reaction is certainly…interesting.

However the title was neither deceitful nor critical, but rather, in two related parts and as clearly laid out in the original post. First, the tile was written as is due to a number of people claiming I take issue with anything and everything Trump/MAGA just because it’s Trump, even though I’ve started multiple threads here in favor of a Trump initiative when I see it, and this initiative being another example. The two related parts, as clearly laid out previously, being that America has never not been great, but always in need of improvements, and this initiative is a great example of one of those needed improvements. Just because the title gets some sensitive panties in a bunch does not make it a ‘sin’, (kinda scary that taking issue in any way anything Trump is reacted to as a sin) and given the overall point of the post, it’s completely fitting. I can’t help if some people gets so offended so easily, nor should I try.

My post in this thread was neither complaining nor whining, but rather, and again as clearly explained previously, an argument toward Braves comment about there already being a thread, in favor of headshuck starting a new one in fact, because the original thread went off the rails quickly….which it did.  If defending headshuck’s thread by presenting specifically why the new thread was warranted is seen as complaining an whining, well….in both of these instances I’m reminded of terms such as “safe spaces” and “snowflakes”.

How it landed matters more than what you meant.  With your history of MAGA degrading commentary, the title read like a negative piece... and that is what the thread became.  100%... we are all a bunch of sensitive panties in a bunch, including your rebuke, others here, and me a thousand times before (and probably again tomorrow). Original sin is a metaphor related to how your title poisoned the discussion.

And now this thread is off the rails again because we cannot just stay on point.  It's all criticisms of each other here and there and whatabouts.   Just kids in adult bodies...

Last year I could only do 1 pull up.  Now I can do 17.

The most pull ups on my youth baseball team was 1 last year.  Now it is also 17, with multiple getting 10 and almost all getting at least 1.  I incorporated the presidential challenge into a strength and nutrition program over the winter for that youth team...

That's excellent for those kids.   I used to do 3 sets of 20 pullups in college.   Can't do that now, but I do 3 sets of 8 pullups now.   I figure I could do 10 sets of 5 pullups and 10 sets of 10 pushups in 15 minutes.   I have been in PT for bad shoulders so not pushing that just yet.

I wouldn’t have guessed you were a feelings matter, facts do not kind of guy.  What I meant is precisely what I wrote.  But now it makes sense, the only thing that matters is it didn’t land in some’s comfortable space..

I digress.

The 5 ball youth players who committed with me a strength and nutrition program have seen a huge boost in confidence. They now have real-life experience to relate to when we discuss improvement happening over weeks... not minutes. My youth team is now a legitimate batting threat from top to bottom of the lineup.

---

Dead hangs and pullups have helped my bad shoulder to the point that after 18 months, I was able Monday to catch a men's MSBL game and throw moderately hard again.  I discovered the improvement by accident and later confirmed its science.  Previously the band work PT didn't do much for me... I probably could have done a better job with consistent stretching... but the dead hangs.  Man oh man that is working.
