Don't know if he could "not recall" getting the tattoo but there are multiple sources of him stating he was drunk at the time. There are multiple citations of hateful views, shitposting through 2021, and he knew what the tattoo meant well over a decade ago.  No citations indicate that he was a nazi supporter, just incredibly stupid and unfit for office.

Looks like Abu Daqqa the journalist was killed in 2023 and Israel didn’t claim that he was Hamas at the time, simply that “remaining in an active combat zone during exchanges of fire "has inherent risks." Oh and probably worth noting that he was killed while reporting on the bombing of a school.

There is also an article where the IDF stated they killed a Hamas “head of aerial operations” in 2024 with the same name, but looks like that’s a different guy and there is nothing about him claiming to be a journalist (which Israel will usually call out).

No I’m comparing the soldier to the right’s description of Renee Good, where many said she was so stupid that she deserved to die.  That was the majority conservative opinion I saw, of course the most stupid conservatives thought she was trying to kill the DHS officer.
