But he ain’t beating the great 125 lbers including last year’s champ from Michigan. Nor s he beating Sebastian Rivera at his prime at 125!

Except for the tilt yesterday, McGee was dam close to even with a gassed Lee! I suspect Lee may have trouble at BT’s or nationals if his opponents scout the match yesterday! Wear Lee out and hang around till the third period!
Even the Purdue kid or Cronin may have a chance!

Glory on Saturday Night would be a legit test for Lee given his knee situation this season

Glory would be smarter to wrestle Lee on Fri night, will he be smart enough to throw the correct number of matches to secure the 4 seed?

Woah! @ 184... Princeton's Dugan beat Loew (coming back into the lineup after injury) dec. 4-3

D3

Cornell is thrashing Princeton after 5 matches and I think the Princeton coaches wanted a win sent Glory out at 125 v Ungar.

Will there be another vision quest a la DeSanto who took out Lee in his only high school loss in the final at States?

Will there be another Larry Owings, who took out Dan Gable to give him his only college loss in the NCAA finals?

Will there be another Rulon Gardner who took out Aleksandr Karelin (one of the greatest wrestlers ever, who had a 13 year winning streak) in the Olympic finals to end the Russian's career?

Will there be another Mario Lopez (aka A.C. Slater) in "Saved by the Bell" who .... (what the hell did he do anyway)?

While Gardner over Karelin was impressive and covered well at the time, not sure it was a bigger upset than Slay beating Satieve in freestyle.

A.C pinned Marvin Nedick October 18, 1989.

Then

Pinned Briggs Nov 23 1991.

The Valley is still talking about it

He took out the rival NY blue singlet guy 3 weights above him. Know your wrestling history

Spencer Lee has had these types of matches every year going back to his freshman year. Even in 2020, when he seemed to be at his best, he gassed against Gutierrez of Chattanooga and famously failed to bonus Jack Medley.

He's always been fine in March. Though you never want to see your 3 time champ gas after the 1st period, Pat McKee is a 2x AA and couldn't do nothing. Even Jore Volk was able to score a takedown on Lee in the 3rd. I guess that's progress.

I'm not concerned about his gas tank. I am, however, mildly concerned about the presence of the 2nd knee sleeve. There also seemed to be more intense wrapping present underneath the sleeve. His mobility also seemed off. HR and twitter are aswirl with rumors of "illness going through the room". Hopefully that's all it is.

Thought Lee wrestled high school in Pennsylvania?

I don't think McKee was close.  Even at the very end with Lee at his most gassed he took his best shot and Lee just swatted him off with a whizzer.

Lee looked like himself during the pin streak and I think would have handled any of the above just as he dominated Suriano in their national final.

The issue is going to the bigger brace followed yesterday by him showing noticeable gimpiness with the right knee.  That's what moves him from 95% sure winner before yesterday to something less - based on concern that the leg could get worse and he could then be vulnerable over 5 matches in 3 days against the best in the country.

... well I know next to nothing

As Donald Rumsfeld (a former wrestler by the way) famously put it:

"There are known knowns. These are things we know that we know. There are known unknowns. That is to say, there are things that we know we don't know. But there are also unknown unknowns. There are things we don't know we don't know."

Karelin almost lost a match right before that, at the 1999 world championships. His opponent had his hand raised. It was later overturned after an appeal.  That was the process back then, you could pay for an appeal that something improper happened during the bout.

Was the overturning justified? I don't know, I don't think any footage exists. It was probably a no score type match.

There is an illness in the room every time Spencer looks vulnerable or loses. I imagine he is on the precipice of his 4th mono infection.

Iowa fans are the biggest snowflakes in all of sports. The reality is that Spencer is an all-time talent who has had too many major injuries. His knees are shot. And he is absolutely vulnerable after the first period. He is the Mike Tyson of Mike Tyson’s Punch Out! It’s almost impossible to get out of the first period against him but if you do your chances of beating him goes up drastically.

His knee injuries are why I don’t think he will ever be a successful international guy. His knees are already done. It’s a shame because a healthy Spencer could win an Olympic gold. He’s that good.
