This ought to be fun....again, so what?  You call it whatever you want, it doesn't matter...nothing changes the facts of life.  There will NEVER be a time where everyone is born into the exact same "privilege", as you put it...still not sure what that is except people are born into different situation every single day since the time of first man and that will never stop.  Even if they are I can 100% guarantee you won't get the same outcomes just as Rasta indicated.  It is absolutely amazing that you are in support of trying to control every single person's situation that they are born into and to make it "even"...you seriously believe that is even possible?? LOL

As for the comment about "fewer resources for the privileged classes", again you can't be serious?  You truly want to "hold someone back" simply for being born into a situation they had no control over being born into??  Seriously??  You are admitting that you are all for oppressing a group of people so, in theory, another group of people can "get caught up"???  That is going to make our culture better??  Holy crap man/ma'am/they...are you even comprehending the things you are writing?

You don’t have to “make it even,” but for example I think it’s fair to acknowledge that a poor kid from the inner city could be smarter than a rich kid from the suburbs despite having a lower SAT score or worse grades, since the rich kid has access to private tutors etc, or the poor kid might have to take care of a younger sibling and doesn’t have much time for homework.

The main issue with affirmative action in college admissions IMO is it being based on skin color when it really should have been based on household income.  With blacks being more likely to have lower household income, I think it would have had a similar effect.  But what probably ended up happening a lot was wealthy black families being the beneficiaries of affirmative action.

From my experience, you have to be dirt poor in order to qualify for any substantial financial aid, so the only options is scholarships or grants. They are out there and it's a lot of work but most of the time doable. There are specific awards for minorities too.

Ok...I acknowledge it...so what...do you and others need to acknowledge the situation that I grew up in as I can probably guarantee it was way worse than yours.  Should I have gotten more, or you have gotten less because of that situation?  The answer is NO!!!

Not to mention you are talking about affirmative action in college which was not the topic...the topic was "privilege" and TPT's weird obsession with making it a huge point and I asked FOR WHAT...what does it matter in the actual facts of life that are never going to change (ie., people will always be born into different situations)?  He then rambled on about holding a group of people back (oppressing them) so that another group of people could have a better chance (at what I am not sure)...I called him on it, and he went into shut down mode...then you chirped in about affirmative action for some reason?

All racism is bad. It's that simple, including to 99% of liberals.

Another strawman for @JimmySpeaks

My point is privilege is the reason for affirmative action, IMO it’s the main outcome of people trying to do something about privilege, or perhaps more accurately, do something about those that didn’t have privilege. I don’t think anyone should be “held back.”  But I don’t see a problem with giving the people that have been held back historically (pretty much everyone except white males) a little boost.   But many white males seem to think that means that’s discriminating against them.

The thing I never understood about affirmative action was that it assumes only minorities are poor and need preferential treatment to get a job, college admission, etc. Also the other side of the coin, there are well off minorities that are still getting preferential treatment as well. That is why I have never been a supporter of a law based on the color of your skin that you have zero control over, unless you want to be Michael Jackson or Sammy Sosa and change it.

Affirmative action is a topic of its own if you ask me.  This whole narrative of "privilege" in its current form didn't rear its ugly head until the recent DEI push under Biden.  Those of us in corporate America had to take seminars and training specifically on "privilege"...very recently (i.e., within the last 10 years)...well AFTER affirmative action policy.  As for your take on affirmative action, if people other than whites are being given, as you put it, "a little boost", it absolutely inherently at the expense of "whites"...how would it not be?  You cannot solve equality and oppression by oppressing another group...you just can't.

The recent prejudice and behaviors against white males is shitty regardless of whether they meet the Webster 'oppression' definition.  Unfairness is wrong no matter who it happens to.  Acknowledging white men face unfair treatment DOES NOT subtract from black progress.
