Upsets:

Spratley over Seymour

Stanich over Ech

Cornella over Hardy

McNeil over Was

Robideau over Larkin

(Is #5 over #4 really an upset?)

Special shoutout for the Soldano Swan Song.  I thought his career was over when he didn't qualify at B12s.  But, he got the last at-large at 184.  He decided he ain't done just yet.  He's got at least 2 more matches.

(Did not want to let me cut and past for a minute, stressed me out)

Alright well, for my morning coffee upsets…..

Shoot I’ll go ahead and predict  all of them, cause I got the time,

125

Lightening is just too consistent, Mean Dean hits the backside with a 4pt loss.

Spratley is just better, and has better offense, winner by 3

Moran and Volk is an absolute toss, I would favor Volk in the regular season, heck Volk looked incredible at the Conference Tourney, but man Moran crushed Bouzakis last night under the lights, and Volk looked a little tight ….. Give me Moran, with momentum

Ventresca has only lost to Volk this year, he’s beaten Spratley, Robinson, and a host of guys in between, I’m sure Seidel adds to his development, but….. give me McGowan, despite his losses throughout the year. Pressure is on Eddie Ven…. And McGowan has some solid offense before he gets tired and scared midway through the second. I don’t think Ventresca catches up, 5-4 Mcgowan with VaTech fans yelling at their screens for Stalling-1 to force OT.
133
Jax by domination

Seidel by domination, I think both Jax and Seidel are just a scramble/motor level above Larkin (who plays the same game, just not as well)

Blaze over Ayala, I don’t think it’ll be a blowout (who would?), Ayala has been here before, but Blaze just has that Ice in his veins, another nail biter, but Blaze advances.

BYRD the cagey vet gets it done. Nothing against Davino, it’s a coinflip but I think Byrd finds a way before he sails into the sunset.

141

Mendez just owns Vombaur, tech or pin

Stanich is too solid, tough to score on, I don’t see how Ech wins without back-points which he’s not great at getting.

I really want to pick Cornella, but Hardy is just reliable, even though he scares you a few times a match

I am so scared for Vega right now, Bailey is wrestling well, but you still see that fear in his style and face, when the match gets exhausting. Vega (Scrambling) is absolutely exhausting and you can’t let up at any point throughout the match.
Vega for the win

149

I don’t see how Swiderski beats SVN they’re pretty similar, I can just see SVN going and scoring when it gets tough, and Derski, hasn’t shown a great ability to play defense well at the end of matches. I think SVN will win, but I live in Oklahoma….. Casey Swizzzz for the win! GO POKES

I think Young will get this done, another Oklahoma guy, couldn’t make the starting line-up for the ‘Boys so he transferred. I think he’ll be great in this pressure situation because he “sends it” offensively, and I’ll always take the guy trying to score when everything is on the line.  He’ll AA

McNeil is so solid, but just somehow so unimpressive, the Wasilewski kid should’ve lost several times to Rathjen, but he didn’t, I think that was his opportunity at lifelong regret, but he somehow won. He lost to Mcneil last time here as a Freshman, but he’s a year wiser. Give me Wazzzzzzzzzzzilewski

No faith in Valencia once the match goes to the mat. Joy, likely by domination

157
Duke
by domination, he’s just too solid, and too confident, doesn’t seem to get pressured. (Cannon did impress against Cardenas though)

Robideau, I think he learned from the Big-12 finals, it’ll be close but I think he gets a lead and just becomes impossible to score on

I picked Shapiro to win the weight, but I hate this match-up, I think Watters brings a level of strength to this Shapiro scrambles, that Meyer won’t be able to match…. I think Watters wins, but for my bracket’s sake. Shapiro in a tight one

I guess Antrell? Webster is a tough out for everyone (with a few random head-scratching blowouts) I just think with 3 matches standing between he and a title, it’s hard to pick against Taylor.

165

Mesenbrink by domination (nice showing by Hepner so far)

Ruiz, good for him, I was looking forward to he vs locked, but Alvan got it done. Ruiz is too scrappy here

Caliendo should have little trouble, I don’t think they’ve ever wrestled, but I think Caliendo is better everywhere.

In big matches, it’s tough picking against Joey Blaze (great showing by Denny, give me Blaze)

174

Haines I’m not sure how you could pick anyone else (Mantanona has looked great though) that dual match-up, brutal

I think Kennedy gets it done, I saw a little fear in Kharchla yesterday, Kennedy leads the season series 2-1…  semi-finalist

So, I think Minto is the biggest threat to Haines, I also don’t think Minto is ever in danger of being caught in stupid, funky, weird positions. Having said that, I think Gaitan just doesn’t care, and his stupid style is made to give good guys problems in pressure spots. Gaitan for the W

I’ve been a Steed fan since he was in JH, was going to pick him against Ruiz, definitely picking him against Wask, by fall.

184

I enjoy watching Allred wrestle more, but Welsh wins, probably won’t be pretty but 2 takedown match likely

I’d love to pick Soldano again, but I just don’t see how he wins. Mantanona by a lot.

McEnelly is on a mission, he wins

So, here’s my thoughts on Ferrari vs Sinclair, I picked Sinclair to win the weight. I think Sinclair is a better wrester all around than Angelo. I just fear that like Sinclair is too laid back, like “Nationals, it’s no big deal” almost like he’s in ancillary character in the Ferrari story… Nobody will feel any kind of anything if Sinclair goes down, more like an “Awwww Shucks” which for whatever reason, makes me think Ferrari pulls it off….. having said that I like everything about Sinclair, his style, his lack of anger, villain, whatever you want to call it. I want him to win this, and then win the whole thing…. GIVE ME SINCLAIR I hope he lets it fly.
*Note I feel like it’s either Sinclair wins by 5-6 points or Ferrari, does the ole 1-1 rideout jazz. But I’m pullin for Sinclair. *

197

Barr, just absolutely one of the most dominant seasons I’ve seen at 197  (Awesome tourney for Posada though, he’s really become a menace)

Novak ends Hawks run (but also awesome job by Hawks)

Little is too dependable, I think it’s reasonably close but Mcdanel doesn’t quite make it.

Merrill will stall/dominate his way to the semis and maybe wrestle for a National title, well maybe he’ll get a chance to be Runner-up.  (these 2 wrestled early season and it was a nail-biter, won by Merrill) thank you Cotton for owning Elam like you did.

285 (Los Chicos Grandes)

Bastida is too much for Kueter, size, speed, you name it.

I would love Juan Mora to beat AJ, but it just ain’t going to happen. Probably just a riding time point? 2-1 or something? Ferrari

Ghadliali is just wrestling so well, I don’t see a path for Catka, but awesome performance yesterday.

UPSET TIME
Trumble is good, Trumble wrestles like a lighter guy and Heavies just can’t deal, this clearly negates Doucet’s strength, so by all accounts this is a good match-up for Trumble, and Doucet heads to the backside and has to beat probably Taylor or Feldman to AA….
Not so fast my friend. I understand praising Trumble, and his wealth of high-level experience, and his stellar year with convincing wins over Mullen, Pitzer, Feldman, Catka, etc…  I understand they he’s been better for Doucet for his entire career….. I just feel like everyone is forgetting, that I……. really really really want Doucet to win! Screw your facts. He’s only lost close matches to Bastida and Ferrari this year, He beat Mullen convincingly, heck he teched that Stoner kid we were watching scare Feldman yesterday.  I’m not saying it’s likely, I’m just saying its destiny!

WAR DOUCET

Thanks for letting me spray facts at yall! Sorry for all the typos, and sorry I thought anyone cares what I think! Enjoy The Day! CHEERS!

Oh it wont let me Edit but worth noting, I mentioned a few "Head Scratching Blowouts" for Webster.

I said Head-Scratching because I think he's so solid against everyone, my memory was just that he took a few weird L's
I just looked at his season...
He's only lost to:
Duke by 2
Taylor by 2
and  Shapiro by 1...  (WOW)

I was completely wrong to say he has any "head-scratching" losses this year.... what a solid season .

Is that your inner Buckeye speaking (both my college roommates were fro Ohio, so I'll allow it)
I think Davino is unbelievable and wildly underrated, even though everyone thinks he is the best.
I don't see him placing outside of the top 4 for his entire career. I just think this is a "Freshman in a big spot" situation....

Kharchla, I just don't trust his offense or focus. I think he ends up shutting down and losing by a takedown. I feel pretty confident about that.

I actually think Byrd, shocks the world and makes the finals, but we will see!

Byrd is a great wrestler. In his interview he said he was going to call quits after 6 years of wrestling. He said he was ready to move on. The coaching staff convinced him to comeback for this year. I just think Davino is highly motivated. He hasn't won a title yet. Davino also has the benefit of wrestling Mendez and Steiber in practice every day. Davino is a redshirt freshman, so he has had 2 years in the Buckeye room.

Kharchla has had a tough road in college. Lots of injuries and surgeries. I actually met him and his father the last time the NCAA's were in Cleveland at a small restaurant across the street. This is the healthiest he has been since he has been in college. I think the match is a tossup. But I still think Kharchla wins in a close one in regulation.

On your last statement on Byrd shocking the world, I wonder what kind of odds Vegas would have on that. Beating Davino, Blaze and then Jax would be an amazing feat. 500 to 1 probably. Byrd is really nice guy and I wish him well no matter what happens. I take it you might be a Fighting Illini guy.

Naw brother, Oklahoma through and through. Hard to deny Jax is likely the favorite.
Davino and Blaze just don't have that high-scoring mentality at this point. (but they are phenomenal in tight matches)
I honestly wouldn't be surprised if both Blaze and Davino drop matches to Ayala and Byrd....
Both matches would be tight in any situation ( from dual to pre-season) but with AA status on the line, and a possible trip to the finals. The pressure is immense, and I can see the situation tipping the scales in favor of the elder-statesmen.

No, I dont like anyone at the weight to beat  any combination of, Davino, Blaze, Jax in a row. Hell  throw Seidel in there  and pull one guy out and say like Byrd, Blaze, Seidel, or Ayala, Seidel, Davino. any combination of those 6 names Jax, Davino, Blaze, Byrd, Ayala, Seidel,  I wouldn't favor any of the guys to win 3 in a row, it feels impossible.

After Big 10s, I would have guessed after the top 3... "the field" would be at plus odds.
Picking Byrd specifically, man, I dont know.... he was ranked #1 up until last week, i bet it wouldnt have been as outrageous as you'd think, probably  25:1... maybe less though

Anyways CHEERS!

Are you old enough remember Keith Stearns?

I feel like I remember Stearns vs Deanna from back in the Shultz era, I'd be 100% lying if I told you I knew how many times he AA'd, but I'm 92% sure he as a plaque on the wall in the OU wrestling room.

What about this man? OU legends?

Yeah, I know he's way older than me, I was born in 84, but I do love all things wrestling history, memorizing stats and matches is my thing (maybe I'm autistic)
