How often do wrestlers cut this sort of weight? I would assume this cut doesn’t happen too often, and when it does or probably doesn’t end well.

I realize hindsight is always 20/20, but what were he and the coaches thinking?

when you're cutting that much weight that regularly you just almost have restrict as much as possible, really delicate balance between holding your weight down and starving/dehydrating yourself at that much weight to drop, tough to do for months on end

Hydration and eating substantial calories for the first time in a while. Mostly water weight

IME water weight is around 8 lbs for dehydrated to hydrated. Meal is 1-2 lbs. I haven’t cut to the extreme that these guys do though. I can see how your body just goes MORE when it gets some

I don't think its the cut. He wrestles like a meathead (which is why he isn't a 133), once he a guy you had to go through to get a title and everyone was preparing for him it didn't go so well.

Is there a match where he collapsed like joey slaton did against Nick Fanthorpe? Or did he just start losing and we play the game where tOSU is the only team that cuts weight?

Before/after NCAA’s

I don’t think you got me to sign off on this photo bub! I don’t know who the skinny guy is on the left. Every one recognizes my glasses on the right! And when I was in decent shape.

That’s Christian Bale, actor. Known to lose/gain massive weight for roles.

I think the better question is how did he and coaches not have his weight figured it out before March?

Great question

Great question

I've already answered this.

It's because they had it figured out for the first time in October and then made him hold it all season FFS!!!

In HS, they would make you make weight for the first half of the year, then after the new year they gave everyone an extra 1.5-2 pounds or something. The point I think was that you are growing and it’s not easy or logical to sustain a harsh cut like that in the midst of body growth and development, hormone production, etc. Holding a harsh cut like that for half the calendar year is extremely difficult. That’s why body builders cut the way they do up until the day of their show and then pack the weight right back on, also why they go through bulking and cutting seasons

I was just as shocked when he made weight for the first competition. I said then it was a, "bad move."  Then to hold it all season...:classic_dry:

Making weight back to back days in October doesn't mean he was effective.

Hindsight being what it is, he made weight back to back days at NDI but didn't wrestle the morning session either day so he had a lot of time off the scale.  He didn't wrestle 2 duals in a weekend until the end of the season.   I know you are closer to it but from the outside they didn't act like they had it figured out.  If he was holding his weight all year, why didn't he wrestle on Friday/Sundays until the end?

I am sure they thought they had figured out in October and I am sure they thought he would be good in March.   We will  never know if they actually had it figured out in October and they obviously didn't in March.

Sure as hell doesn't. Who said it did?

The fact that he may have been fifteen over on a Friday or a Sunday is f'ing stupid. He was holding weight all season just to be within fifteen...

What a dumb thought to have in Oct.

Thank you! Point is, it’s well-documented how hard a sustained cut like that is for an extended duration. Not to mention the mental side of things

I don't need convincing. I thought it was stupid from the beginning...:classic_dry:

I said it was too much weight and he couldn't/shouldn't do it last summer.

It didn't make a difference in the Buckeyes outcome. Now we have a 141 who is going to struggle just like a sucked out 125...

Sorry for not reading much more, but did Bouzakis say he's going 141 next year?  Better start hitting the gym yesterday if that is the case...

I'll be honestly, when you said "they had it figured it out in October" I assumed you meant that the coaches thought he could effectively wrestling 125.
