  1. Lol It sounds like this is a before and after weigh ins day 1
  2. I'll start by saying I really appreciate your response, your insight is on point. The coaching isn't going anywhere, the recruits are fighting hand over fist to get in. I started the thread knowing I guess in the back of my mind what the answer was, as we all do. DT is the most immediate answer and even then it's a waiting game even for him, as Mphillips has correctly alluded to. (I'll keep my eye on VT, early signs are great and I'm a hopeless romantic for parody) BUT!! The immediate competitor in me wanted to hear how all the tremendous assistants lurking around we all know and love wanted head jobs, combined with some huge hires about to be done competing got us there first, sigh. Pipe dream. P.s. I call b.s. on the game/fun stuff too, lots of people have fun but there's a reason they are winning Natty's and it ain't a trip to disneyland after the season. Taylors close...
  3. The post title says "let's skip" the Penn State will lose because. Meaning let's skip the scenario that has to have them implode to lose. You simply keep reading what you want. I'm not sure what the victim thing is about, your the only person worried about how I worded things without providing any input. On top of that I apologized for my rookie mistake. I get some people can't be pleased no matter what. But you act confused and still answer what I'm asking perfectly, after trying to insult me twice. If I'm rubbing you the wrong way I'm not trying to, but something tells me a lot of people rub you the wrong way Have a good day sir.
  4. Wow great points. The aspect of the adjustments wasn't on my initial radar. There are tons of great coaches but I think after you bringing this to my attention that may be the biggest obstacle. A recent example is the adjustments made for the blaze-davino rematch at us open where blaze won. Weeks earlier jax beat davino, and davino beat blaze. Different style of course but that's a great point. Thanks for your input.
  5. I'll take your word for it, as I never seen Fried wrestle in person. He was said to have an aura in the gym from all accounts I've received. Phillips was a guy who I thought in his prime (if he even ever reached it) that you would need 2 kids at the same time to beat him. True specimen lol.
  6. I'd like to see Chris phillips vs ed ruth. If ykyk
  7. Well you could skip it to read the next one, and you said the same thing two others said at almost the same time, so..it works? On a serious note if the hill you want to die on is me making a mistake my first post title then you got me man sincerely, I apologise But since your here, does DT take over (how long) or could the stiebers, metcalfs, martinez of the world combined with a couple big hires be enough to disperse the talent and not beat a different dead horse of whose taking second?
  8. Sadly I think your spot on. That would just lead to more of who is fighting for second, which I was hoping to avoid lol. Thanks for participating
  9. That makes a lot of sense. Moving forward I'll clean it up and make it easier for people to chime in. Thank you sir
  10. Don't take this as being argumentative, because I agree, the title was just me being a noob so I get the focus. I do however recall the hype Ohio State had after the first half of the season leading up to their dual. Obviously injuries happened and no one EXPECTED them to win. If the community gets that excited over a longahot (still top 5 btw) then we clearly, in my opinion, need diversity of assets. So, does DT simply replace them as a dynasty over time, or do more schools go get them guys I mentioned above in hopes to replicate the DT situation which will hopefully bring back a real discussion for whose going to win it?
  11. Deja vu, I think everyone is focused on the wrong part of what I wished to discuss. I suppose that's what I asked for lol
  12. I get it I didn't think I was going to be on trial. But it only leads more into what I'm asking. Which path gets us back to having a serious conversation about it again? And in my defence jimmy c alone does some type of doomsday scenario on a yearly basis lol.
  13. I wish I was better at talking. And your absolutely correct. That's essentially my point, what is it going to take for it to be back to a serious convo about the team title race. Although I must say there's usually at least 1 knuckle head that perks up if there's a penn st injury or rumblings start where "if these other 4 Penn State guys get hurt too" ect.
  14. OKST. Yeah my bad, Okie st. Is simply a nickname for the school in my own head lol.
  15. Certainly not many. I would say the like of Dake, burroughs, spencer lee could have a similar impact at the right school. There's guys like Metcalf also waiting in the background to resurge a program. But to your point there's not much to choose from.
  16. No, perhaps I worded it incorrectly I apologise. My plea is to not have to talk about whose fighting for second every year because the talent gets dispersed to the point where we're back to seriously discussing who will be team champ and not have to come up with doomsday scenario to get penn st. to lose.
  17. As a new poster, but not to the sport I'd like to hear serious opinions about this. The wave of David T and okie st. Can't be denied despite the ever present gap between Penn St. and the rest of college wrestling. But it has me thinking, is David Taylor and the Oklahoma st situation the changing of (a very future) guard when eventually cael and co. Retire/split up/stay too long? Or is this the necessary blueprint colleges will start taking (hiring a young hungry decorated guy with a following) seeing the immediate recruiting and wrestling impact he has had. Essentially redispursing high end recruits across the board and again not knowing every year who is going to be wrestling for second. (Please wrestling gods!) It's a silly post I get it, and probably discussed to the point of annoyance. But it has been every year since I can remember one team is going to "catch them" because XYZ and the second place team is still behind by 40 plus pts minimum. How long and which path does it take to unseat them consistently as a dynasty?
  18. I want to see Forrest vs blaze now to see where they stack up between the trio. But something tells me this is a 2 man race next year (and possibly the next couple) based off the last couple months. Awesome matches! Spoke way too soon as they wrestle tomorrow! Gulp but I think the trend sticks
  19. I'm no advocate for his behavior by any means It's getting a bit much. I do however question his support system. To me it seems like someone trying to be better genuinely, they simply don't know how. I'm not going to pretend to know the details of his upbringing. But I know what I've seen the last few years. Being raised the way I assume he was, and bouncing from place to place can make it difficult to find a stability mentally. I get his age, and the money he is probably making, so he has every excuse to not be a punk. but I've seen young men like this before and when they don't believe they can, or want to be better they turn full heel with a vengeance. Just my 2 cents. (Which is probably worth more to keep nowadays) Lol
  20. Thank you!very much And your spot on with the learning, there are some folks on here who I have no doubt are highly educated in the sport of wrestling. I may not be the most knowledgeable, but I was lucky enough to grow up with some dudes who are! Happy to be a part of it as I said I've been lurking for way too long
  21. I think it's mostly people like myself, followed for years but finally have a reason good enough to finally chime in. The kids i trained are all gone and I'm too old, so I have to be involved somehow lol. For others it may be as simple as a topic that grinded their gears enough, or disgruntled parent (due to conference and NCAA increased involvement).
  22. By being as healthy and rested as possible physically and mentally, while still being able to wrestle hard for 7 plus minutes without fatigue overtaking technique. That's my take anyway. Good luck finding the sweet spot.
  23. Stalling maybe needs to be written more literal to make it more consistent i.m.o it would create more room for scoring and action. If the rules award the active wrestler stalling and gaming the current rules would be less of an issue (X) Amount of legit TD attempts in a row, other guys is stalling. (X) Amount of steps backwards off whistle (and not just in the last 30secs.) (X) Amount of times you were first to reach outer zone (freestyle boundary type of deal) Amount of time someone has been holding a hold/ride without back points, or the time between bottom guy gaining a base. If all that's dumb then just make first period TDs 3 and the other periods only worth 2 again lol.
  24. Congrats to the buckeyes, pretty good tourney for them, par the course for this time of year. Not to stir the pot with a first post, but how close is it in Cleveland if welsh stays?
