The 3-Point Takedown: Friend or Foe?
pmilk replied to Wrestleknownothing's topic in College Wrestling
It’s obvious that the elimination of RT at the high school level has had a negative impact on mat wrestling at the collegiate level. How in the world can college coaches build on the skills and strategies when there is little foundation from which to build? Why did they eliminate it? I have asked folks. No one can really tell me, but here’s my guess; Too many coaches at that level don’t know or understand the intricate mechanics of top and bottom mat wrestling. We are reluctant to admit that it’s too hard and frustrating to teach and learn for a large majority of hs coaches. It’s easier to denigrate it, lower the standards, and do away with it, than to put in the time and effort to learn it and be successful. So, we change the rules and we dumb it down so it gives more folks a chance and makes "coaching" easier. Bottom wrestling has suffered as a result. The three-point TD doesn’t create more wrestling. It now takes less wrestling to score more points. Point inflation pacifies the freestyle clique. It doesn’t make the sport any more interesting or give it mass appeal, which it will never achieve anyway. The dog whistle complaint is that mat wrestling and ankle control is boring and if you do catch an ankle or drop down to a single to maintain control, it’s stalling and, therefore, a detriment to the sport. The real detriment to the sport is not coaching an athlete on all the various techniques that he has available in any given situation, both offensively and defensively. As far as stalling goes...Matches are only 7 min and we can now have an entire match where both wrestlers start neutral. There's a lot of time spent jockeying around, measuring, feeling things out, etc. To expect two wrestlers to go balls out for 7 min is not reasonable. In virtually every sport, keeping and protecting a lead, aka-stalling, is part of the strategy. There's plenty of it in freestyle. What's the entire purpose of being in the down position in free? TO STALL. Flatten out like a starfish/post-it note and wait a 5-7 seconds. The irony is, that strategy is encouraged not criticized. Smart wrestlers, get ahead, stay ahead, protect their handywork and smart stall...plain and simple, like it or not. -
um, we politely asked them to self deport...

Iowa needs action now (2 proposed solutions)

"otherwise the power balance is irreparably tilted toward Penn State and Ok State." Have you not been paying attention since 2011? At least where Penn State is concerned? As for OSU - they have to beat Iowa in a dual first. -
please please go there wear your gay pride shirt

I only opened this thread cause thought it an announcement about Jimmy C moving on to bigger and better forums ... carry on.

Eh, it's your call. We had a thread about the biggest threat regarding Christian extremists and it turned into a prolonged discussion about Pol Pot in which "El Luchador," linked a 1998 article from his depth that he didn't read and claimed that was proof the "Leftists" were the real threats. Then insisted that Ethnocentric Nationalists aren't part of the far right nor re fascists. So basically, he thinks anyone who is bad is a "Leftist." You can if you'd like, but I don't think it'd actually serve a purpose. Jimmy would reply a LOT, I wouldn't read them. Scout would just post something unrelated from X and the people on the right who are honest would just ignore it or like mspart, 'they're all bad.'

The FBI and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) have consistently identified white supremacist, Christian extremists, and anti-government extremists as the most significant domestic terrorism threats in the United States. While these ideologies are often associated with Christian nationalism, the agencies have not specifically labeled "Christian extremists" as the primary threat.hsgac.senate.gov+1hsgac.senate.gov+1 Key Findings from Federal Assessments FBI and DHS Threat Assessments: Reports from 2021 and 2022 highlight that racially or ethnically motivated violent extremists, particularly white supremacists, pose the most persistent and lethal threat. Is he also an antisemite now? Suddenly there was a big switch among the MAGA right. Despite Trump supporting Israel, there's a lot of "Isreal controls the United States," talking points suddenly(well, since Oct 7th 2 years ago).

I have two very close relatives. One is 25 years in the FBI. My Uncle had long hair, he was a hippy, kinda a stoner. But he shaved his head and got a hat like Walter White had in breaking bad. He looked JUST like him. He was traveling with my Aunt in their RV and they stopped in New Mexico and he looked just like Walter White with the Gotee and hate, shaved head. So he took a couple pictures and posted them. His son called and made him take those down because they were glorifying a drug dealer and would reflect badly upon him. Not long after that, he re-posted a meme with Ellison from Minnesota and Tlalib and Omar(both of whom had 72% or more in their races) and quoted Bin Laden about how "we will take America down from the inside." Now...I don't like Tlaib or Omar all that much(Ellison was a good, reasonable man IMO). And then his own personal post, "Just like Bin Laden promised, they're taken them down from the inside. How are we allowing this to happen. The other one was in the Navy 20 years and very high ranking, he talked about approving Afghan interpreters getting Temporary Protected Status...(which we're taking away and sending them back to get slaughtered)... He never said how much say he had, but he just talked about a few guys YEARS later and how they helped(he was in Intelligence, he wasn't on the ground so far as we know). But he agreed and he liked it. Yes, I think Muslims are a bigger threat in the Middle East due to a number of issues, partially how the US has used them, how they've been to War, how they've interfered, but mostly... they come from theocratic Countries. I've found that Muslims in the United States are just happy to be here.. And the statistics bear it out, the Christians IN AMERICA are far-far more likely to want to take down the Country or commit acts of terror.

Charlie Kirk is a racist anti Semite so I'm not surprised.

It happened at PSU and OK ST. Everyone knew it had to happen, but the rabid fan base resisted till the end. Moving on from a legend, John Smith, made it harder. When it was finally done, a breath of fresh air spread over the program and the fan base reacted with pent up joy. Posters have opined for years that the coaching wasn't getting the job done, and the sycophants were there to aggressively defend. The great times and the associated feelings are hard to forget. When will a change at Iowa come? It's more inevitable than ever and will be better for Iowa and the sport.
-
Sorry maybe deserves a separate thread, but Charlie Kirk basically just said NYC shouldn’t have a Muslim mayor because of 9/11. Nothing will convince some of these people that not all Muslims are out to kill them.

Sorry, don’t mean to distract from the women’s discussion and I am all for adding more women’s teams but how do 1/3 of the D1 women’s programs not have a men’s team? That’s crazy. I would hope Tarleton State is trying to push for both simultaneously.

Lets START by remembering these are ESTIMATED deals. We found out after Angel Reese and Caitlyn Clark, the greatest women's CBB player of all-time was making less than the "Bayou Barbi." Now, my issue with this list; You're taking a YouTube video that is ranking the 10 BEST players in the NFL draft. Look at the ranking of the 10 BEST every year...and then look at the Mock Drafts. You'll have as many as 4-5 QBs going in the top 10 picks. BEST and Most important are very different... but this guys list is also just AWFUL. This is just a lazy list off ChatGTP but who are going to be the highest paid? 1-QBs from the The top programs(or at least the most well funded program...UT is the #1 Athletic Dept in the Country in Revenue). LSU, Alabama, Ohio State, Michigan, Miami, Tennessee, Clemson...the typical powerhouses. 2-The BEST of the BEST at other positions. And when I say these are just estimates, I know Kayden Proctor, the LT from Alabama is at LEAST in the top 10. You remember what Matt Rhule said about the poor QB play at Nebraska? "If you want me to go out and get a good QB, I'm going to need at least 2M or he's going to go somewhere else." Nico Iamaleava is a clown. He tried to force Tennessee into paying him more and ended up stuck in the portal and I think he ended up at UCLA. And this list by the time the draft comes will DRASTICALLY change. Sanders was high on this list last year. Right behind Travis Hunter. This list is bad as Nussmeier is the favorite to go #1 as Arch Manning is expected back and is leaves off the QB from South Carolina...Lanoris Sellers or something like that...a Jalen Hurts type QB with a better arm(as a College QB). But Miami has UGA transfer Beck. Drew Allar at PSU has been one of the top prospects since HS. Clemson QB Cade Klubik Arch Manning since he was one of the most highly pursued QB in CFB History... THOSE are going to be the guys who get the most NIL money. It was Caleb Williams two years ago. That you think this is about a social media following... I mean, I don't know if you're a CFB fan, but that's ridiculous. No...I don't. I think it's a ridiculous question, but again, that's a NICHE sport, but...what Women have dominated endorsement deals for the last 20 years? The Williams Sisters and Simone Billes. So...I guess I do know the answer. Yes. They would. Who was the top paid Women's athlete 3 years ago? The year Caitlyn Clark, the VASTLY superior Basketball player but less attractive athlete or Angel Reese? Angel Reese...she was making 1.5M despite the fact she is...so bad at anything but rebounding. Dunne is a COMMPLETE outlier. Lets go to last year; So #1 QB from the MANNING Family. #2 Black QB from the Sanders family(but also from Colorado which doesn't have the money the top programs have). #3-The first non-QB. Travis Hunter. Why? Because he was the best player in CFB last year. #4-The starting QB for Texas. #5-the #1 overall pick in the NBA draft and one of the most hyped Basketball prospects in years(domestically, Wemby was up there with LeBron in the last 20 years). #6-Black QB from Alabama #7-Black QB from Miami #8-AsianQB from Oregon #9-Samoan QB from UT...who cost himself money. #10-Carson Beck...who was lured away by Miami(who has the largest NIL collective). #11-1st Rd draft pick Jaxson Dart #12-Drew Allar QB PSU-The #3 overall recruit and a top 5 projected draft pick #13 Garrett Nussmeier QB LSU and the projected TOP PICK in the draft. This should be obviously by now. This year... who are the top? Manning remains #1(3rd straight year). Beck, who'd led UGA to SEC Title Games and the CFB playoffs took the money from Miami Jeremiah Smith, a FRESHMEN last year at WR DJ Lagway, a guy who sat behind Graham Mertz last year LaNorris Sellers, another FRESHMEN who is in the top 5. So #3, #4, #5 are black. If you really don't think this is a meritocracy... you're living in the past. This isn't the 1960s Alabama team refusing to play Black CBs. This is a multi-billion dollar industry. These programs...and the people running it WANT TO WNI. You're going to see this change year to year. Why was Carter Starocci and Gable Stevenson the highest paid Wrestlers? BECAUSE THEY WERE THE BEST(well...Gable ended up losing, but you get the point).

InterMat's Class of 2025 Recruiting Rankings are way overdue - but also will be released very soon. Before they are posted, take a look back at some recent recruiting history. Team recruiting rankings from 2021-2024. Surpisingly enough, only six schools (Iowa, NC State, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech) have made the rankings in all of the past four years. Penn made it once as an honorable mention and then was ranked the other three seasons. It's hard to consistently bring in ranked recruiting classes every single year. Will any/all of these appear in the 2025 version?
