  1. On what timescale will Ukraine not win? Let's say the current conflict ends in a ceasefire. Ukraine and the international community will never accept Russia annexing huge parts of Ukraine. Ukrainians living within the occupied territory will carry out attacks on Russia within that territory and possibly in Russia itself, supported by Ukrainian intelligence agencies. It will be no different than the U.S. "winning" the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, only to eventually realize the futility of trying to occupy the territory. Putin is 71 now. Do we really think that 10-15 years from now, whoever replaces him will care about continuing to occupy Ukraine?
  2. What's up with the contradiction between the first post of this thread where you say, "We did not turn up the frequency of ad placement or anything," and now saying that every single page we click is going to have a new video pop up ad that automatically plays? It's your right to run however many ads as you'd like, but this is by far the most ads I've ever seen on a college wrestling forum. For me, the site is unusable on mobile (chrome or safari). What is wrong with sticking to banner ads? This is really the only national wrestling forum, so I'll stick around and post on desktop, but I'm worried this move will cause a number of people to leave and just not post here anymore.
  3. How soon we forget that half the Iowa lineup was suspended for gambling.
  4. The issue is not just the placement of the ads. The pop up videos are extremely laggy. I don’t think there will be many posters who stick around without an ad blocker if the ads are pop ups/auto play videos.
  5. Who cares about high school results? And it's basically cheating if you're 19 winning against 14-18 year olds.
  6. Holding a kid back for academic or behavioral issues can make sense in certain cases. Holding somebody back purely for athletics simply doesn't make any sense. If the point is to provide an advantage for athletics, it makes much more sense to either do a gap year after graduating or something like a PG year.
  7. Who better to coach Fix to beat Gilman than Gilman himself? Gilman knows Gilman better than anyone. If anything, Fix having Gilman as his coach is unfair for Gilman.
  8. I think he is purposefully being edgy to get attention on social media. Who knows what he actually believes, but the point of the video is clearly to draw attention to himself. I'm sure he'll release some other video soon enough with some other edgy claim. My take is that a student should never be held back for the purpose of athletics. It does make back to hold students back who can't keep up with the rest of the class, especially during earlier years. But I do think it is fair to recognize that stringent month cutoffs for class year don't really make sense. Some states base the cutoff point on the school year, others on the calendar year. I don't have a problem with kids who are born in July through December having the option to start the following calendar year (e.g. so that they turn 18 prior to or during their senior year). 19 year olds shouldn't be allowed to compete in high school sports though.
  9. I use both, and the site is unusable on both in its current state. On my phone currently though and am seeing the pop ups.
  10. Is there a reason you can't just go back? The site is currently unusable without an ad blocker.
  11. https://www.buffalobills.com/news/bills-sign-16-players-to-2024-practice-squad Nope. There is zero shame in not making the practice squad. He is undersized and has no football experience. A lot of these practice squad players are there because they would be ready to fill in if there is an injury.
  12. The Bills coach is a huge supporter of wrestling/wrestlers. He has had JB speak to the team multiple times. They’re the only team that would potentially roster him on the practice squad. That’s not a criticism of Gable-it’s just the reality of the situation.
  13. Ok, I guess then we will still be between steps 3 and 4 of the cycle if that happens. The preseason tape was not impressive at all, and there’s no chance he becomes an NFL DT, but their coach likes wrestling a lot so might do it.
  14. And so the cycle starts again. 1. Steveson is going to try to do X instead of wrestling. 2. People will come here and post about how it's probably a worse idea than winning world/olympic gold medals at the sport he's incredible at doing. 3. Other posters will complain and say how dare you question his dream to do X and compare him to whatever the equivalent is to The Rock and Aaron Donald in X. 4. Inevitably doing X won't work out. Repeat.
  15. Some things are worth more to your program than 10 team points at NCAAs.
  16. The motivation is very simple. What else can they do? They haven't gotten the elite recruits (since Lee), and developing their talent isn't working and is more difficult than buying it.
  17. It was great, and we were ready to win a team trophy.
  18. As the head coach of the defunct Folkstyle Sim League CSU Bakersfield squad, I would like to officially distance the simulated CSU Bakersfield program from this decision.
  19. Do you think the Republicans should hold another convention? It's kind of unfortunate that they had their entire one attacking the wrong candidate. Maybe they should just do it again and possibly pick a different VP?
  20. Do you really think MMA is better today than it was 15-20 years ago?
  21. What's the deal with calling this thing the Craig Jones invitational? Is Craig Jones an active BJer or is he being honored in some way?
  22. The idea that MMA is accurate as to "who the best fighter really is" is nonsense. There are tons of arbitrary rules in MMA, just like there are in boxing, kickboxing, and slapfighting. Not to mention that the way UFC is set up in pay and how they advance contenders incentivizes their "fighters" to put on a show ahead of anything else. Fight with a boring, yet effective style? Good luck advancing in the sport. Fight like an entertaining idiot and you will get an easy path to a title shot. Obviously, I'm not criticizing that approach from a business standpoint, but the fact that UFC was purchased by WWE is not a coincidence. You are watching a show, not a combat sport that is any more legitimate than any of the others. As to what the pinnacle of combat sports is...The answer is obviously boxing in the 70s. But even MMA 15-20 years ago was 10X the product that UFC is today.
  23. Are the Russians eligible?
  24. Has there ever been a wrestler in USAW history that is as competitive as this guy? He has had nothing left to prove for a decade and still goes out there every chance he gets. Without a doubt, the greatest American wrestler of this generation.
  25. MMA is not the pinnacle of combat sports, at least not the MMA that exists today in UFC and is modeled more after WWE than actual sport.
