  1. Would like to see Logan Cole squeeze in there somewhere, but definitely a bright future with these incoming guys! On Sinclair…and I’m dumb when it comes to world/oly weights…but does 74/84 put him in a better place for international competition than staying up at 197?
  2. I personally thought this was one of the better Flo Films and that’s saying something because I have enjoyed all of them (only wish they’d make them more often!). I related to this a lot and it’s very hard for people not in recovery to understand how truly difficult it is. And the importance of having support around you. His wife is a saint, as are many. The one thing I do think is that OSU wasn’t good for him. Not the weight cut, but…and I preface this with no personal knowledge, only what I’ve heard…the “culture” and stories of team members being partiers with no consequences. Whether true or not, I wonder how different things would have been if he had stayed with Penn State and bought into that culture? An addict will always find a way and truly has to hit rock bottom to stay sober…just wonder if that would have happened sooner for him if he’d chosen a different road upfront. But of course, hindsight is always 20/20. Happy for him and his family and glad he’s in a good place. Thanks Flo and Chance for sharing the story!
  3. I bet Kraisser is really happy with whoever took this photo and put it on the recap article on Illinois' website
  4. Fight Pass is streaming college wrestling? For real??
  5. Disagree. TBH, not sure how much Alirez has wrestled over the past 18 months, but missing time against D1 opponents matters, and Mendez always competing gives him a leg up, imo. That said, Alirez looked insanely good against Edmond of Mizzou (Mizzou fan here so only time I've watched Alirez this season)...it's going to be a fun match to watch. Do Mendez and Alirez meet up before NCAA's? I don't think so, but could be wrong. If not, I hope it's on opposite sides of the bracket at NCAA's, with Beau on the Alirez side. Not to say Beau deserves that, but I view Alirez at #3 until he proves otherwise...
  6. What are the odds he picks a school other than PSU, tOSU, Iowa, or OSU?
  7. That would make sense. Can’t imagine they’d do that to Truax after just pulling him in for his last year of eligibility.
  8. This is the answer, imo. But...why would they have wanted him to go 184? They recruited Truax from the portal...why make him cut more if Starocci can make the weight and it helps his Olympic plans.
  9. No Surtin or Rocky. Edmond had a national champ...should have finished several of those blast doubles. Keegan and Steed looked good. I'd like to see someone else at 133; Crawford maybe? Also think McCallister should get a shot at 149...Gioffre doesn't impress me. 157 and Hwt. are going to be frustrating this year.
  10. Thanks for that. So the potentials are: 125: Pool A: #2 Anthony Noto (Lock Haven) #12 Kysen Terukina (Iowa State) #17: Brendan McCrone (Ohio State) #20: Spencer Moore (UNC) Pool B: #18: Noah Surtin (Missouri) Prospect: Luke Lilledahl (Penn State) 133: Pool A: #5: Evan Frost (Iowa State) #12: Nic Bouzakis (Ohio State) #21: Ethan Oakley (UNC) #24: Gable Strickland (Lock Haven) Pool B: #2: Nasir Bailey (Little Rock) #8: Aaron Nagao (Penn State) Prospect: Braden Davis (Penn State) ??? 141: Pool A: #2: Jesse Mendez (Ohio State) #24: Wyatt Henson (Lock Haven) Pool B: #3: Beau Bartlett (Penn State) #9: Josh Edmund (Missouri) 149: Pool A: #7: Anthony Echemendia (Iowa State) #8: Lachlan McNeil (UNC) #13: Dylan D'Emilio (Ohio State) Pool B: #2: Shayne Van Ness (Penn State) #18: Logan Gioffre (Missouri) #19: Jordan Williams (Little Rock) 157: Pool A: #9: Paddy Gallagher (Ohio State) #11: Paniro Johnson (Iowa State) Pool B: #4: Tyler Kasak (Penn State) #23: Sonny Santiago (UNC) 165: Pool A: None Pool B: #1: Mitchell Mesenbrink (Penn State) #9: Brevin Cassella (Binghamton) #15: Cam Steed (Missouri) #19: Joseph Bianchi (Little Rock) 174: Pool A: #3: Rocco Welsh (Ohio State) #11: MJ Gaitan (Iowa State) #20: Joshua Ogunsanya (UNC) Pool B: #1: Keegan O'Toole (Missouri) #2: Levi Haines (Penn State) 184: Pool A: #18: Ryder Rogotzke (Ohio State) #20: Gavin Kane (UNC) #21: Evan Bockman (Iowa State) Pool B: #1: Carter Starocci (Penn State) #13: Brock DelSignore (Little Rock) #14: Colton Hawks (Missouri) 197: Pool A: #18: Luke Geog (Ohio State) Pool B: #3: Rocky Elam (Missouri) #5: Stephen Little (Little Rock) #21: Lucas Cochran (Penn State) Hwt: Pool A: #3: Nick Feldman (Ohio State) #6: Yonger Bastida (Iowa State) Pool B: #1: Greg Kerkvliet (Penn State) #13: Cory Day (Binghamton) #16: Josiah Hill (Little Rock)
  11. 141 and 174 are fire if the right teams dual each other!
  12. Was looking at Mizzou's schedule and see that they are participating in the collegiate duals in Nashville this season. I looked through the schedules of the schools that participated last year (tOSU, NC State, Northern Iowa, Lock Haven, Cornell, Iowa State, Pitt, Little Rock) and some have this and some don't. What I found interesting is that Little Rock's schedule shows that they wrestle Penn State and Binghamton during the duals. Is Penn State competing in this event this year? Wondering also if it's still limited to 8 teams. Teams with the collegiate duals on their schedule: - Missouri - Ohio State - Little Rock Returning teams that haven't released their schedule yet: - NC State - Northern Iowa - Lock Haven - Iowa State - Pitt Returning teams that aren't returning based on their schedule: - Cornell Ranked/Prospect wrestlers possibly in attendance with this info (Rankings based on Flo's 8/28 rankings): 125: #2 Anthony Noto (Lock Haven) #8 Jakob Camacho (NC State) #12 Kysen Terukina (Iowa State) #17: Brendan McCrone (Ohio State) #18: Noah Surtin (Missouri) #22 Trever Anderson (Northern Iowa) Prospect: Luke Lilledahl (Penn State) 133: #2: Nasir Bailey (Little Rock) #5: Evan Frost (Iowa State) #7: Kai Orine (NC State) #8: Aaron Nagao (Penn State) #12: Nic Bouzakis (Ohio State) #24: Gable Strickland (Lock Haven) Prospect: Braden Davis (Penn State) ??? 141: #2: Jesse Mendez (Ohio State) #3: Beau Bartlett (Penn State) #5: Ryan Jack (NC State) #6: Cael Happel (Northern Iowa) #9: Josh Edmund (Missouri) #24: Wyatt Henson (Lock Haven) 149: #2: Shayne Van Ness (Penn State) #6: Jackson Arrington (NC State) #7: Anthony Echemendia (Iowa State) #13: Dylan D'Emilio (Ohio State) #14: Colin Realbuto (Northern Iowa) #18: Logan Gioffre (Missouri) #19: Jordan Williams (Little Rock) #23: Finn Solomon (Pitt) 157: #4: Tyler Kasak (Penn State) #6: Ryder Downey (Northern Iowa) #8: Ed Scott (NC State) #9: Paddy Gallagher (Ohio State) #11: Paniro Johnson (Iowa State) 165: #1: Mitchell Mesenbrink (Penn State) #9: Brevin Cassella (Binghamton) #15: Cam Steed (Missouri) #18: Derek Fields (NC State) #19: Joseph Bianchi (Little Rock) 174: #1: Keegan O'Toole (Missouri) #2: Levi Haines (Penn State) #3: Rocco Welsh (Ohio State) #11: MJ Gaitan (Iowa State) #15: Jared Simma (Northern Iowa) #17: Luca Augustine (Pitt) 184: #1: Carter Starocci (Penn State) #2: Parker Keckeisen (Northern Iowa) #10: Dylan Fishback (NC State) #13: Brock DelSignore (Little Rock) #14: Colton Hawks (Missouri) #18: Ryder Rogotzke (Ohio State) #19: Reece Heller (Pitt) #21: Evan Bockman (Little Rock) 197: #3: Rocky Elam (Missouri) #5: Stephen Little (Little Rock) #16: Mac Stout (Pitt) #17: Wyatt Voelker (Northern Iowa) #18: Luke Geog (Ohio State) #21: Lucas Cochran (Penn State) Hwt: #1: Greg Kerkvliet (Penn State) #3: Nick Feldman (Ohio State) #6: Yonger Bastida (Iowa State) #9: Isaac Trumble (NC State) #13: Cory Day (Binghamton) #14: Dayton Pitzer (Pitt) #16: Josiah Hill (Little Rock)
  13. I'm sure this has been discussed a million times and I just haven't been on the board regularly when it was, but where did folkstyle come from, and why does the US not eliminate it and focus on freestyle and greco from a young age, in HS, and in college? I believe every other country does this. If we did, I can't see how we wouldn't be the best in the world with the number of athletes that participate/US population vs. other countries.
  14. To the OP's original question, my opinion is that iron sharpens iron from an active athlete perspective, so if we could have everybody in one place (ie. Parris training with Snyder), that would be best. But, you're not going to have all of the coaches in one place, which is the other side of the coin from (active athlete) practice partners. Terry isn't going to NLWC, but is he the best coach for some of the smaller guys (Lee, Gilman, Ramos, etc.)? Or is it just because they have experience with him from Iowa? Would Vito get to the next level if he were working with Terry? Would Yianni benefit from training at NLWC? Gable won gold training at GWC without elite level active athletes to practice with. Really hard to say what the right formula is. Does anybody think that Dake took a step back with DT not in state college anymore to practice with, at least for the last few months? I know they practiced together a lot, but Dake had the same result in Tokyo when DT was still there, so not sure if that was a factor or not.
  15. Any thoughts now that MFS 57 and 86 brackets are out?
  16. I was trying to remember two other guys and finally found them. Dallas Bailey was a relatively big name out of OK, but the main one I was thinking of was Eric "Mr. Florida" Grajales...
  17. Marsteller was a major one, as I remember. 4-time undefeated out of PA. I still wonder (especially with his later success) how his career may have gone differently not being at OSU. The Alton brothers were big names, as was Metcalf and Nickerson. Close to home for me, and was a BIG deal out of the Missouri wrestling scene at the time, was TJ Hill. https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2000-mar-16-sp-9420-story.html
  18. If you haven't already, I would get a subscription to Flo and watch some of their films. You get a sense of the Brands Bros, Kolat, etc. history and younger years in those specific films (ie. Terry, The Story of Cary Kolat, Mocco, Cormier,etc.).
  19. So Coleman just picked up his family and moved to Stillwater from NC; family is there, they want to lay down roots. I assume he's financially secure from UNC and OSU, Central Oklahoma (the nearest school) already has a solid HC. Kish was recently hired at OU...maybe a 1.5-2hr drive; doubt they plug him there. My guess is he takes over a local HS program (hopefully not Stillwater HS...Ethan was his college teammate and has it down...PS...Ethan was my HS teammate, and I know how fantastic he is, so a little biased here, but I'm not wrong). I pray Coleman doesn't hang it up at the college level.
  20. I wonder if DT will get Hamiti over the hump to finish strong. Man did he look good against MM until the comeback.
  21. 125 - Spratley 133 - Hughes 141 - Jamison 149 - Williams 157 - Travis 165 - Fish 174 - Hamiti 184 - Plott 197 - Carroll/Surber/Merrill 285 - Hendrickson
  22. Good point. And maybe the indication was “come back as AHC and show us you should get the job”. He likely thought the same as I did…”If I’m there and show I can improve the team, they have to hire me, right?”. Still a big gamble. But the DarkEnergy’s point, there may have been other factors for him leaving UNC (ie. Personal reasons).
  23. If he’s not completely crazy, there had to have been. Anybody that would take that gamble with a huge move for their family and a D1 coaching position on the line, without some sort of guarantee, would be nuts. My guess is that OSU had every intention of making Coleman the next HC and made some sort of guarantee. Then, DT didn’t make the Olympic team, so they thought “Hey, we’ll throw the barn at DT and pay off CS to make it all go away and move forward with the only person who can compete with Cael.” Shady af, but I guess business is business. My opinion, anyway…
  24. Gilman, Kennedy, Cox. Penn State killer there…
  25. Touché, at least from me (re: the assumption of a presumptive heir). I went off of the info at the time, but I can admit when I’m wrong. Damn do I feel bad for Coleman, though…
