2025 Transfer Portal
The_KC_Godfather replied to Indiana-Hawk-Wrestling-Fan's topic in College Wrestling
I’m sad to see Rocky go, but I get it. Little money to be had from wrestling post-college, so gotta take it when you can. I’d like to see him head to Iowa honestly. Willie and Basch were talking about an insane lineup with Caliendo dropping to 57, can’t remember who they said at 65, then Arnold at 74, Ferrari at 84. Now if you add Elam at 97, holy smokes! -

If Gilman’s wife’s family is near state college, it makes sense. Other than that, it would make zero sense to leave Stilly with the season they just had and the firepower they have coming their way over the next two seasons. Hope it’s not true, but family comes first (especially kids growing up around grandparents). -

But does he know that?! Lol. In all seriousness….does he look at what Taylor did this year with Hendrickson and wonder if DT could do the same with him? Not saying he could, but does Feldman consider that? I don’t know. He should at least explore it… -

Any more rumors about Feldman or Mirasola’s possibly entering the portal? -

AJ to UNC is bad news simply because of what Kohl said about the women there. I wonder if his commitment to God includes celibacy... -

In today’s economy, that ain’t much… In all seriousness, of those things you listed (housing, meals, tuition, etc.), what portion of that can be covered by the school via scholarship? I’d imagine Nasir Bailey gets tuition + ??? anywhere he wants to go, so would think things that scholarship money can’t cover are what’s being packaged up. I also wonder if some of the donor cash is tied to incentives similar to the NFL (Rush for 1,000 yards, get an extra $2mm…Win B10’s and get an extra $50k). -

Not really. Bailey maybe, but I’m shocked Mizzou even entertained Williams with the off the mat stuff. I’d prefer to ensure we don’t lose Mendoza’s commitment by adding a Bailey. -
Will AJ be able to maintain his religious persona?

Welsh to PSU...Haines to OKST?? 2026 174lbs final, Taylor gets his revenge... -
I agree with what MizzouFan01 said below about Hawks...fringe AA. BUT...to your second point, I would have thought he would have developed much more by this time at Mizzou. I looked at the staff from their "title run" season in 14/15 and one of the main things that stuck out was that they don't have a strength and conditioning coach anymore (it was Larson at that time). They also had Clemsen and Johnston, who's coaching styles may have been different than the current crew. I thought Sammie Henson was on staff then too (that may have been the previous year when J'Den was a freshman). So I don't know...the injuries have seemed to pile up more and more and it makes you wonder if the training methods aren't working (or are overworking). It's either that or the worst luck I've ever seen (Surtin, Gioffre, Steed, O'Toole, Hawks, Rocky all had injury time). It seems to me that they need some new blood on the coaching staff. I'm guessing Maple is the heir apparent when Smith decides to retire, so don't think he's going anywhere. I love Dom and think he's great. Maybe the answer, as MizzouFan01 said, is bringing in a lightweight coach (Alan Waters, anyone?). And I think they need someone focused on strength, conditioning, and wellness. Nitzel did have some bright spots this season and I was pleasantly surprised. He'll be a RS SR, so maybe they do RS Stillwell (although I'm sure he's raring to go after spending the last year at the OTC with J'Den). I personally hope to not see Kade Moore in the lineup ever again. I'm being too harsh, but he is so frustrating to watch (almost as much as Gioffre and Conway) and I've given up at this point
-
Just my opinion as I have no insider info, but I could see the lineup going one of two ways next year. 1) They RS all of the incoming freshmen and save them for the following year (in which case I think they’d use Walkers RS). Or 2) they let Mendoza/Rath/Bambinelli/Stillwell out of the cage right away and hope for a strong national tournament before they lose Hawks and Elam. They could of course all use a RS, and Smith usually does unless you’re KOT…but with some of the HEW we saw this past weekend (uhemm Iowa), I wonder if we’ll start to see more true freshmen passing on the RS. Somebody on another thread made a good point about how a lot of injuries are happening later in careers because of all of the scrambling and the effect it has on your knees.

MM really had zero pins?! That's crazy...

Elam isn’t leaving Mizzou. Retires or goes for the Tigers.
-
My guess for Mizzou: 125 Walker 133 Crapps (please no more Kade Moore) 141 Edmond 149 Gioffre (Ugh) 157 Conway (Double Ugh) 165 Cole 174 Steed 184 Sinclair 197 Hawks Hwt Elam What I'd like to see? 125 Walker 133 Mendoza 141 Edmond 149 Transfer 157 Rath 165 Bambinelli 174 Steed 184 Sinclair 197 Elam Hwt Stillwell

Somebody else said Paul Blart and I about fell over laughing…

I’m the first to defend Mizzou. I realize we lost Surtin and Elam, there have been injuries, and there have been illnesses. But ffs…something is not working. The entire team seems HEW. Hopefully Moore never steps in the lineup again with Mendoza coming in. Sure, he had the injury, but what is “Tigerstyle” about putting yourself in a situation to get stabbed by a bong?! Edmond was R12 last year and this year can’t even be bothered to put his foot on the line in neutral, takes his sweet *ss time coming back to center, etc. Giofree and Conway need to go. Steed (I thought) was a bright star, yet takes a step back on every whistle and gave up 2 stall points because of it. And legit seems to get hurt every time he steps on the mat. Hawks, who I love and have seen since LL, majorly disappointed at B12’s and looks like a shell of the R12 guy he was last year. And we lost Whitting (and possibly Harman) to stick with him. Hell, even Keegan looks HEW, and we know Rocky is. I don’t know if it’s the training regimen pushing to injuries, lack of motivation, or what, but something’s gotta give. Yes we have a great recruiting class, but we can’t afford to lose them because something is off. Throw a bunch of money at Sammie Henson and J’Den to come back. Pull the Miller brothers back from Maryland and Fugitt back from Wiscy. Re-establish the Askren pipeline. And ffs figure out how to stop the injuries. Penn State had what, Braeden Davis get injured this year? How do they manage to keep everyone healthy and we can’t?! Still love Mizzou and venting a little (a lot), but something has to change.

Very true

Was it just me or was Gable super calm, relaxed, and having fun during the collegiate athlete press conference? He made a comment at the beginning saying something like "I'm prepared for your questions (paraphrasing)". I'm not sure the last time I saw someone so confident and just there to have fun. Obviously KOT and Carter (and AJ) were confident, but Gable just had a swagger and enjoyment about him that was so cool. A really neat thing for wrestling fans...reminds you that this is a sport, and sports are supposed to be fun. Happy NCAA's!
-
Dude I thought the same! Carter laughed at his answers a couple of times and I was wondering if AJ would see it out of the corner of his eye. To be honest, I thought at the beginning that AJ skipped out on purpose to not sit next to Carter, but then he showed up. Made me think he just spaced on time and was a late show. Hell idk. To be honest, I hoped the media would ask him more questions to get his feedback...
-
I can't remember when it was, but there was an Askren interview where he called out Tom/Iowa for not bringing it. Something about "I told Tom to stop bringing me wimps and he didn't have anything to say".

This wins every day of the week and twice on Sunday's...
-
I'm cheap (max $25 bet), but I took: Mendez +225 Shapiro +250 MM -500 McEnelly +1000 AJ +150 Iowa +200 (winner without Penn State) McEnelly seems like a strong play with as close as the B10 final was.

Best performing wild card in past NCAA tourneys?
The_KC_Godfather replied to Fletcher's topic in College Wrestling
Yep. I think he was a true freshman too. He also beat Nahshon Garrett and pinned Gilman in route to the finals! I think injuries killed his career after that...he took 8th and then never AA'd again. -
This sounds wayyyyyy too much like a Schwarzenegger/Stalone rivalry from the 80’s….

Your take reminded me of when Brian Smith first took over at Mizzou. They had Scott Barker on the team, who was a national finalist, but the dude was toxic (not AJ toxic, but still). Smith booted him from the team. A national finalist. i gained a ton of respect for Smith with that. Would rather have a good culture that builds good men than allow toxicity into the program he’s trying to build, even if it meant losing team points. Not to say other coaches aren’t trying to do the same with allowing AJ into their program, but makes you wonder how important winning is.
