  1. You got the stickies…don’t you. No, I didn’t.
  2. it is one thing to beat a medalist, it is another to win a medal. That's all I said. Relax folks. It's okay.
  3. True, but really has nothing to do with the fact that there's a difference between beating a world medalist or champ at an open or grand prix, and doing it at the world championships. Not saying it's impossible for him to do so.
  4. I don't know if it takes anything away when comparing world championships from the past. There is a long history of ten weight classes. Comparing Olympics on the other hand...... I really think overall you have to give a little more weight to the golds and medals in the post soviet era, before even talking about weight classes. There's just so many damn Russians in the bracket. Then you drop down to six weights, making the bracket even more Russian heavy. Then you add in the new wave of free agency, where, not only do you have the Russian, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Belarus in the bracket......but the athletes from France and Arab Emirates are imported Russians. It's particularly tough in international wrestling to make good comparisons between eras. The mount rushmore in my opinion should be categorize your four eras, and who's the goat from each.
  5. Not for nothin, but there's a big difference between beating someone with a medal, and winning a medal at the championships. Especially for Americans, who tend to stay closer to 'peak' than other countries. Brent Metcalf????
  6. I love this selection process. I love that if you win a world medal, they have to come through you. I have no problem with that, that athlete has proven they are capable of winning a world medal. I also love the adjustments they made this year and the extreme importance of the national championship. The national champ will wrestle for the spot, guaranteed. To make the team you either have to win a medal, or win the national championship. I think that’s beautiful.
  7. None the less, did the ref forget who he awarded the caution too. Did the athletes and coaches forget who just back straight out avoiding just three seconds ago. I get was mass confusion I’m just again surprised that EVERYONE in the match forgot who just got cautioned three seconds ago.
  8. So what I’ve been wondering is how is it that everyone involved in the match forgot that there was a criteria winning caution JUST THREE SECONDS AGO. The caution was even marked on the board Seriously the ref, athletes, coaches all just……forgot.
  9. No offense but, then why did you bring him up and talk about him when the conversation had nothing to do with him?
  10. 55 -Nowry 60- Black 63- Jones 67- Nutter 72- Smith 77- Bey 82- Sanders 87-Stefanowicz 97- Boykin 130-Ruuuuuuulon
  11. Yeah I hear ya. I’m in Florida. We’re trying.
  12. Serious question, when was the last season eight schools had a champ?
  13. I was part of a contingent of about 25 people that reserved a couple tables to watch semis at a bar…. I know there were many others. Many a HS/Club programs do big watch parties.
  14. I've seen a few remarks that adding the criteria of nearfall for riding point, would add complexity to even some table workers scoring the match? It's documented in the match, whether handwritten on the bout sheet or in track. Wouldn't it be, like a two to three second exercise, to verify whether or not the athlete scored a nearfall? An exercise a scorekeeper could verify, maybe as the clock runs down under ten seconds.
  15. He also, save from 45 seconds of brain fart against Petro, showed he was levels above the competition in Tokyo. Many before have taken off significant time in a cycle and come back to win another gold.
  16. My opinion, what you are speaking of is the fundamental connect, where there should be disconnect. ‘Government’ should not be anywhere in there. Not as far as the Olympics (and level competition) is concerned. I realize that that’s ‘should be’ and not necessarily always is. None the less, the athletes represent the people of their nation. And I think we can all agree governments don’t always represent the will of their nations peoples. I can tell you with certainty this war is not the will of the people of Russia, and while I agree there has to be accountability, withholding the athletes is a much much bigger punishment to the athletes, and the pride the people of Russia take in their success, than it is to the individuals perpetrating what’s going on over there.
  17. His freestyle leg lace might be (or at least had been, we haven’t seen it in awhile) as good as his folkstyle tilt.
  18. First-dependence and addiction are not the same thing. An addiction causes an actual physiological reaction upon withdrawal. Can be as major as sweats and trembles and shakes you see with crackheads, can be as minor as a headache because you didn’t have any coffee today. Im a dipper and a nightly pot smoker. (I also spend very little time sitting in front of the TV on the sofa). Two points want to make here relating to this. As a LEGAL pot smoker, I still have a job that has policies. One of those policies is ‘random’ drug tests. We know when the pull is going to happen, we just don’t know who’s going to get pulled. So every three months, I make a decision to go three weeks without any pot. I make that decision because I know there could be consequences should I fail a test. During those three weeks I feel no physical effects, other than the lack of pain relief. I WANT to have a smoke, but there’s no physical pull to do so. I go a day without dipping and I’m shaking, headache, etc (yes I know I need to stop @Jason Bryant) Dependence is an emotional attachment, that requires a decision. Addiction is a neurological connection, and requires intervention.
  19. Then quality of competition goes out the window. So now we can’t factor how many wins, how many pins/bonus, or quality of competition.
  20. In years past I would say a college athlete doesn’t ‘owe’ this kind of explanation to anyone. But that’s years past. In todays world college athletes are getting paid, and they’re getting paid by individuals and/or LLC’s based on their fan following. With that comes responsibility. I think in today business of college sports, an athlete does have a responsibility for an explanation as to why he withdrew from the national championship.
  21. There were four world champs, a world silver, and a world bronze in the heavyweight bracket this year, all but one of them in the big ten. The way the ladder has rotated the previous three years under Gable, it’s very possible this bracket has three NCAA champs heading in…..if not for Gable. When it comes to comparing level of competition, give me a Junior world champ over NCAA any day of the week, and twice on wrestling days. Parris wrestled more matches than anyone else, in that weight, ran the gauntlet unscathed, and had more falls (always a big criteria) than anyone else. Beat more all Americans. Bonused more qualifiers and all Americans. At the weight with the deepest level of accomplishment.
