I don't understand the fascination with home grown. PSU had 2 starters from PA on the NCAA lineup, 3 if you count Luke who was from MO but spent his last 2 years at a prep school in PA. If we are taking HS recruits, then I think most teams are still recruiting HS and use the portal to fill holes. PSU being the exception but they still will use the portal when they can upgrade (see Rocco over Ryder), they just don't have as many holes. Ono isn't a typical transfer but they didn't turn him down because they recruited someone out of HS instead. It would be malpractice for Iowa to avoid getting transfers to fill their roster for the sake of saying but we use to do this way.

RBY competed in June and July after getting picked apart by Vito in March. No one is 100% at NCAAs. I am not saying RBY was perfect but it was shocking to see how slow Vito made him look and whatever boo-boo it was, it didn't prevent him from competing in submission matches and Freestyle months later. Sometimes you have to give credit to victor and not make excuses for the loss.

This seems like a "spin zone" to me. Sure if you want to be a life long assistant I can see playing it safe and avoiding Iowa. But what is the real risk if you are an up and coming assistance or world team member, really? If Iowa gets better you are going to get a lot of the credit which could lead to HC opportunities. If things go south, everyone is still going to blame Brands and you would get a lot of exposure in the process, likely get another assistant job. I get not wanting to uproot your family, but if you are an ambitious assistant, you might have to move around a bit before you are going to get a big opportunity. Might as well bet on yourself.

Well Allred broke his ankle in the quarters and MFF out so I don't think him not placing means anything. I never said because he went to OT with Wask he is a title contender. I listed the top contenders and how Gabe stacks up. It's not particular deep. For example, I won't be shocked if Gabe were to beat Steed who is the 2nd highest returning AA.

The returning AAs at 174 are: Minto, Steed, Wask, Mantanona and Gaitan. Gabe beat the bigger Mantanona at 184 this year and lost in SV (shocker) to Wask at 174. Its not crazy to say Gabe is a finalist contender. Minto is probably the favorite but he is by no means a next topic.

So if you exclude Manning's two best years, - give no consideration for Nebraska being in the B1G 10 vs the Big 12 (helps create a conference championship category that isn't reflective of the better team) -don't take strength of schedule into effect (I guess 60% of the Neumann's team that were outside of the top 10 could of avoided more losing seasons with a B1G schedule hypothetically) - In Manning's 2 losing seasons, they finished 8th and 12th at NCAAs while Nuemann has winning seasons when they finished outside of the top 20 multiple times ,but sure "category for Neumann". -ignore the freestyle & world team success and ignore the benefit of are marketing appeal that coaching JB created, - give no credit for the year over year consistency, - Also, Neumann's average finish at NCAAs was 15.8 and Manning's was 10.4 (in the first 23 years) - Not sure how we are different on this category - There really isn't much difference. Manning's team finishing in the top 10 20% higher (still ignoring the consistency), have more AA's every year, and higher average finish at NCAAs. Twist the numbers all you want. Neumann's best team was the 1993 year that was weird one that he benefited from but unfortunately he could not build upon or maintain that success (because it was an outlier) and they only finished in the top 10, 2 of the next 6 years. Take that year out and continue to ignore the last two and Neumann only finishes better in 2 of your self selected categories (winning the B12 twice and less losing seasons). You could also add less favorable Neumann categories (worst NCAA finish (Neumann), multi-time national champions (Manning), most top 8 finishes (Manning had 7 in his first 23 years (9 now) compared to the 8 total in Nebraska's history before), finishes outside the top 20 (Neumann 3 times, Manning 0), but that wouldn't help your claim. You are entitled to your own opinion and I am fine if we disagree, but you don't get your own facts.

No they are not. I guess you can keep saying it but it won't make it true. Nebraska has finished in the top 10 in 10 of the last 11 NCAA championships held (and were #2 the year it was cancelled. They finished in the top 10, 6 times total during Neumann's 15 year tenure. Heck, Neumann's best season was the year Okie State couldn't compete so Purler transferred in. They are really are not the same. Don't get me wrong, Neumann elevated the program from where he got it but if you can see the difference from where it was to where it is now, then it speaks more about you than reality.

The last two years have been his and the program's best years, but to suggest that difference in his first 23 years, particularly in the consistency, was on par with their history before he took over is nonsensical. They are buyers now, but the team that finished 2nd last year had only 1 transfer who had never AA'd before coming to Nebraska. They recruit pretty well but do not typically have top 2 or 3 teams in recruiting rankings so I don't see the issue with them claiming he built the program up. I thought it was obvious to everyone, but I guess it went over so many peoples head, that Manning statement was trying to speak to recruits and brag how they make guys better once they get on campus.
