Carter Starocci faces allegations of sexual assault and theft
Dogbone replied to VakAttack's topic in College Wrestling
Wow. You know its a good prank when you keep it for 6+ months, have the coaches and police aware, a teammate (Kasak) speak to the police and then you refuse to speak yourself. Wasting a lot of time and resources. He got everyone with that one! -
To be fair, the wrestling media has been very quiet today. Maybe they are all out asking the tough questions in regard to this CStar news. Willie (although he might be sleeping), Basch, Pyles, Flo main account have been too busy to even repost, mention or comment about the existence of the Daily Collegian article.

Carter Starocci faces allegations of sexual assault and theft

Weird response to my statement that it is not a nothing burger. Does it make it okay if Cael did nothing wrong? Beau also said he report the naked pictures to the coach as well. Again, I do think the source matters, especially when they are putting their reputation on the line. It sure seems like Beau had the expectation that something would happen after he reported it and whatever that was, it did not occur. Don't worry, I seriously doubt the winningest coach in State College will take the fall for this. Bassett will probably still commit to PSU and they will dominate next season and beyond. Nothing to see hear... -
Carter Starocci faces allegations of sexual assault and theft

Holy cow. I get fanboys trying to spin everything in their teams favor, but Beau , a multi time AA, put his name out there and said I reported these things to coach and nothing happened. Not an anonymous source or a room guy with an axe to grind. It doesn't mean there was a crime provable beyond all reasonable doubt; however, a serious contributor to PSU success has put his name and quotes behind it. That, in and of itself, tells me this is not a "nothing burger" -
I thought Beau was a Basch guy too. Re watching it, I was surprised how much he dismissed Beau making an allegation because he was leaving NLWC in favor of CStar. Willie asked him to set up what happened and before even saying anything related to the allegation or what was posted, he just says "nothingburger"

He will pray for those who would make these allegations, acknowledge that all men are fallible and this is all part of the CStar's faith journey. Then tell all the hater they can [QV w/ undercover cop Kyle Snyder style] -
Carter Starocci faces allegations of sexual assault and theft

This is a very good breakdown of the issues. I doubt there is much evidence tying the coaches to anything real, but because this is PSU, I think Cael's only real concern is if this gets picked up by the National Media and sensationalized beyond the evidence. The pressure of another winning coach over looking alleged sexual misconduct allegations at PSU could be too much for a Board of Regents, even if there is no evidence Cael was aware of anything. -

Are you suggesting an investigation into sexual misconduct in a PSU athletic facility was not completed the most vigorous fashion possible?? I am shocked, just shocked. -
Mark Manning was on local radio and was fairly open about how A.J. ended up in Lincoln, including more information about why he didn't get admitted into UNC and Rob Kolls involvement. The full interview covers their recent success, recruiting and A.J. I don't know how to clip videos but the interview starts at the 33:00 minute mark and it's almost 30 minutes. The A.J. stuff starts at about 45:00 minute mark.

Good point. Maybe Beau wears mismatch shoes is because Carter (or Kasak?) stole the other ones. -

I don't want Cael to lose his job, but the "may not be signed to NLWC" seemed like a PR/damage control statement. It's not like Carter's behavior was enough to keep NLWC from training him through the trials and Final X true 3rd match. The "maybe" seemed more like, its not done yet and if this blows up then we actually might not.. -

$1000 is chump change for the PSU wrestlers But seriously, an iphone is $1000. A watch, shoes, gear, ipad, could easily get that high and its not like its any "school athletic locker", I would guess its a fairly secure area where only a few people have access. -
I would bet a lot of money that there is no evidence that will implicate Cael.

Dont' worry, Coastal knows two things for certain. Never change PSU

So your two summer birthday kids are 8-12 weeks younger than the late April birthday, I don't see that as a big deal. If you want to call it a RS, I don't have an issue with the nomenclature. I just think, when talking about kindergarten, late April through Summer is a 50/50 call on whether you send them when they are 5. I have seen it go both ways and most have nothing to do with sports. Typically, the 9/1 date is for 6 year olds, not 5 year olds. It seems pretty common for July birthdays to get held, I doubt all the summer birthday gets sent when 5 (just like you didn't) so the 1/3 is an exaggeration for effect and not likely.
-
To me, late April is right on the line where I wouldn't consider that a RS. I know he will be 19 for a few weeks before he graduates, but only a few months older than a someone who turns 19 in June/July after they graduate. To me, a RS is when they are held an additional year. For the record, I don't have a big issue with any parent who RS their kid before Kindergarten (regardless of month of birth) as 99.9% is done for size/maturity issues and not a competitive advantage when they are 19. I also don't have a big issue with a 19 year old senior but I can at least understand the argument, it just doesn't bother me a ton.
-
I don't think that is correct. His RS would have been 21-22 school year, if he is going to graduate in 2026. According to Track he was wrestling between 100 - 106 in the spring of 2021. He won Cadets at 45 KG (99 lbs) in July of 2021 before he redshirted. I suppose you could argue that the best 99 lber in the world in July 2021, would of needed to a redshirt to compete at the State tournament in March 2022 at 106, but he wasn't competing at 95 lbs when he would of been a freshman.

^^This^^ According to Keegan Bassett, "all (the Bassett camp) wanted was... what other top recruits were getting" and according to Bo this was not NIL related. I am not sure what other benefits a recruit, 1 year prior to graduating, can receive that is not NIL related. Most likely, PSU kept recruiting Bo and convinced him to flip and the "not feeling the love" "Brand's yelled at my mommy" stories are just a cover to save face for someone who is very image/brand conscious.
-
Yeah, Spencer could privately pay for Bo and his immediate family, Bo's aunt, uncles and 1st cousins to come to Iowa City every week. Problem solved.
-
Ironically, if Bo hadn't reclassified before his freshman year, he would be on campus training in the Iowa room as we speak.
-
Yep, the guy who is paying seven figures annually has a say and the guy who is receiving the money does not. I know it was a joke, but that is how the world works. Thou who has the gold, makes the rules. We all have bosses. And as Williams and Gabe are finding out, its never good to piss off the guy who signs your checks.

I am sure this was part Bill Bassett's complaint. But we also don't know how the Iowa AD/Compliance views wrestling. The AD stepped in to stop AJ getting admitted after the double bird, they had the gambling issue to deal with and just recently had to make a public statement (or lack thereof) about William's arrest. It's entirely possible the AD said, no we are not going to risk a violation on this (pure speculation on my part). David Taylor is the new penny on campus and just had success that is bringing positive attention to the school. With Paycom bring in new revenue, maybe OSU is just saying screw it, the NCAA lacks teeth and we will do what we want. It also raises the question of who pays for the flights? Bo's NIL deal with Bob Nichols was already agreed upon and now with revenue sharing, who pays for flights if Bob says I already giving you $5M. that flight money has to come from Revenue Sharing. Maybe OSU NIL deal with Paycom included flights to Stillwater and Bill Bassett is just upset he didn't get the best deal. My point is there is a lot we don't know. It seems very unlikely Brands would say Bo couldn't train there unless compliance or paying for it was an issue. So if its out of Brand's hands and that is the reason Bo de-committed then it probably wasn't going to work anyway. I agree with the notion that Bassetts are probably at fault and Brands could of handled it better and been a little softer around the edges. But I doubt he committed to Iowa because he thought Brands would deliver every message with sunshine and roses.

I think you have it summarized correctly. The only thing I would add as possibilities your question is : 1) it is a grey area in the rule and Ok St compliance is willing to take the risk that is permitted and Iowa's compliance either doesn't think it's permissible or doesn't want to risk a violation on a 50/50 call. OR 2) Is Jax situation different under the rules than Bo's? Jax was going to Stillwater to train under the RTC for an event he will be competing in as opposed to Bo who may just want to go train. Also, sounds like Melvin and Keegan also wanted to go and maybe as prospective athletes that could be different that OSU paying for Jax and (potentially) his family? I don't know the rules but the nuances could be important to how each compliance department is looking at it.
