He was pretty well known regionally. Undefeated his last 3 years of high school at a prominent large school in a tough state. He may not have been recruited by any top 5 schools, but I have to believe Wisconsin, Minnesota, SDSU, Michigan schools, etc. gave him a serious look. Maybe the California weather and lifestyle just appealed to him initially.

Thank you, that is the event I was thinking of. I couldn't think of the technicality that caused them to re-wrestle, but I believe you got it. Does anyone have a guess at the two wrestlers that wrestled 3 times at the same NCAA tournament? They were teammates the year before and they were both D1 All-Americans (just not both that year).

I have a trivia question that I hope someone can help me clarify. Although I was at this NCAA tournament, I don't recall seeing the event in question, I just remember people talking about it afterwards. What 2 former D1 college teammates (both All-Americans at some point) wrestled each other 3 times in the same D1 NCAA tournament?

I didn't take his statement on FRL to mean that he necessarily wants to get into college coaching. Maybe he just wants to spend more time with or expand his club coaching. He mentioned Freddie Roach as motivating him to coach and he is a boxing and MMA trainer.

How many AAs this year? Hint: it's less than one. Last year AA's he faced: Fix, Byrd, Cannon, Lamont (Fix, RBY and Mendez in postseason) You're thinking with your pooper.

Byrd, Fix, Cannon were all top 10ish and returning All-Americans last year at the time of their meeting. Plus, RBY twice, Mendez twice, Fix again in the postseason. His only bad loss last year was Palmer.

Not really. Big Ten schedule both years and he also had Okie State/Fix regular season last year.

15-3 going into Big 10 tourney last year. Currently 9-4.
