  1. A bit heavy on the celebration for a 2 seed dominating a first round match.
  2. Possibly dumb question: is there a good way to know who is on deck on each mat?
  3. Found the Shane Sparks burner account.
  4. Double stall-out in the third period as both men ran out of gas. Neither continues to OT. the undercard of RBY vs Carr ends up determining the true PFP #1
  5. Why does Radio Shack ask for your phone number when you buy batteries?
  6. Good on them for actually wrestling! This happened in the finals of the 1999 midlands and the brothers decided not to wrestle, which I thought was kind of dumb at the time.
  7. I think in general choosing down, especially in the 3rd period is way overdone. As is deferring. Sure, having more information going into the third might help, but maybe it's also easier to get that escape point in the 2nd when you're closer to being fresh than starting the 3rd. For TB, 30s is indeed pretty short. I wonder if anyone has stats on the ride outs end up, like how baseball coaches play the averages with calls. Seems that most wrestlers just default to thinking they're a good wrestler, so they can get out and just choose down out of habit.
  8. is 25 ever not the easiest weight? Also, number of champs isn't necessarily that big an indicator. What if they won their title because they were at an easy weight? I guess it may depend if they are at 65 because it's their natural weight, because they want a challenge, or because they are hiding our from tougher guys at 174 and 157. I do generally think that champions have the confidence to toe the line where they are naturally, so that's probably the case. Do college wrestlers ever bump up or down to avoid a stud at their natural weight in hopes to get a better shot at AA or a Title?
  9. I read the "worst wrestler" thread. I know some you here have opinions on this one....
  10. I had a high school teammate who was color blind to the point where when he was the first one on the mat he wouldn't know which set of bands to put on, so maybe red and green aren't the best two colors to use.
  11. Here's an example from Greco at the 1912 Olympics, so not super relevant, but it is a great piece of Olympic trivia. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wrestling_at_the_1912_Summer_Olympics_–_Men's_Greco-Roman_light_heavyweight "The final match between Ahlgren and Böhling was declared a draw after more than 9 hours of wrestling. Since the rules of the contest were worded in such a way that the gold medalist had to have defeated his opponent, neither man could take the gold medal and both received silver."
  12. If you picked bottom and couldn't escape, that's on you.
  13. Yeah, that seemed pretty hacky/shilly to me. I thought people called the mat "the canvas" if they wanted to show off some old school cred.
  14. On May 25, 1935 in Ann Arbor, MI, Jesse Owens of Ohio State won four events at the big ten track and field championships, setting three world records and tying another all in the span of 45 minutes. today, the big ten network has set a record for commercials shown during a wresting broadcast, covering four weight classes in the span of 75 minutes.
  15. Young Sammy Sosa vs late career sosa
  16. What’s with the locked hands calls lately? Is this a junior high meet?
  17. It does seem like the officials have been a little reluctant to award stalling points at times.
  18. Ramos with some killer counters during that match. Also set a big 10 record for head fakes in 7 minutes.
  19. This was some good third period wrestling!
  20. Quick, check Sasso’s bat for cork!
  21. Random: are these lightweight mats they’re wrestling on. When I was in high school around turn of the millennium, I hated those for some reason.
