This is going to be a great first dual for both teams. Last year’s dual was a good one in Ohio where VT won and Henson, as a true freshman beat Sasso. Flo predicted a 19-12 win for the Hokies Just an fyi. Sasso has a younger brother who use a true freshman at VT and will likely redshirt at 197 but coach Robie did say he might get some dual starts this year

Vito probably has the toughest chance to repeat. Dude is an animal and lightning fast. However, Sam Latona has the same build and shown he can beat him. I watched the match in person and it was quite impressive. Vito got revenge when it mattered but Sam kept it close and wasn’t blown away

Is it televised or streamed anywhere?

He looks jacked! He looks like a bonafide 165 guy in that pic and noticeably more muscular than last year. Even at 165, I’d pencil him as a natty title contender. Ed Scott likely highly approves BA’s move to 165. I’d be interested to see if Brady could handle the move to 174 if Lewis bumps up. If Crook packed on muscle like BA this summer, he’d likely beat Ulrey for the spot. The kid is good.

Can crook still make 141? The VT board chatter seems to indicate he may have outgrown that weight class. Later in the season, he seemed to fade with gas tank issues. He’s a shooter and fun to watch. I knew he was going be a good one when I watched him at the SE open last year and he beat the Columbia kid pretty convincingly. I had heard mehki might go 184. If true, that’d be interesting who slots at 174.

Trent Hilday. Hate isn’t the right word but definitely not liked. The tongue wagging while raising roof is childish. His brother is a class act

As much as I hate to see him consider other jobs, VT’s Frayer should be a great candidate. Current associate coach with notable FS development in athletes plus being a former Olympic wrestler himself. The VT guys love Frayer. He seems to be a better man, husband and father than a coach and that’s saying something

Has there been any rumors for VT looking for a new conference? They can compete with anyone other than PSU in wrestling so I’d personally like to see the go to the BIG 10. They’d get squashed in most other sports there most notably in FB but I only follow wrestling so that’s not a concern of mine

Kennedy will likely transfer out. The hawks just spent mucho $ on Caliendo. VT would be a good place for Kennedy.

I’m biased but think Catka will jump a tier or two next season. He wrestled a pretty tough schedule and lost a bunch of 1 point matches against top tier guys.

GA is putting out some quality wrestlers. Former VT stud Yates is involved with a club near the Atlanta area, I think. One recent notable success from that area is true freshman VT stud Henson.

VT did a really great job recruiting him. It wouldn’t shock me if he chooses to not go to Iowa.

An assumption is Fisher would drop to 174. Fisher doesn’t look like a large 84 guy now but 10 pounds is a pretty big cut. Fisher is already preseason ranked at 84 and he’s likely going to be really good. If mehki does go 84, redshirt Stewart’s only option is to bump to 97 and try to beat out Smith. I don’t think we’ll see other weight changes for VT. True freshman Sasso could also try to take Smith’s spot at 97. As good as he’s projected to be, it’s tall task for a true freshman to match grown man strength at 97. Heck, 3 time AA Haught got manhandled as a redshirt at 97 until he grew into the weight and hit the weights for a couple years

Mehki Lewis may bump to 184. Not in stone yet but he’s considering it

A team trophy is fairly realistic next season. Not a gimme but doable

VT 125 - Ventresca - AA potential again with Flynn battling for the spot 133 - Latona - AA potential again and a potential finalist 141 - likely Crook again. NQ with a level jump likely after starting as a true freshman 149 - Henson - natty title contender 157 - BA the most exciting college wrestler. Natty title contender 165 - Brady another NQ next season and hopeful podium finish 174- Lewis Natty title contender if healthy 184 - possibly Lewis or winner of Stewart/Fisher 197 - Smith likely if Sasso shirts. Another NQ Hvt -Big Cat NQ with very likely AA

VT was in Rowley’s top 6 schools. From what I remember, his choice came down to the badgers and VT. It seems FS is important to him so VT might be a likely spot that he’ll land
