I’m not in the know but would the powers that be only hire an Iowa grad? If so, their applicant pool is fairly small with HC or Asst HC experience. Dresser would be a good fit but being a current cyclone may not be in his favor. Metcalf, St John same thing but proven coaches under Dresser’s wing. UNI Schwab would be a good option

That makes sense. Since it sounds like he won’t face either Seidel or Ayala, his highest ranked opponent before nationals will likely be Larkin at the conference tournament. Not a bad strategy but a loss there may backfire to build his rpi

It’ll be a great dual event. Hopefully the corp of cadets are there to bolster the attendance. The cadets seem to love wrestling matches and back in the day there used to be an exhibition match or two among the cadets. Odds are Ok St takes the dual but there will be some great individual matches that should keep it entertaining. Ventresca vs Spratley will be another good one.

Hopefully DT lets Forrest go at the VT match.

I’m so looking forward to this match next Sunday in Blacksburg!! Objectively, I think it’s s toss up match. Forrest appears to have the slight edge on their feet while Seidel has the edge in top position. With maroon and orange lens, I think AS might give up a take down or two but squeaks out the W with turns. I don’t think he continues his bonus point streak here because Forrest is too good. I suspect Forrest will pick neutral vs bottom, and I suspect we’ll see more of that for good reason. Chime in with your predictions. No matter who you want to win here, this is a great individual match for the fans and one we’ll likely see in the quarter or semi finals in March

Lehigh always has a competitive team. I wish VT could get them back on their schedule

I think VT’s ceiling is a few spots higher than their rankings project. They are leaving a lot of points off the table at 141, 174 and 184. Of those 3 weight classes, I think they should over perform at all except 184. Add in bonus points from Seidel and we could be flirting in the 5-7 range with the right draws and a little luck along the wsy Next season, anything less than a team trophy would be a let down

Brands and Co might end the regular season outside the top 10 in dual rankings.

Seidel smoked Knox 13-0. He’s a legit natty title threat. Hate to put that pressure on a true freshman but he’s the real deal

What are the betting odds he hits the portal? There’d be some interest in getting him on their roster. VT needs a 184 guy next season

That 7-1 match was like 4-1 late in the 3rd. They got in a memorable scramble and Seidel almost scored the TD a couple times but Forrest did a great job defending. Seidel went for broke with like 10 seconds left and gave up a TD with a second or two on the clock. both are studs and hopefully we get rewarded with a rematch. I’ll be in Blacksburg regardless but that’d awesome if they line up.

I so hope Seidel and Forrest go at in Blacksburg. With maroon and oranges glasses on I think Seidel wins that match. Forrest has the slight edge from neutral but Seidel can rack up some points with his top game. I’d be shocked if Forrest took down though

If there’s a clear separation between Seidel and Campbell, he has to start soon. It’d be good if he could scrap with someone in the top 5-10 range before that decision was made though. Based off the limited times I’ve saw him, he’d at least hold his own and would get the W in most cases. A 100% bonus rate as a true freshman is insane

Small world indeed. Carvins Cove is a great resource. I’m not a mountain biker but did a few 25k trail runs there that started and end at Loch Haven but had about 13 miles of trail running in the cove. Douthat is absolutely beautiful. I did a trail marathon there. The view at the top of Blue Suck trail (I think that’s what it was called) is amazing.

It’s a beautiful place. I actually drove past the trail head parking lot this morning going to the family farm around daylight. The parking lot was almost full. if you go, make sure you don’t park where there are no parking signs. Not trying to be funny but during the fall, it happens and you will get towed. I’ve seen cops have 6-8 tow truck lined up and hauling cars off. There’s a shuttle service too but not sure how that works but it’s probably on the Roanoke County website. There is a new bridge from the parking lot over route 311 to the trail. I haven’t been in years since I did trail runs but, depending on your condition level, it’s moderately difficult and maybe a 4 mile trip each way. I highly recommend being at the knob before daylight or near sunset, it’s stunning if the weather cooperates. You can also do a much further hike with two vehicles from tinker cliffs to McAfee’s Dragon’s tooth is another worthy option just down route 311

Off the mat attraction in or near VT; tons of hiking (McAfee’s, most photographed location on AT), the New River, Claytor lake and the small town vibe of Blacksburg. It’s a niche and special place but not for everyone. The outdoor type looking for a laid back lifestyle would love the place. VT has had a number of NJ guys come here McFadden, Lewis, Burton and others
