“What other sport takes away team points for celebrating?”
BigRedFan replied to 1032004's topic in College Wrestling
The race isn't over until the last person in the heat finishes. You can't leave your lane, neither by going into another lane nor by getting out of the pool. This rule *ensures* that nobody interferes with any other swimmer. No judgment needed. You don't do it. Make no mistake: I feel for him. -

Rather than the simple and obvious "don't do that"? -

The guy who was disqualified changed lanes before all swimmers had finished. That's a no-no. There's no judgment allowed on the official's part; do you want it to be a judgment call as to whether anyone in another lane was affected? The correct response by the winner of a heat is to remain in the lane until everyone is finished; maybe hang on the lane line to congratulate the swimmer in the next lane. -
I think Ramirez has a better shot than does Foca. Ramirez has career wins over two NCAA champions (Griffith, Carr), including Carr this year. O'Toole is likely a bridge too far.
-
Arujau and Shapiro both have decent shots at winning.
-
Not quite. He has to wrestle two matches at the conference tournament to qualify for an at-large bid. Can't just walk on, MFF, and walk off. Those days are gone. At least, that's how I sorta understand it!

Crookham hasn't wrestled in a month (Santoro said he was "week-to-week"...for four weeks?), and Stanich has missed the last couple weekends (the cut is hard for him?). Beard is good for lots of points, and Taylor might surprise some folks. Between 133 and 197, they have almost nothing. Match notes for the ASU dual this week show Seymour or Stanich at 125, and Crooham at 133 (as they did last weekend, and the weekend before, and the weekend before).

Retherford and other "Tweeners" at Olympic Trials

Not sure to what you are referring. He's already qualified for the OTT, which I thought was the topic at hand. -

Shapiro has the choice of going down to 65kg and facing Yianni and the rest, or going up to 74kg and facing Dake and JB and the rest. No good options. For sure, if he goes 74kg he'll be fully fueled a month after being 157 at NCAAs. He's said he really doesn't like to cut weight. It would be interesting to see what his speed would do against a "monster" like Dake. -
All good. Sorry if I misinterpreted your statement. (again, do what I did: find a TV provider that carries the network you want and that offers a free trial (like FuboTV), sign up, watch, cancel. The TV providers make these offers knowing full well that most won't stick, but they've calculated that it is worth it to them.
-
Why did they put out their best teams for the Missouri and Ohio State duals this year, if they don't give a shit about duals? Why do they even bother scheduling them?
-
So you spend some money on streams of your choosing, but you don't value other streams enough to pay for them: so you steal them. I guess it is okay because Ben Askren talks about it. I can't change your mind, but I can give you perspective that you can choose to ignore. Everyone else can pay for your theft, right?
-
If your business model included charging people for your product or service, how would you feel if someone stole your product or service and made it available to others for free? You good with that? Just sign up for a free trial of a TV provider that carries the network (in this case ACCNX), and cancel if you don't like the network (that's why they offer free trials: some people keep it, some people forget to cancel). Blatant theft.

For as long as I can recall, Cornell schedules a tough opponent near the end (mid-February and later) of the dual season. It seems to work, as they consistently perform well at the EIWA and NCAA tournaments. So, it works for them. I can give you Coach Grey's email address if you'd like to suggest how they can change their season strategy to better align with your opinion. Keep in mind that Coach Grey cannot, when making the schedule, predict the medical or other status of everyone on the team six months out. Maybe, just maybe, they get more out of wrestling a tough opponent than they do out of another blowout of an EIWA team. Can you remind me who sat out the great out-of-conference duals against Missouri and Ohio State this year? TIA. "All you do:" sheesh. Cornella is injured. Period. Everyone who follows Cornell, and even some who don't, know that. Coach Grey isn't "sitting him." Vito never "sits out" a dual unless there is a very good reason to do so, and ducking ain't one of those reasons. Again, those who follow Cornell, and many who don't, know that Vito has had injury issues all season until recently, and even last weekend appeared to take a knock to the head that momentarily stunned him. Finally, last I checked, any team other than Penn State whose best guys don't take the mat often lose because of it.
-
He was the starter his (greyshirt) freshman year, but then Vito returned and we know what that means. He was then injured all last year. He's really short (and possibly undersized), so he has difficulty riding and some issues on bottom. Ungar has also beaten him both times they've met, and has a win or two over more highly ranked opponents. Ungar is very stingy in neutral (Greg is more aggressive and gets more TDs), is very strong on top, and seems to be more clutch. Perhaps the coaches feel that if Ungar was just more aggressive he'd be even better? He was a toenail away from AA last year.

Hey, I resemble that remark! (resident of Central Jersey

He's been looking a bit more like his old self as the season progresses. I can only guess that he's going to weigh as little as possible at NCAAs and still have a good chance of winning, so as to make the cut to 57kg in a month as easy as possible. We will know all we need to know at the EIWA tournament!

Temper your excitement. No Arujau or Cornella. Cornella will be back the final dual next weekend before EIWAs. No explanation for Arujau's expected absence. Oddly enough, Josh Saunders is the expected guy at 141 for his first dual of the year. Dual won't be close as a result. Do you recall that Ramirez TF'd Fields 16-1 in the first period in November? (from Cornell's just-posted match notes for the weekend)

Cardenas has not committed to Arizona State, nor any other school. The hope is Michigan, but other schools are in play (or, more precisely, are in the bidding). This is from an unimpeachable source.

Nope.

What happens next year for Cornell Seniors?
BigRedFan replied to feet2back's topic in College Wrestling
Went to the Cornell-Princeton dual tonight. Spoke to the main guy in "Foca's Army," who indicated that Foca will be deferring a semester in order to wrestle for Cornell next year. Yee-haw! Cardenas is moving on, as we all know. The above guy said that he's getting lots of offers, and is looking at Michigan. Fernandes told me this is his last year, and next year he'll be working in finance in NYC (not being a farmer any more!). So like Shapiro/Ramirez/Ruiz/Foca in the middle of the lineup. -
Just spoke to someone who knows (hint: he was wearing a "Foca's Army" sweatshirt). Jacob is getting a bunch of "offers," and would like to go to Michigan, but whatever works best for him is what he'll do.
-
Of course. It is only the Ivy League schools for whom he cannot wrestle. Them, and Bucknell, I believe, which doesn't allow for red shirting (don't hold me to that!) or grad students.

More Tough Wrestling coming to Brown University
BigRedFan replied to flyingcement's topic in College Wrestling
Kemerererer was at the Spartan Combat RTC, not Cornell. Cornell has four (different) coaches (Grey, Vinson, Russell, Gwiz).
