  1. If the best versions of Noto, Kaylor, Surtin, Camacho, Smith, McKee, Barnett, DeAugustino show up at NCAA, it's really gonna shake thing up in the consolation brackets!
  2. I think the Over/Under Line has to be around 4.75 to 5.25 . If Barnett, McKee, Smith, or DeAugustino show more consistency it's definitely trending towards 5.25
  3. I created my own rankings using these metrics today. I am curious to see how well this predicts All Americans. 30% weight on GRIT (performance in top level matches) 20% weight on Best Win Quality against ranked guys 15% weight on Recent Performances last month 13% weight on Hammer rating (how much you destroy opposition measured taking into account strength of your opposition) 12% weight on Consistency (how your win% pairs up with your strength of schedule) 10% weight on Strength of Schedule This gives me 3 tiers of guys A TIER 1 Ramos 387, 2 Ayala 385, 3 Spratley 357, 4 Stanich 345 B TIER 5 Flynn 311, 6 Davis 297, 7 Smith 285 C TIER 8 DeAugustino 267, 9 Poulin 260, 10 Provo252, 11(TIE) Jordan/Surtin 250, 13 Kaylor 244, 14 Noto 242, 15 Volk 240 D TIER 16 McKee 206, 17 Barnett 202, 18 Camacho 195
  4. I'm so confused what's happening here
  5. I agree that Metcalf doesn't have hard feelings towards Iowa. I also have watched a Gilman video suggesting he doesn't have hard feelings towards Iowa. I could see Gilman getting hot headed for awhile about the competitive situation arising there, but his decision made a lot of sense. I don't know him personally so I couldn't say if he actually holds a grudge. Penn State offered superior training opportunities in my opinion free from Spencer Lee's eyes and ears. If Metcalf hated Iowa, he doubtfully would coach at Iowa State and have to hold that annual dual where Iowa State gets smoked. I think Metcalf meant that "ra-ra Iowa rules" is the Iowa culture and "us against them" is sacrosanct there. I also think he probably was implying that he needed some mental growth and stuff that maybe he wasn't getting there or needed to grow something he was missing. Iowa having Terry Brands as a coach is going to eliminate a lot of growth opportunities for top Iowa grads. I don't think Iowa needs both Brands brothers. They do need some variety.
  6. Thanks for the update. I hope he continues to heal well. I like what he said about enjoying the break from the B1G grind. Hope he’s eating all the food.
  7. Just caught this dual and I loved the Spratley-Surtin match. What scrambling! 125 is going to have a lot of great matches especially in the consolation round. I’m going to have to set aside an extra 3 hours to watch them all !!
  8. I think so too
  9. He’s definitely wrestling tough this year.
  10. imaginary numbers are helpful for things like electrical processes, but they aren't so helpful projecting PSU final placing.
  11. I agree with TylerDurden and Vak that people's perceptions are skewed to ask "what have you done for me lately more than ever." It explains exaggerated feelings with increasing regularity prematurely. My example of a senior becoming conditioned like a Pavlov's dog in just 6 years' time is a testament to the expectant observer's state of mind.
  12. This 71 year old senior I know got his first email-texting cell phone around 2017. He went from expecting to hear from me biweekly over email to expecting me to communicate bidaily. The head coaching jobs of the NFL are good examples of the immediacy demanded.
  13. If Nvidia falls 50% over next 18 months will they can their CEO who has created 1200% growth in 5 years? Answer: unlikely.
  14. Indeed! Him and Camacho both have strong resumes. Trombley last year defeated Jore Volk, Jaret Lane, AA Ventresca x 2, C Camacho x2, Peterson, Surtin. He lost in OT to Ramos and Noto. If Camacho had a 35% chance to AA, Trombley has a 15% chance. Compare that to the Hawkeyes starting Ybarra when Ayala was hurt or the Nittany Lions. Depth rankings at 125: 1) V Tech Flynn, Ventresca 2) NC State Trombley, Camacho 3) Lehigh Stanich, Sheldon 4) Cornell Ungar, Diakhimaholis 5) Ohio State Kilkeary, McCrone
  15. Go for it. That was an L if I’ve ever seen one. And it wasn’t an off night that Killcleary guy killed it.
  16. He looked like he was hanging on for the W from around the 4th minute. Possibly winded ? At the end he made some desperation attack and it looked like his feet wouldn’t move at the pace he was used to expecting them. Maybe that Midlands injury messed him up. I didn’t see that match. I wasn’t impressed with this performance at all.
  17. You thing Brands will be charged with assault and battery tomorrow ? I’d imagine he has a bad attitude after a whipping like this.
  18. I believe he is around 21-7 in his career in Overtime.
  19. One thing’s for sure. Woods is no Nick Lee. Actually two things, Woods is no Sebastian Rivera either.
  20. Yes his top and bottom wrestling is good but not elite. Guys like Dags, Barnett, McKee can always prove a problem for him. I’m sure im missing other riders.
  21. Touche! I think I moreso wanted to emphasize that physique doesn't create punching power. A guy like string bean Erik El Terrible Morales (my favorite fighter of all time) had decent power for his physique. Barrera looked like he never saw a gym but his punches were devastating. Physiques of devastating fighters vary widely. I've definitely seen my share of jacked arm punchers who can't hurt a fly. I recall reading more than a couple interviews/watching videos of fighters especially at lighter weights emphasizing how size in the chest would be a disadvantage to them in the fight game and they didn't do those types of workouts. I'm sure it varies by weight class, genetics and commitment to good technique. If Ferrari is really struggling to punch he's not Mr Fast Twitch. Someone should do a Mr T spoof of Ferrari (like Rocky 3) and call him The Fabulous Twinkie. Since people mentioned both Tyson and Holifield, did you know Holifield used to spar against tires? He would swing a tire and practice head butting the thing at all angles until he never hurt himself. He's the Master Butter.
  22. I thought I read somewhere that chest mass is no bueno for punch speed. As a decent boxing fan I feel many fighters have alleged similar stuff regarding bulk seemingly harming hand speed. I can only attest to my own hand speed being unimpressive when I benched 275 at a body weight of 140 pounds many years back in a boxing training program. I feel like alot of this is genetics and if he's Mr Fast Twitch he should be capable of being fast.
  23. The academic requirements there are insane. One time I was out partying I ran into some wrestlers from the top wrestling private school in the area in that era and we had both had several drinks and they said "I thought Iwas a good student then I came here. It's so hard and I barely met the requirements and it's killing me." I'm not surprised, one year I got a 99 in STATS and received a B+. One semester I did everything possible to get A's and I got 4 A-'s. One year I took the easiest Sociology class, wrote a 16 page essay for the final exam in one hour and got an A-. That school is hard and grade deflates like crazy. One quarter as an experiment I stayed in every Friday night and I got an A in Physics. It's what's required to get an A in a course. That may be the only A I got in a science course there. The experiment was over and I never stayed inside every week on a Friday again.
  24. I would be shocked if Barnett doesn't earn AA this year. He will have several tests in February to prove himself, including Ayala, Ramos and McKee. I think he's like 2-4 against McKee and 1-0 against Ayala. In 2022, Barnett defeated Camacho and Camacho defeated Ayala at NCAA. McKee had been dominating them both but now Ayala has surpassed McKee. Can Ayala surpass Barnett? Big implications if he has done it...
  25. Volk at 125 has wrestled Smith x2, Ayala, Spratley, Figueroa, McCrone, Surtin, Provo, Kaylor, Molton x2 and DeAugustino forfeited to him. Not sure another 125 has that big a resume. 7-4 in those matches. He will be dangerous at NCAAs. Last year he wrecked DeAugustino early in the bracket...
