  1. 159-0 looks pretty safe
  2. Colaiocco / Byrd match was 15-13. Sounds like a wild one, and not just the controversial ending as described on this thread. Any particular highlights or a general description of the action by anyone who viewed it?
  3. agree with minimum to qualify. as for another minimum to be seeded, everyone in the bracket is seeded.
  4. Ugh. I was looking forward to Cardinale vs Courtney at 125. Courtney won 3-2 in NCAA quarterfinal last year.
  5. Shawyer is out, will not place top 8. Worst Peterson get is 6th. Going back to original post then, seems likely the starting spot will belong to Peterson.
  6. the round to determine if he makes top 8
  7. Peterson advances to semis and Shawyer to blood round...
  8. early advantage to Peterson as he is in quarterfinals. Shawyer lost to Baker from GMU in rd of 16.
  9. there's being tough on the mat, but a college grad punching a HS kid hard enough to KO him in a wrestling practice is a douche move.
  10. I had vague recall of a younger Peery that wrestled in the Dapper Dan event. Searched and verified the relationship, but sadly Greg Peery. passed away at a relatively young age in 2017. Sorry, on phone and can’t get the link to work.
  11. not saying it couldn't change, but hasn't Burroughs been quoted as saying he's not interested in coaching a college program? but beyond that, as others have stated very doubtful UCLA adds the program (or technically brings it back from when they dropped in late 70s/early 80s)
  12. What programs do kids seem to progress and digress in? pretty much all of them....
  13. 7 losses in OT? That’s gotta be a record, right?
  14. read that it started at 125
  15. Yes that’s my recall. 12+ point victory = 5 team points, 2 team points each way for a tie in an individual match. And man, some heavy hitters in that dual on both sides.
  16. No doubt. He balanced those great teams with Iowa kids and out of state talent.
  17. Agree. I can think of national champs from NY, NJ, MD, ND, SD, OH, CA, CO, and IL over the Gable era.
  18. Mike Coyle I guess is a tie for best ever from JMU as well, being one of only two AAs for the Dukes. Brian Kurlander being the other. Coyle's coach at JMU, also from Phillipsburg, was pretty good too. Bowyer made blood round twice when he wrestled for the Dukes.
  19. Charlie Heller was also in that bracket, better credentials than Potokar going 4-2-3 at NCAA. Hummel went 2-4-4 losing to Reiss in '80 NCAA final and Reiss was also in the '82 177 bracket. Hummel was also a very tough matchup for Mark Schultz. In '81 he beat Schultz in '81 Big 8 finals, then lost to him in NCAA semi in OT. In '82 he lost to Schultz in Big 8 final in OT, and then again in NCAA semi 2-1.
  20. Every guy Barry Davis beat in NCAA final eventually made a world freestyle final
  21. Not saying the best but for consideration as I have always been a fan of this group of wrestlers - 1989 126 bracket. 4 guys who won an NCAA title at some point - Jim Martin, Kendall Cross, Tom Brands, and Jason Kelber. Tom Brands with 3 titles. Those 4 alone also combined for 14 AA honors (pretty sure anyway). Tom Brands eventual World and Olympic champ, Cross eventual Olympic champ.
  22. Wrestling is 90% mental. The other half is physical.
  23. 1982 177 bracket had Schultz, Banach, Reiss who all had titles prior to that year
