We will have to agree to disagree. No sense in beating this dead horse on the 23 U20 Worlds thread.

That isn't a troll. This was already expected. I maintain that it cements, for me, the fact that he does need a redshirt. There are at least six guys who are going to be able to manhandle him in D1 right now. Three of them exhaust eligibility this year with a potential of the other three also not utilizing their COVID 'free' year. Add in that there are quite a few gents that are simply 'on par' with him right now and the upside is basically 7th if every single thing goes correctly for him this year where the downside could be two and done. That has him potentially beating guys like Slavikouski and Fernandez and Luffman, who I would absolutely favor them at this point. Now, I absolutely believe that Carroll will improve a significant amount over the course of the next calendar year. This shows he isn't quite ready for that 'man man' shit yet. Disclaimer: I am okay if he proves me wrong. 100% okay with that.

I agree. Especially after last year. Looking forward to seeing him be the 133lb starter for tOSU for an entire season. If he can't fix that pacing he may go undefeated in duals to turn around and shit the bed come tourney time.

Bouzakis is a physical dynamo and establishes himself as a physical superior at the beginning of nearly every match. Unfortunately at this level, even if he is the superior it isn't going be to by as much as some local high school tourney here in the states. He did this in each of his three matches today and came in less fresh than his next opponent each time because of this. He had 12 minutes of gruel under his belt before the match even started and 18 by the end of it, where Mohit had ~3 minutes prior? We see it all the time where we burn ourselves out burning out our opponents then gas the next round. It is oftentimes that our opponent is burned by the next round as well...

cringe.gif Poor Carroll... But yeah! He is totally a lock for high AA next season, guys! Doesn't need any form of redshirt AT ALL.
-
Also per Kozak... Yao Ming is wrestling for China. For those not in the know, Masoumi is a giant of a kid at 6'6" as of last year and 20 Y.O.
-
So if Lilledahl wins gold he will have beaten a guy that beat Richards earlier this year, correct - per Kozak ( @Jon_Kozak ). Does that make him our #1 domestically?
-
it was indeed Casey for Mesenbrink.
-
Feldman was the #1 P4P last year wasn't he? He wasn't even close to amounting to an ounce towards the possibility of maybe competing against Masoumi last season.

Is there a personal reason for this? Like blood relation of some sorts? -

Any chance we see Hoffman Grad transfer? -
That is a good one. Much like Latona, he has the length for it.

Greetings All, Figured it would be fun to discuss this. Rather than a 'This is happening' sort of thing make it a 'It would be cool if this happened' sort of thing. So Sasso to 157 and Bastida to 285 are off the table since they are happening. I will lead it off with a few. Some have traction and some do not. Ragusin, UofM - I would like to see him at 141 this year and not take a redshirt. My understanding is it is about 50/50 as of now which direction it will be. Amine, UofM (Also Griffith, UofM by proxy) - I would like to see Amine at 174. I want to see him against Starocci now. I just do. Saldate, MSU - I would like to see him at 165 in an attempt to set himself up at a run in the International style(s). This likely pushes Fish up to 174, which I think he is undersized for, but a drop to 157 is likely out after he wrestled 79 KG this offseason. Gilcher, Indiana - I would like to see him at 165 for the same reason(s) as Saldate. He showed moxie this offseason at 74 KG. I want to see him run it back collegiately before he transfers in to Michigan to wrestle his last season with his brother (another hope). North, Maryland & South, Indiana - I don't care which one does it... but I would prefer South go down to 157 and have him make this match happen. North to 165 seems long-winded and at Indiana Gilcher can swap weights with him. I have to see this. It is a requirement. Lewis, Virginia Tech - I want to see him at 184. This gives us a 'Big 4' up there with PK, Munoz, and Truax as the other three. I just don't see him touching Starocci right now... 174 is his weight... and I want to see Lewis give the Internation style a go after this season, which I don't see him being able to get to 74 KG anymore. Fix, OSU - I would like to see him at 125lbs. A poetic justice sort of thing. I wanted him at 141 before, but he is going 57 KG for OTT so 125 it is. Teske/Ayala, Iowa - I would like them to swap weights. Ayala at 133 and Teske at 125. Ayala has the frame to be successful at 133 and his shoulder injuries make me concerned about him cutting weight. Teske is too small for 133. Parco, ASU - I want to see him at 141. He is not even an average sized 149lber. He is so fast and good... i want to see him at 141 prior to him making a run at 65 KG. Teemer, ASU - Up to 165 to prepare for a 74 KG run. Valencia, ASU - Up to 184 to prepare for a 86 KG run (for Mexico). Wick/Lamer(Legend) - Weight swap. I think it makes sense. Caliendo, Iowa - Up to 184 (bumping Assad to 197), also Swafford to 184 to compete as well. Just a few ideas/wishes.

Buckeyes for 2023/2024
nhs67 replied to MPhillips's topic in Ohio State University's Ohio State Wrestling 2022/2023
I am pretty stoked to see this lineup, even as a Michigander. In a dual with UofM I have Ohio State favored at 149 and 197 with Michigan favored at 125 and 285 and the rest being potential swing matches, depending on the lineup. I am very curious if Geog beats out Hoffman at 197 (guy wrestled under 170lbs at a high school tournament two seasons ago (~18 months)... guy is massive now. Reminds me of Michigan's Anthony Biondo from about 15 years ago. Guy grew rather linear in high school, starting at 103 or 112 and finishing at 152 as a senior then as a frosh at UofM I believe he went 174... my thinking was that it was probably just him not cutting at all... Then I actually saw him in a dual at 197 and the guy grew three feet wider between then and two years prior. It was impressive. I think they had planned on Shumate being the guy at 184 during the recruiting process and all that, but Geog will give him a run if he makes that drop. That said I think him-Hoffman is a thing and we might be surprised by Geog. Sasso at 157 is an absolute title favorite. Over Haines? I say yes even if most people might say no. Fortunately for Michigan, Lewan matches up well with Sasso. Bouzakis at 133 is ready, I think. I know he got handled by another true frosh in Crook at 141 last year... but that wasn't 133. I think 133 is his weight and he is going to show us that. Mendez at 141 or Decatur? Decatur is a lot like Alvarez. I don't know if 141 is the weight for him. Unfortunately for him he has never shown any signs of improvement on bottom so going up to 149 will be difficult to do successfully... even if he can beat D'Emilio. I think Feldman is right there and basically a lock for AA, even if I think it is in the 6-8 range. I am of the mind, with this squad... they need to start whomever is best. They have so much potential and it is Sasso's last season. Save redshirts for potential injuries. Kilkeary Bouzakis Mendez D'Emilio Sasso Hepner/Paddy Kharchla Shumate Geog Feldman GETSOME -
How? I thought a requisite was that they had to compete at Euros?

The same one who just lost at his natural weight of 74 KG?

Also interesting to me is that the 2020 #15 152lber is the favorite over the 2020 and 2021 #1 160lber for the 165lb spot when they were from the same High School and have been training in the same room collegiately. -
