  1. In 1854 Horace Greeley, a New York newspaper editor, gave Josiah B. Grinnell a famous piece of advice. "Go West, young man, and grow up with the country," said Greeley. Grinnell took Greeley's advice, moved west, and later founded Grinnell, Iowa.
  2. to some extent im sure that wrestling enhanced their play in football... but there are many people in the NFL who didn't wrestle . probably some who only played football ... so are you saying that bball is what made another guy great? was it soccer? ballet like lynn swann? no. they can enhance. but these people are elite b/c of something else... not b/c they learned leverage in wrestling. they could have learned leverage playing football. or rugby or maybe they never did and have another way to win the one on one in the trench.
  3. great post. many of your points are good. but i think that elite people are just elite. they are good at whatever they do. they have the drive to excel. i know lots of kids who are obsessed with video games and good at them who can't do anything with their bodies of an athletic nature... and no they aren't overweight couch potatoes its like saying playing multiple sports helped someone reach the NFL. no they are in the nfl b/c they are a freak of nature and were driven to be the best. they did all those other sports as well, b/c they realized they could dominate them as well in high school. I saw derrick henry play in a high school game... didn't know who he was, and wondered why the game was on espn. then i saw this giant. i realized what was going on. henry would have dominated almost any sport he played.
  4. as holtfan so elequently pointed out guys/coaches etc are going to game the rules... change for change doesn't always work
  5. im not holding my breath on burwick... he isn't scoring takedowns either, at least not in that match i mean nebraska got two transfers at 133 and neither is really high level
  6. there are still boring matches in freestyle i watched sidakov in his final at yaryguin (spell) they moved from the center maybe once. I didn't see a single attempt of any kind in the first period. both got a passive in the second there was one shot that got finished... and then they walked around for another few minutes feigning ties and collars... both would have been stalled out in a folkstyle match.
  7. yeah, i think he shook hands once... then left... he thought it was over, didn't know probably that they wanted him back out there.
  8. whats up with amos? allred eats his lunch
  9. oh man i saw the dual thread and then two pages...and i was excited that someone was actually talking about nebraska wrestling... lol
  10. i was going to add this to the dirty wrestler thread
  11. fan 1: man did you see that catch that julio made in the super bowl last night? it was amazing..how the hell he got both feet down... fan 2: i know right, but he went out of bounds and that's a point, so the patriots won in regulation, they didn't have to go to overtime.
  12. i agree that brands isn't going to win. but, tell me now, you think that what star was doing in the 3rd period was cool? even before brands does his stupid mocking? i mean save the ali stuff for when you beat a decent guy
  13. yeah, dont that suck? if its not gonna get called... might as well use it
  14. i hate watching murin this was a good murin match the siebrecht haines match was one of the best matches i thought..
  15. no, it was a much better dual than i expected i figured Iowa would win two matches, 125 and 149, forgot about woods and then thought well, he is from stanford. and he really didn't look that good against barlett, and i dont think bartlett is all that good Iowa won all but one toss up match.. which made it exciting.. yeah you can get a little bored.. but its exciting in the moment b/c you dont know whats going to happen. If PSU had been dominating like i thought, i wouldn't have been excited about the later matches... i would have turned to Wis/NW or OU/ISU which i did a little anyway, but that me and the remote. the sport is great, guys who aren't as good can still compete see star/brands. who wants to see an ass kicking like brooks vs a backup? thats what's boring and DT is saying we need all these extra points... why? high scoring doesn't mean more exciting... we already have sumo... its called the pushout... we can watch that in the offseason. just cause i push a guy out and get a point for MORE POINTs.. doesn't mean its more exciting
  16. i mean yeah.. star has to go to OT if this is the rule
  17. i thought the dual was in carver b/c of all the fan cries for stalling i was told it only happens at carver the same people who booed murin for riding hard and just staying in control on top, were cheering for star and others doing the exact same thing. i mean... yeah perhaps brands was stalling.. but he was holding ground, moving forward.. he just wasn' tshooting much. I have been told a million times that shots dont mean you are doing anything. yet he still got called. starrocci on the other hand was RUNNING backward etc etc for a bout 45 seconds... and no call make no mistake, i knew that it would 3-2 or something of that nature. and that brands had no real shot of winning. .but still, its just funny the hypocrisy maybe starrocci will realize what a fool he looks like trying to belittle other people he beat by one point... but probably not.
  18. as a stud... which i am sure he is.. why would he have had to cut
