I admittedly know very little about how all of this works, but I'd imagine there is something more significant coinciding with that test than just plain ol' over-the-counter DHEA. 4 years is crazy.
I forget the exact interview, but last year after OTT, he really came off arrogant and disrespectful, especially in regards to DT. His lack of humility and the disrespect for David Taylor rubbed many, including myself, the wrong way. When you supplant an aging legend of the sport, have some class and respect for what they accomplished, at least in the public eye.
And I would say that is still a lesser offense than the one mentioned by @BigRedFan.
Yeah, let's listen to what is coming out of Aaron Brooks' camp for what happened..
Last year he popped positive and the issue was later fixed. If he didn't learn how diligent he needs to be about what he puts into his body after that, then I don't feel bad for him. Second, how dumb do you have to be to take something that replenishes your hormones without asking if it's legal first? If he had low-t would he just go take some testosterone boosters because the doc said he was low?
DHEA was likely the mask for whatever he was actually doing. If it wasn't then he is just an absolute moron for taking hormone boosters without checking if they were legal. He's a cheat, he's dumb, or he's a dumb cheat. If he's dumb enough to take two different "meds" in a calendar year that caused failed USADA tests, then he deserves whatever criticism he gets.
I don't know of any legitimate cases of people "accidentally" failing USADA tests. That's just the default excuse. With all of the knowledge given to athletes and with what is at stake with a false test, it would be pretty tough to be that naive.
Ah, how did I not think of him sooner?! The famous Les Anderson of Iowa State managed the feat in 1958, 1959, and 1960.
Who could forget the #2 seed Anderson pulling the 7-5 upset over Michigan's #1 seeded Max Pearson?
Les' dreams of being a three-timer were famously thwarted when he fell to Oklahoma's Stan Abel in 1959.
We all know the story of how Les Anderson moved up from 130 to 137 for his final season where he once again stood atop the podium to finish his college career.
Neither were finalists as freshman. I don't think it's going to be any of the big names, but it's definitely possible I overlooked someone. I've dug pretty deep, but not too deep pre-1960.
Not Hodge, either Brands, Barry Davis, Kolat, Brooks, Dake, Taylor..
But one of the fab five IS Dan Gable.
Edit: No Banach, Carr, or Zalesky, or Guerrero..
I wasn't being facetious. I hadn't checked the other thread about AB on international to see this was the most recent rumor. I was genuinely curious. He would truly be an idiot if he took a medication that alters hormones without checking with a doctor first. @bnwtwg said it more assuredly than I didn't previously. But my initial assumption was that if he is claiming this OTC drug is what he popped for, it was a masking agent for whatever he was really doing.
Are you saying that is what he claimed he took? If so, he's a bigger idiot than I could have thought. It's literally a hormone and weight control pill. Might wanna have doc take a look at that before you take it.
It's more likely that he is blaming this for whatever he was actually on.
Hell, I pay close attention to any over the counter pills/meds that I take. You'd think he'd have a source he could send a picture to just to make sure he was in the clear before putting a new drug into his body. There are very few athletes in history that have "knowingly" taken PEDs.
Amen. You'd think he would have learned after his first scare. He is either 1. dumb, 2. a cheat, 3. both. Give me option 3.
